COx or WoW?

revolver86revolver86 Member Posts: 11

I was an avid EQ player back in the day, then I played COH/V for quite some time but had to quit due to budget issues a few months back. I recently saw the South Park WoW episode and even though it satirezed the game, it actually peaked my interest. The game is now $20 and I want to get back on the MMO wagon, but then I thought about it. Why waste $50 buying WoW and a game card (don't have a credit card so I HAVE to buy a gamecard) when I can just spend $30 for anouth COx gamecard and get back to my lvl 30 char. So the question becomes... does WoW actually live up to the hype or should I proudly stay behind COH/V? I can't afford to play both.

You really need to just ask yourself one question:   Do you want to be one of those who attempt to collect the "uber loot" ?

If your answer is yes, then go with WoW.

If your answer is no, then stick with CoX.

    On a side note, WoW's community can't hold a candlestick to CoH's.

I want a game that is fast paced, has a great community, and I don't have to waste most of my time doing non combat things. I'm more of the RP gamer than the prefectionist "needs every last item" gamer. I just want to make friends andhave fun. Something tells me I'm answering my own question here :) I might just stick with COH. But if someone can convince me otherwise, you're more than welcome to.

Come to CoV!  Don't trust these "goodies fellow", they are just trying to make you soft and tender to hit you in the back!  image

Welcome back, with CoX you can't lose time away from combat unless you actually enjoy fashion and changing look or roleplaying, in which case you are happy with it and you can stop anytime you want to go back to the main course...fighting minions & more!  image

I've enjoyed COH that much more with COV in place.  I'm not a huge pvper but its enjoyable when I want to venture into the zones with my Supergroup.  If you don't have it yet pick up COV for 20 bucks to get all the cool stuff it adds to the game.  I play almost solely on the hero side and run my SG and still think its worth it for the base stuff and additional costumes, and COV's classes are good for a change of pace though the hero side classes still seem more fun to me personally.  If you need a super group on freedom send a tell to darkside of smooth and join us in the royalblackwatch.

Well a lot WoW can be spent traveling, repairing armor, gather stuff for your crafting professions etc. Although you can fight as you travel, having played both games you will probably wind up doing far more non-combat stuff in WoW. Plus in general I didn't like the community as much in WoW and it is harder to group if you are up for that as well.

Success without limitations of law, thats what drew me to the dark side. I had experiments to do and to little time to have some goverment organization delaying me with redtape. So now I experiment on the various evils the villians face. Treading that fine line between villian and artful dodger can be tricky! I can encourage ya to come to the land of oppurtunities tho! I just came from Wow and my enjoyment in MMOs has never been higher...but there is an odd desire to fish...
I like not having to stress over gear, instances (see Wow, not Cox), etc. Like I said elsewhere, Cox keeps it simple and fun. Thats enough for me. I hate feeling like I am working when I am not at work if you know what I mean.

I decided to get WoW. I've played COx and while I never reached the endgame on either heroes or villains, I feel it is time to try something new and join in on the sensation that is WoW. And if I don't enjoy it, I'll play out my gamecard than go get a COx card and restart that. Thanks for your opinions, though, everyone!

Let me stop you right there, friend! No need to make your decision any harder than it has to be at this point.

WoW has the worst MMO community I have ever experienced (and I have played them all). Play anything else but WoW if you want a mature community...unless Chuck Norris shit makes you laugh.

Well, you have decided, but if you were looking for a good game, no downtime at all, no griefers, great community, simple rules, you should never play WOW. Is it something new? Are you sure?

More: you never reached end game in CoX, what i wish to know is if you have reached 40+. If you never reached 40+ you have missed the best game content. IMO.

Anyway, enjoy WOW if it's your decision, i thinki you will be back soon in Paragon City. :)

you made the right decision. WoW is growing rapidly. The end game is evil though however it's well balanced. every class can contribute to the raids (at least pre burning crusade). The only problem is at the end if you want to keep going then you have grind for gear that have like 5% or less chance to drop (see thottbot). WoW is still more of a real MMO since its not instanced and healers in WoW really are healers meaning you'll get rezzed or healed. In CoX, you never know if you'll get rezzed cause many folks skip basic powers like taunt/rez cause of the gimped power selection system.

Crafting in WoW is really fun and the PvP is really good too. The talent tree system simply blows away CoX. in CoX, they only give you so many respecs and make ya go through hell to earn it (unless an issue comes out then you might get a free one). In WoW, you have limitless respecs so you can always tweak your character

The CoX servers are all dying. think the only mid populated ones are freedom and virtue. in WoW, most any server is full to the rim meaning even at end game you'll always find HUGE raiding parties. And it will get even better with Burning Crusade

Lol, right now im not subscribing to any MMOs. I sorta just play Rappelz when i get an inch to play an MMO for now til neevrwinter nights 2 / Fury arrives.

