ID JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT FF11 WAS A WASTE OF MY F***ING MONEY, envirmoents are all soo similar, gameplay is boring, interface suxs, basically its a ff rip off of eq with better graphics and shitty gameplay. Enjoy playing it beacuse it definetly isnt worth the cost

I bought it about a month ago and I'm cancelling before the monthly charge kicks in. It's not that bad of a game, really... I just got bored of it in a hurry. I was mostly frustrated by the repetition and the fact that everything in the game looks the same. From characters to environments to monsters, they just recycle the same graphics over and over. Also, for a game based on Final Fantasy, they sure used a lot of boring colors in this one. Anyway, I'd still recommend people give it a try for themselves. Its just not my cup of tea.
I also cancled before my first month. the game was kinda cool up till th epoint you get to forced grouping. I like to play for an hour here and there and this game was not for that.
Not the games fault and nothing real bad about it, but not really a casual gamers game.

The reasons this game is good (for me).
1. It's a FF game online. A damn good one. I have stressed the obvious point that games that aren't the second coming of Jesus can still be fun. I imagine you all probably have higher standards than me or something. You ignore that this game has most of the important parts of an mmorpg. It doesn't do them the best but it still has them. Because everyone either hates this game or loves it(I've found barely ANY people who were mid-way in their opinion.) I can't decide based on anyones view but my own. So i'm getting this when it comes out on ps2.
2. I have alot of friends who are getting the PS2 HDD and get FFXI free with it anyway.
3. It's Final Fantasy!!!
So whatever.

FFXI was a good game and I played for a few months, but I ended up cancelling for 2 main reasons: The first is, the quests just got too time consuming, I mean I know your not forced to do quests, but its part of the game. I couldn't take having to run from one side of the world to the other constantly. I played EQ for a few years and though i must admitt I never got my epic (highest chracter lvl was only a 50 cleric) I didn't think EQ quests were quite as time consuming. At least in EQ there were wizards and then PoP came out so cross world trips didn't take so long.
The second reason I left was fustration. I just couldn't take the terrible group luck, Now I didn't get that high as far as LvLs go (29 war), but that's because I had such terrible group luck it was unbearable! When I quit I was half way done with the Kazham quest key, so I didn't have access to kazham. I would log on in Bastilia (sp on that) Downs and kill easys for like 3 hours then log off because I got sick of such crappy exp. Then I would log on a few hours later and have the same trouble. Two of my friends seemed to have the same group luck as me so we all decided to quit.
I do admitt FFXI is one of the neatest MMORPGs I've played though. I enjoined how the developers actually did things for holidays ( like decorating the towns around X-mass). I liked the fact that there were monthly updates, which made me feel like my money was going to goos use. So I would recomend the game to anyone who as an extreme amount of patients, if not I'd say go to AO or something to that extent (That's atcually what my friends and I switched back to). TTyL TTFN!

I bought the game when it first came out...played it then quit
Then I decided to give it another shot....my problem was I was playing a profession i didnt enjoy. Now, Im loving it and having a blast. Im glad I came back

I am pretty much middle of the road on this game. Keep in mind the only FF game I liked other then this was FFIX. I played FFXI from release until about mid January. There were alot of things they did really really well with this game.
*BCNM encounters were lots of fun!
*the Kingdom system of controlling territories and expidition forces
*The Auction house
*Weapon skill chains and magic bursts
*Multiple modes of fun transportation
*Cutscenes in quests and missons
*Great story behind the quests and missions
*A great selection of classes far different from many mmorpgs
Then there are some very poor aspects (in my opinion of course)
*Absolutely horrible and tiny selection of monsters and monster models to add some excitment to leveling and exploring (by far the worst aspect of the game imo and the reason I quit)
*Mixed servers Japanese/NA (this had some good points, there are many great japanese players who are very friendly, but for many people it added to the difficulty of getting and enjoying a group)
*The mixed class system and specifically the advanced class system (Once again an idea that was excellent in that it allowed you to try many different jobs and was very innovative. The main issue I had with it was that it tended to make it very difficult to play the game with friends. It was very common to play with a group of friends and make new ones on your way to level 30 then half or more of them start over as level 1s of an advance job and then you can no longer group with them.
*Poor controls on the PC (You get used to this fairly quickly though, something I wish they would have done a bit more with but it becomes something you can live with)
I tend to recommend people give it a try as the same things that bothred me may not be an issue to them and the game overall is very well designed. Sometimes I just shoo people off to Lineage 2 which am currently enjoying a great deal.

