I don't know what to play...

Really want to get back into MMORPGs but don't know what to play...  I know someone else just made a post like this but I seriously don't know what game to play.

I've played FFXI, WOW, Lineage 2, EQ2, SW: galaxies,  and a whole bunch of crappy free MMOs.

Just got fed up with WOW, and the other games either had way too much grinding involved or I didn't like the engine.

The only game I've seen that I might enjoy is LOTRO....and I don't feel like trying to fulfill my MMO needs by browsing this forum until the game comes out next spring.

so what's hot out there in the MMO world other than WOW and Guildwars?

hmm. well, im kinda in the same predicimant, im waiting for StarTrek Online. Im ganna be playing Archlord i guess until SarTrekO comes out. its really hard what with alot of MMORPGS coming forth. alot of games based of of stuff that already has publicity such as, Warhammer, Spellborn. Vanguard looks awsome too, o yea, theres also the Marvel MMO on its way...*shrug* i dont think anyone knows what they truley want anymore.

IMO, there are a few potentials out there, claiming to be the 3rd generation of MMORPGs.  I'm currently following Vanguard and Darkfall.  They are both very different from eachother as far as gameplay but both equally enticing.  WAR has a lot of people excited, however, I see it as a better WoW and WoW just wasn't my thing.  AoC has been getting some attention as well.  I do not place much hope in LOTRO, I think it will be pretty goofy actually.  Star Trek has potential for those trekies who like the Sci-fi MMOs, I prefer fantasy.

First you need to determine what you like as far as the "key" issues such as PvP, Level vs. skill buidling, raids, and instances.  Once you know where you fall in these issues it will be better to find a game that suits you.  It's kinda like politics on figuring where you stand on issues because everyone is always going to debate them even though it is pure opinion.

As far as free MMOs they suck and I refuse to waste anytime playing them.

yea, i think LOTRO will be a joke. dont know why so many peole are putting faith into it. I think now that alot more in depth, non-cartoony MMORPGS are comig up, WoW is ganna bomb. but then again...they ARE blizzard. but now blizzard is ganna finally have competition with the more known companies. until now, blizzard is really the only very very well known company to throw out an RPG sense Sony popped out EverQuest. we'll see what happens *shrug*. to bad they cant all combine into one MMO

Thx for the response.  I was going to elaborate last night on what I look for in an MMO but I decided that I'd be asking for too much I guess.

OK, anyways here's my top 4 interests

    1.Medieval world (swords and dragons...)

2.Not too much mind numbing grinding (EQ2 for example )

3.Intriguing quests (where all quests aren't based on kill 10 of these or collect 15 of those)

    4.Graphics

Oh and btw, a Diablo 2 MMO would be perfect for me

I know this is asking for a lot but there's got to be something out there that fits this description.

From what you've specified I think Guild Wars sounds like a game you should try.
  • Joshua69Joshua69 Member UncommonPosts: 953
ya know, i dont understand why Guildwars is so popular if people keep complaining that its getting boring, same with WoW lol...never played guildwars myself, never really wanted to based on the info that other people gave me about...just dont understand, sure its free...but...thats probably it thow isnt it? lol

Yeah, Guild wars runs out of things to keep 75% of people playing. Becvause once your 20 and got all your armor its kinda useless to keep playing unless you have a guild hall or something like that. I think you should try Silkroad online if your looking for a new Online game to play.

For more information see Silkroad Online Homepage

If you want to play any MMORPG then do what i do.  Go through the game list of the ones that are out and scroll though them, pretty much pick any at random, look it over, start playing it and see if you like it.  If you don't like it start all over again

that could get kind of expensive though

some friends of mine are trying to talk me into playing GW with them...but I'm skeptical.

Bought Elder Scrolls Oblivion...this should keep me busy for awhile.

dito, i also don't feel specially attracted by any mmorpg, i was thinking to try dungeons and dragons online or lord of the rings online later, when it is released, but i don't really know... they all have the same looking big monotoniuos world, look quite boring moving around image
