Can anyone point me to a simplified guide for starting newbies? I have read through he playguide, but I really want something from a vetran that talks about skills, how to make money, what to do first, ect....

Thanks!

On the forums you can find alot of that information. The skills section has a few guides that explain about skills. Evemon is a good program to get. It has a nice planning feature that helps you plan to certain ships and such. It will also suggest learning skills to spead up the process. you can find it at evemon.battleclinic.com.

As for making money that really depends on what you want to do. And if you hit up the appropriate section of the forums you'll get a million and one opinions on the "best" way to earn it.

As for what to do first I suggest dabbling in a little of everything, do some mission running, mining, a little pvp in low sec(use a cheap ship that you could care less about using). Once you get a idea of what you like/want to do go look for a corp that fits you. They should be able to help you out with a little more real time assistance.

I made a whole thread in response to that sentence.

    To the OP:
There really is no "Simplified" guide to EVE. The game is so emensly complex, people who have been playing since before launch still say they learn a little bit each day.

The game is a sandbox, so whatever you want to do to make money is up to you. Mining is a good way to make money, but if you don't like to mine then I would suggest not worrying about putting any time into your mining skills because Ratting (killing NPCs) is a good way to make money too, once you figure out how to stay alive in low sec space. (you can be killed by other players in Low Sec Space)

But yeah, just reserch the game a bit and try to find something that interests you and gear towards that. Each race has their own special things that they are more apt to doing (I'm talking about ships here, you can fly any race's ships but it's easier if you start out with a race that has the ships you like)

Don't worry about the skill suggestions from EVEmon. It only suggests a learning skill if training it in addition to what you were planning is quicker that just training the skills on the plan alone. It works great as long as you only set it to learn to the next setup you want not 2-3 years down the road.

Well, it is impossible to make a simplified general guide, like Snake said, but you can have specific guides to specific sections of the game, like the intracacies of Pirating, the guide to being an effective miner is ont the EVE forums. Stuff like that can be simplified guides. But the player guide is a very helpful tool, helped me get onto my feet in EVE.

I am trying the 14day trial.. and im just not seeing the point.... I guess its kinda hard to play as a spaceship  for me atleast. And the fact that i cant control shooting or flying. Im still trying to get into it... But its turning out to be another guild wars... which I tried REALLY hard to like but it was pathetic. And i really really tired.

    My recommendation to new players:
Figure out what you want to be and get tunnel vision.  If you want to PVP then get EVEMon and figure out what skills and ships you'll need for it (The forums will help there).  If you want to mine then get EVEMon and figure out what skills and ships you'll need for it.

    Etc:
Then:  Stick to your plan like glue unless you find out about or learn about other skills taht will enhance your plan.

Once you reach your GOAL then start broadening your horizons.

Also: As you train up I highly recommend picking up the learning skills along the way.  Work them in during 'overnight' training sessions or "I'm at work" training sessions.  Train the quick stuff (there will be a LOT of that at first) during your playtime and train your learning skills while you're logged out of the game.  This will allow you to maximize your learning skills early on.  EVEMon will also make some suggestions along the way.

Not saying EVEMon is the end-all-be-all but if you research and figure out what you want to do, EVEMon will help you get there in the most time-efficient manner possible.  Which is very helpful.  I do, however, recommend getting the Tier 1 learning skills to 5 before you get too deep in your training.  They DRASTICALLY cut down your training times later on.  And eventually you'll want the tier 2's to around 3 or 4 as well.

Like many befor state there is no just one simplified guide. But surely do the player guide, the instroduction to the game. It helps you on your first steps and helps you understand the game. I played that through and thats several years ago now. And then on the way you will find out for yourself what you ike and what not. For training I stronlgy sugjest to get your training skills (those that you need for your path at least) to good lvl. Short training time skills like mentioned befor train during your online time. the long ones while you are offline. For as the training skills will shorten your training time for a good amount. You'll benefit ni the long run this way.

And try to do some missions, it helps you to get around the space a little on the way you might find some nice mining grounds. Stay in save teritory at the beginnnig or join a mining party wiht skilled players. The eve Communitiy is a good one.

On your trial days try to explore the space, the game. And if you wanna keep playing then you can focus on what path you wanna go.

If you just wanna play for 14 days don't waste to much time on figuring out what skills to learn for the long run. Just learn those that you need for what you wanna do. for mining surely get the mining skill etc.

    Have fun playing