If its true that when you drop a cat it lands on its feet or if you drop toast it lands butter-side down... what happens if you strap toast to a cats back and drop it?

is it REALLY final fantasy? It has moogles and airships, but what in the game itself actually differentiates it from other mmorpgs? like i said, it isnt a horrible game... i just got bored with it.
Its an anime style game, but other than that I cant think of anything that differentiates it from other games, at least not anything good, so Ill let someone else tell you.

I liked FF11 but i think your right...it was pretty repetitive. But i really cant talk i suppose i didn't give it a chance when i played it.

Recent studies have shown that some freakishly addictive mmorpgs can infect the player with a parasite after extended play.(Damned EQOA) The parasite is transmitted by osmosis from the screen to the host's brain. When the victim attempts to play a more softcore mmorpg (like FFXI), the parasite sends a surge to what scientists are calling the "NWLIPB" chromosome; or Nerd Who Lives In Parents Basement chromosome. This causes the host to shun, even hate, perfectly good (but not so immersive) MMORPGs.
The nice thing about FFXI is that it appeals to soft and hard-core players.

im hardly a hard-core player. most online gaming ive done in the past is limited to Madden and 3d shooters. I bought FFXI on a whim, and i doubt ill be playing any other mmorpgs until WoW comes out.
Firstly, if someone likes a game or not depends on if they did stupid things in the game. if u go out and make a crappy character and crappy job decisions, its your own fault not the games. secondly, if u dont ask other players about things such ass monsters and lvling your not going to no anything until u make mistakes.
"everyone makes mistakes, but the people who learm from them profit". thirdly, when playing a new game read the review about it first then u should have an idea if u like it or not.......
If u want to buy anarchy online (one of the best mmorpg's ever) goto AO for only 4.99usd FREAKIN CHEAP!!!!!

no... it depends on if it's a good game or not. also, in FFXI the game experience is pretty much the same for everyone because you cant customize stats and you can freely switch between classes. You can't make a character with "crappy stats." I didnt like the game. I'm assuming you did, because you were so quick to tear me down with your three-pronged "THE GAME IS GOOD YOU SHOULD KNOW ITS GOOD BEFORE PLAYING IT AND IM TIRED TIME FOR NAP" attack. bah... too much work
^^ *deep voice* yeah!

*A distinct twinge can be seen as Ramadin preaches anti FFXI; you can see one of his eyes dilate...*

I bought the game the first day it was available in the US,and I brought it back on the second day.
My reason while major to me may not be to someone else.I could not stand sharing servers with the Japanese. My reasons for playing games that are MMORPG are ...
1.Competition - I like having the best equip first or getting the newest skills before others.
2.Exploration - I enjoy finding new routes, towns and NPCs before others.
3.Communication - I want to be able to meet intersting Players and understand them well.
There were already a plethora of Maxed level players only a few hours into the game and that blew it for me right there.
Although I thought that having themed events was a stroke of genuis and would play this game on the console if they gave those players thier own servers.
Just my thoughts so dont go get ting your knockers in a bunch.

you make a good point except that you dont. im not part of any cause. i bought the game thinking it would be good... it wasn't. also, your average elemtary schooler is interested in many many things, but i dont expect buttsex is one of them. maybe you had a different childhood than the rest of us...
