I think Vanguard is taking a big gamble and assuming that a vast majority of players are looking for harder pve content and more chat mini games ( diplomacy). I firmly dont think they want this to be a niche game. I just dont see anything new. After years of playing mmo's my taste and likes have changed or evolved. This game is going to be a step back and quite frankly I am not the same gammer that i was when played everquest 1 for two years.
Ideas I think they should have encorperated some.
Twitch combat or a version. Pushing hot bars is getting old.
Sandbox elements. Building town or cities.
Item/ carfting design ( like online editing tools to make unique weapons and armor)
Meaning Full pvp.
Alternative stratagy elements. Like running a farm in the world or a horse breeding operation. To a far sea trading company.
and what ever.
Vanguard seems like Everquest 1 with different classes and skills with a little mini game call dioplamacy tossed in.
No offence to all the fanboi's but i wish vanguard was something else because of the great devoplment team and Big budget I will be dissapointed.

thats kool that you are looking for something new and different like a twitch style game but if you really think that is the only thing that sets vanguard aside from eq1 i suggest you read a little bit more on the game.
sure it is similar to eq1 in that it has alot of races/classes and yes there are some similar skills as well as some different ones. but there is just so much more you will be able to do in vanguard as apposed to eq1 or eq2.
and again, some people don't like traditional rpg or mmorpg style combat...thats kool but alot of people like it. i never played eq1 because it had great combat, if i did i would have quit after an hour of playing it.
i played eq because of the rpg elements as well as the strong emphasis on community, it felt like a living breathing fantasy world and reminded me of my D&D pvp days in that respect.
BTW every mmo will feature "pushing hotbars" as you called it, even in a twitch combat system. to me auto attack eliminates the monotony of the huge clicking fest witch is twitch combat.
and even in twitch combat theres going to be alot of skills and abilities you will need to activate via a hotbutton, as long as these games remain to be in depth with lots of skills and abilities you will always be force into "pushing hot bars".
but i will say they are indeed taking a gamble, but so is AOC with their new style of combat in a mmorpg. ask yourself this, what is more of a gamble? taking proven successful game mechanics and improving on them? or making an innovative mmog that has not really been tried in the past?....at least not successfully.
i can name a whole lot of successful mmog's that have taken proven mechanics and just added to them or improved them....as a matter of fact they have all been the most successful ones.
ohh noeez you pulled the "i was in beta card" i assumed by the title name we were talking about the release version not the beta version you and your guild played in.
well now it all makes sense why you think vanguard is so much like eq1, from what i hear there are lots of the promised details not in the game yet.
I know the player cities will come in a future expansion? I am pretty sure I read that somewhere, and with many planned expansions, I am sure VG will keep many of us busy for a long time to come, but of course there is not going to be on single game out there that suits everyone, that's just the way it is.
It is always good to hear other peoples opinions, I am not one to bash anyones thoughts or opinions. I am just here to share and read information about a game I am interested in plain and simple
