UO nowadays

I quit UO for good (I thought) around four or so years ago. For a short while after that I played some of those 'other' shards. *cough* Lately, I've been thinking (and thinking and thinking) of playing official UO again. I know it's changed and God knows I hate insurance,  image  but I miss the playability of it badly! I've been playing WoW, for example, and although it's pretty good eye candy, I just can't seem to get into it. I would LOVE to work on GMing skills again, possibly rare hunting (if it's still sort similar or done at all). Do any of you guys know what the housing situation is like nowadays? Can you still camp condemned housing spots, for instance? Or are all the spots full and stay full? If I do play again, I'd love to get the lowdown on the server with the most enjoyable playerbase (if possible). I know someone posted that the Siege shard is pretty kool cuz people can't insure every frickin' thing they have. This is a definite possibility and would like other's input as to what they would suggest. Also, would love to hear about anything interesting going on at the moment and so on. One thing that ultimately sucks is that I have no clue about my old username/password *sigh*.  image

Anyway, LONG LIVE UO! 

At least until they day they give it a comlete engine overhaul and get rid of some of the annoying newer changes. On that note, long live hope!  image

    If you don't like insurance, there is one official shard you can play that has an all fel ruleset.

    That shard is Siege Perilous.

    Siege has a good group of people. Of course its not near as populated as the traditional shards but So far since ive been back ive always found pvp and reds lurking about so its definately an active shard. If you just want to go for straight out population i would say Atlantic is probably the most populated. On Siege there is plenty of housing room left but one tip is unless you have a mage try to build your house close to a moongate. No Recalls on siege you can use a moongate or a mage can cast a gate that is all.

    Siege should have been an original ruleset shard.  I still don't understand why the never opened a server with the release version of the game.

     

    As to the original post, I just recently resubbed for a month and all I can say is, "They added freaking elves?!?!?  WTF!?!?!?"  If they would open a server with the pre-Trammel and no expansions (or even just the T2A expansion) I'd be willing to stick around.  I don't like everything that has been done to the game since Malas was added.  Elves and Ninjas?  What were they smoking when they decided to add those?
