What's going to set this game apart from WoW?  I don't play WoW, but this game seems to follow a similar pattern.  I really think they should have made it Warhammer 40000, I've played too much Dawn of War.

hey dawn of War is a great game, cant wait till dark crusade.

as for being diff from wow , i really dont see how they follow the same path beyond races and it being a MMO.

Prty much what draws me in is the world of Warhammer which i much prefer over WoW. This game is also more PVP oriented i mean DAoc was lots of PVP and i personaly liked and i hope WAR does the same.

i mean i can list on alot of stuff just check the site, i mean this doesnt mean its gonna be a hit but can only go off of so much and hope.

Well I mean the fighting is slow-paced and click and wait, just like WoW.  That was all I meant.  If this game gets released soon enough I'll try it.  I'm headed for basic training in July 07.

I think a lot of things will set this apart from WoW.  The focus of the game is on RvR, which will be the main thing.  The focus in WoW seems to be gear.  If you can stomach raiding a dungeon enough times or grinding the same battleground scenarios over and over again you can get the gear that will give you a huge advantage over your opponent.  Then you can use that gear to ummm....run the same battleground scenarios over and over again.  Many I've known in the game have obtained the best gear possible in the game and then found that the game really lacks purpose anymore.  "What do I do now?  I have this killer gear but I don't want to go back to battlegrounds because it's been like having a full-time job trying to get the stuff.  I think I'll just sit around in Orgrimmar and chat.".  A lot of these players have quit or even sold their accounts because the game lacks purpose anymore to them.  With the new expansion for WoW coming out there will be an addition of actual world PvP goals in some zones which will maybe add some new life to the end-game.  That all remains to be seen.

In WAR the focus will be different.  There is a constant fight between the warring factions.  (This is also supposed to be the case in WoW but I have yet to see it aside from instanced, repetetive battles.)  There are multiple battle fronts, goals and capture points that your faction works toward maintaining control of throughout your character's career up to the end-game.  The thing I liked about DAOC (also developed by Mythic) was when I logged my character on I always knew I had something I could do (whereas in WoW I would log on, enter a battleground queue, get tired of waiting after an hour and log off).  There was always a battle somewhere I could take part in.  WAR has promise of offering the same thing and I think that's what excites me the most about it.

That being said, I don't know what you want in an MMO.  I don't know if you want a PvE focus or a PvP focus.  I don't know if you're wanting something you can play 10 hours a day or just a few hours a week.  What I like isn't going to be what everyone likes.  But I think judging from everything I've seen/read, and from my experience with playing WoW, this game is going to go completely in another direction.  And hopefully that direction will be more to my liking.

If you want a better answer from someone more knowledgeable than myself on the subject, there seem to be endless "WAR vs WoW" threads on most any gaming forum you find.  Good luck to ya.

    - lateral advancement instead of vertical

    - focus on skills instead than levels

    - PvP as the main focus of the game

    - World PvP in which you can conquer keeps, Scenarios directly linked to the world where success in missions can change the world around

    - PvP Quests

    - Public Quests

    - Customization options. you get visual addition to your character as reward for pvp that you can then position on your armor. Things like medals, gems and skulls. depend on race

    - a Tactic and Morale systems complement the usual skill bars system. Tactics are like self buffs that you gain as you progress, but you have limited slots to place them into. Morale are big bad abilities that you can unleash only when you have fought (and won) enough.

    - Mounted Combat

    - Taunt works in PvP

    - Warhammer world.

This is just from the top of my head.
By the way, you serious when you say WoW combat is "slow"? What the heck? what game you compare it to? Cause to me it seems WoW has a quite fast paced combat and is anything BUT just click auto attack and wait (unless you want to die multiple times that is)

Compare it to DDO. DDOs combat is crazy fast compared to WoW

Really?  Mounted combat and taunt works in PvP?  Where did you hear this, as they are the only things you listed I had not heard of regarding WAR.

Why's it need to differentiate itself from WoW? It's a different IP, different devs, tailored to a different crowd?

Sure, it looks a little like WoW but so does LoTR. They're in the same cliched genre, that'll happen.

It's Warhammer. It's made by experienced Devs. Look at the info, look at the fluff and decide if you are interested in the game or not. Skrew Warcraft...

Edit: Also why's every game got to have gimmicky combate to be origional anymore? Final Fantasies had the same 'Attack/Speical/Magic/Summon/Run' set-up for years and they weren't clones of each other? Why? Different Stories, Characters, and Abiltity Systems! And what sets WoW and WAR apart!? Different settings, stories, characters(kinda, but they aren't important in MMOs), ability systems, AND THEAMS! Ha! Take that...

I see this "It looks like WoW" argument coming up alot...and i just don't understand the problem.

Ok...So it looks Like WoW, Is that necessarily a bad thing?  WoW for the most part looks realy good. Unless you realy hate the Way WoW looks, "Gawd i hated staring down the Rear end of a Cartoon Cow for nearly 200 played days", It shouldn't realy be a problem.

"It looks like a Cartoon the same way WoW does, so they must play the Same"...This Would be a Valid complaint, if it were going to be true. But the Devs's, Paul, and thier website have stated dozens of times that; Warhammer is going to be a RvR game, Warhammer is going to have lateral advancment(with levels), Everyone is a Combat Class in Warhammer...and so on. All of which should clearly set it different from WoW even though it does "look" similar.

Let me Put it this Way...In WoW you get a Sheep in Wolves's clothing, in Warhammer you get a Wolf in Sheep's clothing!

To some extent.  Dwarfs have been said to have "only non-combat mounts", implying that others have combat mounts (per class: Squig Riders, Knights, and the like seem likely).

Taunts in WAR are different than just "grab aggro".  A taunt acts like a debuff, causing the target to cause less damage against your side.  Ideally, this will have a PvE aggro component, but it has the primary effect of forcing enemy players to attack you, without taking actual control of their character.

DDO has a twitch combat system, no wonder is faster, but i was speaking of traditional RPG, semi-turn based combat.

well, look up morskittar post for the mounted combat.

For the taunt, it doesn't work like in PvE of course, but we had experiences of people playing the Alpha build saying, for example, that a Ironbreaker will get buffed up if you do not attack him. The most damage you do to his allies, to more strong he becomes so that ignoring the tank became a big mistake.

Different tank classes will uses different methods, but all in the same vein: ignore the tank= get some penalties and/or the tank become an unstoppable force of nature.

DoW was a great game and I would really love them to make a warhammer 40,000 based mmo, but warhammer fantasy based mmo is great in all of itself, what can be better than this? (other than a warhammer 40,000 game)
