I've played online game's since 98' starting with EQ beta 4, and I wanted to try and get a message out in the vain hopes that i can expose a common myth. I guess this will sound pretty negative and hurtful to most, so I dont mind if people break it apart, thats a given. Also my grammar and punctuation are poor (at best). I dont claim otherwise.
So, We all have seen, im sure, players devoted to smaller scale games (Lets take DDO as an example, Mud's, Saga of ryzom, ect.) becuase of the "community".
Do not be fooled, because these are the most viscious, hatefull, spitefull, mean-spirited and self-centered players on the interenet. I would rather, personally, hang out on something like B-net all day than be forced to stomach the miasma of the 25-40+ crowd of hateful, middle class caucasian (white) people (I'm caucasian myself, so dont confuse this as racisim, or a topic about it) that inhabit these games. One can at least dis-regard immature players.
but for people who want to enjoy the game, and thats important, or be apart of a team you might be in for a shock. In-fighting, Pseduo-sexual social domination and subserviance and as much darn ego-driven drama as can possibly be squeezed out of everything.
There are of course the good players that we all enjoy hanging around with, everywhere you go in life there are always some good people.
But i would really like to see the curtain drawn away from the crowd of people that I've found prevalent in those games, in the hopes that after reading this people are more able to recognize the people who actually have the worst impact, in my opinion, on MMO communitys and whos voice on Dev/Game forums only seek to further an anti-social agenda, an almost tribal based system that only seems to serve as a virtual outlet for a nazi-like fantasy world.
