Whats your favortie tv show that has ended or was cancelled

  • My two favorite shows of all time debuted the same season and were cancelled at the same time, so for a few months I was having a good time.

The first was Vengeance Unlimited. It starred Michael Madsen as a mysterious and creepy (it's Michael Madsen!) ex-CIA agent who roams around and offers to help good people get revenge in less than legal ways. He asks for either a million dollars, or a favor to be fulfilled later, no questions asked. The money goes to fund his efforts, and the favors let him call in people from various backgrounds to help other people.

Madsen was not a nice guy, and the brutality of some of the episodes really gave me a smile. In one episode he gets a couple of homophobes who beat a gay man to death thrown in prison, and the last scene has the two in the shower as 'It's Raining Men' begins playing and a horde of convicts walks in. Another had him abduct a third-world dictator who had come to the U.S. for asylum, and delivering him to his victim's families. They fly off in a plane, where they return the dictator to his home country...from 12,000 feet in the air.

The other show was Brimstone. The premise was that a group of damned souls in hell orchestrated an escape, and the Devil (played by John Glover, by far the creepiest Devil I have ever seen) releases a recently damned soul to hunt them down. The Devil's enforcer is a cop who died only a few years ago, after having killed the man who raped his wife (which got him into hell, nice moral ambiguity). The eyes being the window to the soul, a damned soul can only be returned to hell by destroying the eyes of its physical form. Hence, the cop can and does leap out of ten story windows to make getaways, and doesn't worry so much about bullets (save his eyes, he follows the same rules). He has tatoos over his body representing each of the 113 escaped souls, and every time he sends one back it disappears. If he gets them all he gets a second chance at life, if he fails he goes back to hell for eternity.

The dialogue between the Devil and the cop is incredible and really made a good show great. It was a very gritty show, and the little details were entertaining. The main character would wear lots of warm and was always cold in 100 degree weather, that sort of thing. Each damned soul picked up part of hell's power the longer it was trapped there, so the newly arrived cop is frequently outmatched in the creepy power department, but he starts to demonstrate a few disturbing things as the series goes on.

Both cancelled at the same time, very sad. I think they'd do better if they had been released on HBO or something, gritty and wicked doesn't do so well on the networks.

Honorable mention to Briscoe County Jr. and Reboot (it's a cartoon, so what?).

    Firefly!

Hmm, Does SG1 count? It's canceled, just not finished yet.

I got into Babylon Five (The DVDs, since I hadn't heard about it when it was airing), I'm on Season two, pretty good so far.

Yeah, I know thats why I said re-runs because thats all they show. And they show them from 1am to about 3am in the morning, and sorry but Im a healthy teenager and go to bed at reasonable hours not ungodly hours like getting 1 hour of sleep and then going to school the next day and complaining about how tired you are. But if they had kept Mulder the show might have gone on but when dogget came in and Mulder was kind of there and kind of not the rating went up and down and then when the next person came in and mulder dissapeared( chris carter wasnt paying him enough money) in plumeted and they had to end it but it was a great show.

You all have made me remember some good ones.  I used to watch angel all the time but it go soooo lame towards the end.

For me I would say Seinfield.

    Enterprise...

And, Stargate SG-1.  Final series episodes air in March '07, and dammit, we were left with a hell of a season-ending hanger.

At least I still have Stargate: Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica.
