Questions on game play

If anyone has some spare time to answer my few questions it would be nice.

I am thinking of dropping WoW for either FFXI or GuildWars. I have played guildwars it seemed okay just dry on some things. In FFXI is it a constant grind or can you do solo play or with a friend pretty easily?

Is there alot of guilds that do endgame raiding ( if this applies to FFXI) late at night like around midnight cst?

Is the controls user friendly, is there mods like in wow to change your UI?

Is this game more adult ortientied? ( example guilds that act like a guild not just hey where a guild but we dont care if you go out and ninja this loot we dont care about our name)

What class would be the best to play that is there is not a over abudance of, like in WoW if you are a warrior then your pretty much out of luck unless you just wanna PUG it, then its still hard to get a group sometimes?

Thats about all I can think of for now  thanks in advance to those that reply.

Generally solo is not advisablein FFXI although Duo isn't too bad it will not compare to a full party.

End game is pretty much how most MMoRPGs are and FFXI is no different.  Expect the same dramafest as anywhere else.

No legal way to modify the UI but one advantage (big advantage IMO) is that you can use a PS2 controller to play this game.  This one is huge to me since my hand gets sore using a mouse for extended hours, which can be easy to do when playing online games.  The controls are not user friendly, but if you give yourself a few hours its not that hard to grasp.

It doesn't matter what game you play you will find players of all types.  Expect to play the game with the same courtesy as you would in any game and you will not agitate the community.

Pretty much as it is in other games Healers/Tanks have the best chances of finding a party.  Wars are good choices since they are very versatile.  Expect to wait no matter which class you choose although RDM and BRDs generally wait less than other jobs.

FFXI is not newb friendly so if you choose to play this game expect to start off very slowly.  As you gain familarity  with the game and find yourself a good Linkshell (guild) you will find your advancement in the game a lot more tolerable.  No matter what people say this game is level dependent.  The higher level you are, the easier it is to do things in this game.  Earning money and finishing quests are much easier if you are higher in level.  Thats the truth, you will not accomplish many things in this game if you don't xp grind.  Although SE made the game alot easier in that respect by adding xp bonus rings, new xp bonus zones (mainly for higher levels), and a reduced death penalty.

    Good Luck.

-Leveling is the constant Grind, and some think thats all there is to FFXI. If you let leveling consume you, You have to either enjoy it, or you'll quit from bordom.

-Guilds in FFXI are called Linkshells, The creater has a linkshell, with it he can make Link Pearls and distribute them, then he can turn Peal holders into Linkshell Sack holders where they can distribute pearls. With the pearl equiped you have your usually Linkshell Chat, Along with being able to see your members online and where they're at in the world.

There are Social Linkshells that are more around helping people, handing out, just playing the game togeather. And then level 65+ (Thats usually the minimum requirement) You can join endgame Linkshells that focus on endgame activities. There are a lot of things that fall into endgame. So some shells just focus on 2-3 Aspects of it inorder to not get overwhealmed and lose track of objectives.

-Prior to ffxi, I played a game that used the Arrow keys for movment, for a couple years. And on FFXI when I could use the Number pad (It has Arrows if you look) was awasome. Some people just like doing diffrent things, I can do everything on the keyboard. So i've got no need to get a controller to move with, then have to swtich to keyboard if I wana type somthing.

As to date, I don't think theres anything to change your controlls, Aside from getting a controller. The PS2 type controllers work, and also xbox 360 controllers.

-You have reputation on FFXI. Not through the game, But everything you do, good or bad. Somone will remember. Say your name to their Linkshell. Just get word out about you, And over time things will add up. It doesn't make much differance in the beginning. But when you start getting to endgame. If your reputation is you're an asshole. You're going to have to work hard just to get accepted into a Linkshell. And if you turn out to be an ass, you're going to get booted.

-In FFXI, The basics for a party you need Healer, Tank, Support, 3x Damage Dealers.

White Mage are healers, Anyjob that subs whitemage like Rdm/whm, Smn/whm, Even the odd Blm/whm can heal.

Tanks early on are Warriors. Perferibly War/nin (They're also Damage Dealers), Ninja, & Paladin.

Support are Corisar, Bard, & Red mage, Of these Bard is the most powerful, and also the rarest because its so freaking boring ~.~

Damage Dealers are everything left over. Black mage, Monk, Thief, Warrior (mentioned above), Beastmaster*, Blue mage, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Puppetmaster, Range, Samurai, Summoner.

So as you see, being a Healer, Tank, or Support will get you better invites rather than being a Damage dealer, Because there are so many choices for DD spots.

*Bastmaster: It was put under DD because it is, They're basically a Warrior in a Party using a Jug pet. But Beastmaster is one of the few jobs that can solo effectivly outside of a party. And they're actually not found very often in parties.

If you're using a mouse in PC FFXI you're doing somthing wrong.

If you read my post I use a controller.  Contoller > Keyboard.  The game was designed to be played with a PS2 contoller.  If you aren't using a contoller in FFXI you're doing something wrong.

Besides I was talking about playing PC games in general.  I didn't mention FFXI specifically.

We're on a FFXI forum, So when you mention using the mouse. Unless you specificly mention another game, then its implied that you mean FFXI.

The Ps2 version was designed to be played with a Ps2 controller, We're not on Ps2 Now are we :) Even the xbox 360's controllers can be moved over to PC but that doesn't mean FFXI PC was designed for them, just compatible.

You don't need to make any more replies trying to grow your E-Peen. The questions of this thread have already been answered.

If you think I'm the one with the epeen look who is the pot calling the kettle black.

Even though I have a PC with far superior graphics, I prefer playing from my couch so I do play on the ps2 =).

FYI the game was originally made for the PS2 for good or bad (graphical limitations), so for you to say that you play on the PC is irrelevent.  The game design is still basically the same and if you look at the FFXI configurations on your PC, there is a gamepad calibration setup.

-Well, not to sure if you still read this post but...The controls are a bit different from your average MMORPG...but i like it, i think its better...People prefer controllers (PS2, XBOX 360) some prefer keyboards. Theres 2 ways to play on th Keyboard 1. NUM PAD 2. W,A,S,D Keys...i prefer the WASD keys, its easier to me and im so use to it.

-As far as i know, there isnt a way to actually change the UI Shape and stuff..but you can change the pattern and color image

-There really isnt a BEST Job in the game, its more of what you like. Just gotta learn the job and play it right..get advice from friends/people, read up on it and stuff like that.

-Not tryin to be mean or anything, but please eveyrone has to stop trying to compare Final Fantasy XI to WoW....i kinda hate hearing that comparison, theyre two COMPLETELY different games
