Pre-CU rocked, CU killed my doc buffs and made me consider switching professions, the NGE killed the other professions I would have picked as a replacement.
Pre-CU SWG was THE BEST game EVER of ANY KIND I have ever played. Coming from a 37 years old true gamer (and coming from my 8 RL friends too), I think this says something about it. They had the real gem, somewhat unfinished, true, but still the gem, and they threw it away. I am sure they would have now even more players than they had before CU. WoW came and took some players, still, they would come back if they had a game to come back to, cause WoW does not have something pre-cu SWG had, that something which kept you coming back... Ok, back to the topic: Pre-CU SWG: 9 (you could be anything you want back then) CU SWG: 7 (effort in balancing professions was evident, but also effort to copy WoW was evident, too) NGE: 2 (unbelievably bad, laughable attempt to simplify a game which needed no simplifying)
you check what place SWG is in 88th place on the mmorpg site... i rate it 1... and the SOE/LA wont let this happen much longer... 88th place just sucks.. i think we may see a new revamp or something soon

I am discussing launch state of the product versus launch state of the NGE. Not what they got it patched too in 2 years. If you want to compare that way you need to wait until they have time to finish this version of the product to compare properly.
I started playing May 1, 2004. The game was nearly a year old. The last time I played was around September 7, 2006 (the 3rd end to my accounts since NGE began). The NGE was nearly a year old (lacking by 2 months compared to 1 month? unless a LOT happened the month before I began the comparisons are fairly close). Given the choice between playing the game forever as it was in May of 2004 or playing it forever as it was in September of 2006, I'd choose May 2004. I was one of those that didn't like TEF but it was the main issue I had during that time. I don't care if I'm considered "carebear," if people want to PvP they will go overt and hang around places that are known for PvPing. If I wanted a game where everyone was open to pvp, I would choose that type of game. This is Star Wars which is about the fight between rebs and imps, people should be able to kill npcs of the opposing faction without getting involved in pvp especially pvp that involves someone with a 5k HAM in a time when 5k HAMs didn't really exist (some kind of exploit, on his part or the part of the doc he used?) and an elite profession mastered camping out at noob missions, hiding in buildings so one could not see the blue dot, and 1 shot killing someone that is still working through starting profession skills. PvP zones don't bother me (Restuss as it is now although I think they could have chosen a place that didn't contain one of the planets starports or battlegrounds as I think they existed in the game before I joined). The way jedi was set up, I don't have a problem with it being a permanent pvp profession. But I have digressed and addressed multiple postings from different people.
The thing is, none of the bugs that existed when I started playing were "game breakers." I don't know about other vets but it's not that I view pre-cu through rose colored glasses that say it was free of problems. I view it through the eyes of someone who has developed certain expectations of MMOs due to my pre-cu experience and have not found another game that meets those expectations. It's not just about what pre-cu had but what it had the potential to become....then SOE went and threw it all away for a crap piece of game with only shadows of the potential it once had.

My thoughts exactly. I grinded MBH through all the broken mark spawns, and endured countless rubberbanding issues, amoung many other things. None of them ruined my gaming experience. Annoying at times, but not a gamebreaker. I logged in everyday for at least 2-3 hours a day for a year straight. And played alomost non stop my nearly 3 years in game with only one six week break. No other game since has come close to capturing my intrest like that.
Screwing over the existing playerbase and all their efforts for the sake of a (imaginary) new player base is a move way beyond foolish. So is pseudo-FPS. So are talents..... er, expertise - if I wanted to be playing WoW, I would. I want something different. Something, oh I dunno, Star Warsy and iconic, with 32 profs, populated servers, etc.
CU: 6
Generally poor fix for a game that wasn't terminally broken. CURB would probably have been a better fix.
Original: 7.5
Best version, but it wasn't error-free by a long shot. Buggy, buggy, buggy in all incarnations.

Je mettrai l'amour sur dos de moi.
As it is now with the NGE, I give it a 2 out of 10.
The CU ticked me off alot I would rate it a 5 out of 10. There was still alot of fun to be had.
The Pre-CU days were unequaled by any other game I have experienced, 8.5 out of 10.
