I believe the Devs are looking towards the SWG player cities. Anyone else read anything about this? Does anyone know if this is true, would there be a possiblity to re-creat Gfay? I wouldn't mind a home with a view image

I'm a fan of EQ, EQ2, and SWG (as well as other MMORPGs).

I don't see EQ2 being able right now to have the same Player City game mechanic that SWG has.

EQ2 is looking at having Player Guild halls (which SWG does have.) But a full fledge city that players can build?

SWG's total playable landspace is over 8 times the size of the playable land space of the entire game of EQ. It remains to be seen what the total playable landspace of EQ2 will be. But I seriously doubt EQ2 (which is on 1 planet/world vs SWG which is 8 planets/worlds) will even have the space and room for many player cities.

Plus SWG, being a Skill Based game, allows every player to be able to build buildings, factories, mines, shops, stores, etc..... and still be able to effectivly engage in different types of combat, as well as 30+ other professions, including being able to heal theirselves, as well as perform surgery.

EQ2 so far seems to be leaning towards being a Level Based game. What player is going to want to build buildings and be stuck being able to do only that job?

Hmmm...I don't think player cities would go with the EQ2 world very well.  I had not heard this before, but if xplororor is right then the space available could be a major problem in EQ2.  The game would be wrecked if every 10 feet there was a "player city".  I liked the idea in SWG but I don't think it should be implemented in EQ2.

I would find it interesting if they lack place and they do like the Netherland and Singapore to expend housing at a later point.

I dont see it happening althought, but taking space on oceans(and expending them if necessary to keep the feeling they are big) is a very easy solution without harming the rest of the game.  Of course having a city bigger then West Karana would be hellish in itself!  But only folks tradeskilling would be there most likely, so it is NP with me.  It is not like adding space on an ocean require a lot of work. :)

Me cassa su cassa basically means what's mine is yours. Typically said when you're a welcomed guest to someone's home. It really doesn't relate to what I originally posted, but I thought it sounded good. image

I hope this is just a bad rumor, I personaly hate the idea of player created cities and think they could be the downfall of the MMORPG industry. It just seems like the easy way out and if you don't know what I mean I'll explain...

Q:What can we do to keep the players occupied so we won't hafta make alot of game content?

A:Well we could always give them player created cities and call it game content, meanwhile they can build thier own cities, we can make it take a LONG time so they we will keep getting thier suscriptions.

Q: Ya, but what will they do after their city is done?

A: they will invent ways to have fun, simulate wars on eathother because peace is fun for only so long, then they will need to rebuild thier towns.

Q: ok sounds real good, but what about the Adventure part, where does this come into play?

A:Easy now young padawan, Excitement.....Adventure.....a jedi craves not these things.

Q: ah ok your so smart master, but umm what about the people who DO crave those things?

A:Screw them, this is a NICHE game, let them go play EQ if they want that crap.

Pure Comedy! I love it! Bravo!!! BRAVO!!!!

But, Players can Buy houses in EQ2 Right? Which will mean there there will be Player towns/cities.

SWG, I had the most pimpin pad. Medium house, fully packed with junk you couldn't use. But it looked like a pad Hue Hefner would live in. all i needed were ladies, and ladies are a rare breed in MMORPGs.

I did read somthing about Guild Halls, which I believe are limited, as for player housing, I read that it will exist, but I havent found any specific info on it, with hope they will be reduced to residential zones only, that are added in addition to the world so as not to clutter adventuring space. I know everybodies boats are gonna be docked in a port rather than cluttered all over the shores which tells me they are heading down the right path. I have faith...

I read somewhere a lonnnnnng time ago that players will be allowed to buy houses (but it will be VERY costy and limited) and the second option is to RENT an appartment...(i think that is a free appartment given to every players) like in FFXI (mog house).

There again i read this a long time ago but im pretty sure of me. :D

    Now playing : FFXIV

This little rogue would be happy if I could purchase a key from an Inn Keeper and have a simple room to keep my things and entertain my friends...and maybe find a wizard friend that could set up the lock so other rogues couldn't get in.

EQ2 will have player housing, but that doesn't mean they will necessarily have player cities.  They are two completely different things.  Also, player cities are a lot more complicated to make than it looks.  It also gives guilds more things to do besides just creating a guild hall.

Yeah, it won't be a player city for sure... But more like, you can buy houses already builded (so that's why it's limited and so costy that only big guilds can afford) but i think it's kind of cool heh!?

Indeed cool, its all the better without player cities, as i said before, they only clutter the land and give people the illusion of accomplishment. I can deal with residential apartments like AO, which looks like the case here with the exception of guild halls which seem static and limited (which i also stand by, there shouldn't be millions of guilds)
