But, back to the post....What I was asking is why would Wepps hate Koster, and it wouldnt be because Freeman birthed the bastard child NGE.  Wepps apparently like the NGE.  So what caused his intense hatred of Koster?  Hes been playing since the beginning, so you would assume that there is something he like about the original game too...i guess....anyway I know it doesnt matter, it strikes me as odd.../cheers

A more serious answer would be that Wepps probably played UO before the Trammel split and got PKed.  I have noticed that the folks who have an irrational hatred of Mr. Koster are disgruntled UO vets who were mad that they got PKed.  If you read the UO newsgroup from the pre-Trammel days, you will find several folks just like Wepps.

Ahh... that makes more sense now.  See SWG was my first mmo, but i have heard stories since and understand sorta what you mean lol....   Basically, he was a pussy that got his ass handed to him on a regular basis and now blames the game designer for his immasculation....  Right?

Well, back in the pre Trammel days of UO, Mr. Koster had the same relationship with the folks who wanted a PK on/off switch that the SWG devs have with the majority of the SWG playerbase.  The only difference is that Mr. Koster always presented his point of view without intending to antagonize the folks he was disagreeing with.  He would actually explain, in detail, why he believed what he believed.

I would really recomend that anyone who enjoys reading Mr. Koster's website and his thoughts on game design in general should go to Google Groups and do a search for "Designer Dragon" in the newsgroup "rec.games.computer.ultima.online " (not sure why that turned green).  He was very open and honest about why UO was made the way it was.  You'll have to sift through a ton of posts about him to find the ones by him.  I believe he posted under his real name and as "Designer Dragon".

THey do say third time's a charm...

True story!  The third startup I formed or helped form was/is the most successful.  My second one was a horrible disaster.  Hey, so was Raph's!!!

Thanks.  That was back in 1998, and I've had some good and some not so good since.  None half as bad.

You got the benefits thing right, they were only "decent".  But all this guy cared about was a salary and a dedicated Internet connection.  He was the beginning of the end for that company too.  I could write a horror story or a comedy about my time helping build that disaster.

We even had a guy that looked pretty much like Helios that I hired anyhow.    Turns out he was a very good employee.

    I'm off topic...I'll stop here.

one thing to add to ripple effect
I tried going back to my old stand by favorite all time mmorpg, i lasted  30 minutes in the free trial.
They changed things so much and updated the galore out of it from including quest journals, the circle thingis over the npcs for quests, and all the mobs around the favorite familar areas were gone .
I felt glad i didn't pay for it . I was sadden by the unfamilar even though it was very familar to me for a long time.

So not every upgrade is great good or even wanted. Such is the case here.

Can we ever go home again to any of our old stand bys?

Thats  good reading....    Doesnt Wepps fit in the group that couldnt handle the original UO?   That was always my assumption, or am i reading things wrong?