I find it odd that there's a right choice of MMO when liking something is an opinion.

*Shrug* I'm subscribed to WoW, too, but I've gotten bored of it in like two weeks.

You bear it a whole 13 days longer than me, and I admire your resilience.  I was angry and cursing while I was on my first day, some lowly level running around but having read their view of "endgame", so I left fast. I know I couldn't have bear to level another character to meet such a lame "ending".

In 2 weeks you get how many 60ish? image  Haha teasing, but you may very well have gotten 1 if you are just that focused about these games, 2 weeks is plenty for WoW! image

Make sure you get your real life friends to play with you. The truth strength of any MMO is making good friends to enjoy the journey with. Also make sure you experiment with the different classes. Certain playstyles may not fit you. Also, if you're coming from CoX then you most likely wont enjoy WoW because the traveling is a lot slower. For a CoX player, I recommend rolling a Shaman like I did. You get ghost wolf at like level 20 and you can reach level 20 in just a few days.

For any MMO, my advice is to always try to reach midlife if at all possible. In WoW, that's level 40. At Level 40 you'll get a better feel for the game. You'd have tasted the blood of the opposite faction by then if you're on a PvP server, done battlegrounds, and instances.

Right now I'm casually playing Rappelz. I'm level 17/JLv 15. For example, I won't give my opinion til I hit at least 25ish (25 / 100). So at least at that point I'd have seen 25% of the game. edit- so my point is when evaulating an MMO try to subscribe for at least a month or so and get to mid life. But i suppose if it sucks badly for you then yes no point in playing anymore

btw, there is also Guild Wars if you enjoy PvP. It's all instanced like CoX however its much better value. I never had problems finding teams I've leveled 3 toons to 20 (unlocked all prophecies campaign. In order to give Guild Wars a fair shake, please join a Guild and do the Guild Wars.

All the MMOs right now are really all just major grind from what I've seen (WoW, CoX, EQ2 well only level 18 in EQ2 so my opinion doesnt count much there). My recommendation to everyone is really to try to be content with Oblivion and Guild Wars til a revolutionary MMO releases that doesnt feature grind like the current generation. You're really not getting good value for any of the current MMOs out there besides Guild Wars.

um, wow doesn't seem to be growing rapidly here in the states.  crafting in wow is subpar compared to every other mmo.  pvp became an afterthought when kaplan took over, if you don't believe it, then compare number of battlegrounds to morethansingleteam instances.  and your comments about folks skipping basic powers in cox.... seriously, do you work for blizzard and are trying to drum up business?

If you like fantasy, you can't beat WoW.

If you are bored of fantasy go for COH.

    .

The endgame in WoW gets a lot of stick, but if you have played COH, you will realise how excellent it really is.

CoX has one of the best online communities I have ever been apart of, you just got to get into it. WoW's is mostly leetist/childish, but there are a few cool people. CoX is more about levelling up then endgame but the endgame is entertaining. while WoW is all endgame cause levelling in wow is boring, and its all about soloing which i dont like. CoX is more fast paced imo.

I vote CoX, I think woW is overrated, its too easy and because of being overrated and overpopulated the community is half retarded... when i was about to quit the most fun to have was typing chuck norris in barrens general chat and read the chaos. :P

eq before luclin ftw, most fun i have ever had in any mmorpg. wait for vanguard even tho your on a budget... should be promising to eq fans.

lol there is no endgame in CoX. How can you call raiding ONE dungeon with only 8 people and out of those 8 spots you gotta be either Radiation Defender/Corrupter, Kinetics Defender/Corrupter, or stone Tanker/Brute. There is no end game and not very much PvP in CoX. but really all you need is 8 defenders.

And the only reason you trying to say WoW is too easy cause we both know it takes like 150+ hrs to hit level 50 in CoX.

CoX is a decent game and can be a lot of fun for the hardcore role players that likes the background but please dont try to blow this MMO up lol

New MMO gamers should just try both and try to get to midlife in both MMOs and make their own judgement. But please dont try to rate an MMO based on a lowbie zone like Barrens lol. Barrens is < 20.

Ya know, honestly the lack of the raiding endgame is one of the big things I like about CoH/CoV.  Some folks really love it, but I did big endgame raiding for several years and quite honestly, it just got really old and plain not-fun after a while.

That's just me though.  Your mileage may vary.
