Those are horrbile choices, from what I've read though, prolly FFXI.

If its true that when you drop a cat it lands on its feet or if you drop toast it lands butter-side down... what happens if you strap toast to a cats back and drop it?

See that column to the left?  Under "Released Games" is a list of the most popular ones.

I've played Phantasy Star Online (Xbox Live) and it was alot of fun, although it didn't have that MMORPG feel to it, it was more like a hach-n-slash game, but fun with a good group of people.  Tons of items to get and monsters to kill.  Graphics were so-so.  It was easy and fun.  I played for a few months and enjoyed it.

FFXI is great.  I have been playing for only a few weeks but am addicted.  It offers so much and the great features outweigh the downfalls, in my opinion.  Some Downfalls:

Character customization - there isn't a very wide vairety of character models and they are anime, which I had to get used to, but overall, they look nice.  I do notice player characters looking a bit different, especially in the clothes and armor they wear, but not a varied as I would like.

Creature Mobs - There are many of the same creatures, some look pretty silly, but you'll do so much hunting that even if there were 1,000s of monsters, they would get old sooner or later.

Control scheme - Hard to get used to, not very customizable (at least I haven't re-configured them, but it was ok after I got used to the controls).

Tedium - There is definitely a level treadmill, and the game gets difficult quick!  You'll have to group.  (But alot of fun)

    Some great features:

Great Graphics - The world and atmosphere of the gameworld is great

Quests and Missions - There are plenty of them, they are interesting and offer alot of background story and good rewards.  (I love the cut-scenes!)

Character Jobs - I like the class system, you really have alot of freedom and can do what you want

Crafting and Auction House - Very nice feature and it works great.  Crafting takes some work, but it pays off, I think.

Goals/objectives - This is something I think is important.  There is always something I am striving to accomplish in FFXI.  Right now I am trying to get to lvl 15 so I can get my next weapon skill (Sneak attack!)  Then I want to complete some missions for my nation and gain Rank.  I want to do the quests that make some sub-jobs available, I want to ride on a big chicken!, and I want to explore more of the world, etc.  The game always has you moving towards one goal or another, and they are varied and there is so much to do.

Community - Yes there are Japanese speaking players, but it hasn't been a problem to me.  There are tons of players on all the time, it makes the gameworld feel exciting and alive.

Content - I have pretty much expressed how I think there is so much in the game to explore and do.

I think FFXI is the best game on this list, but I have not played Ragnarock.  (Some people in my Linkshell played it, though, and they liked it, but they moved to FFXI).
