He won a Revolutionary War based upon revolutionary ideas.
Having commanded through peril his armies to victory, he gave up power.
He suppressed Shays Rebellion and preserved the Articles of Confederation.
He presided over the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.
He created the informal term limits for presidents.
    2. Thomas Jefferson
His purchase of "Louisiana" did not just double the size of the United States, but it meant that the refugees from Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, and Germany would have land to settle and - with all the risks inherent in true freedom - to thrive.  Jefferson also defeated the first, and in many ways the greatest, threat to our constitutional liberties. When the Federalists passed the Alien and Sedition Acts, it was serious business.
    3. Ronald Reagan
He won a Cold War without bloodshed and restored the principles of limited government to their proper place. Ronald Reagan faced the nearly mortal gunshot wound from a would-be assassin not just with courage, but with humor.
    4. Abraham Lincoln
His tenacity preserved the Union and his vision began the process of emancipation. Lincoln was a very political animal, but he was also a very benevolent man whose fundamental goodness has been an inspiration to later presidents.
    5. George W. Bush
He has already established himself as at least our fifth best president, and he may well end up higher than fifth. That is, of course, the obvious fact about George W. Bush. He has always done much better than expected. Al Gore was supposed to whip him in the debates. Democrats were supposed to steal Florida, while Bush fumbled around. Washington was supposed to be immune to his charm. Long before September 11, George W. Bush had shown all sensible people that he was much more talented than liberals liked to think and that he wanted political power to do good.
President Bush has the confidence to surround himself with men and women who would be great presidents themselves - Dick Cheney, Lynne Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, and Condi Rice - and this willingness to trust that other people also can carry the banner of liberty is the perfect bookend to our first president.
President Bush is also proving his greatness by defining evil and focusing his attention on that evil. It is easy to paint with broad strokes, and men like Clinton and FDR were great at lumping people together. It is hard - intellectually and morally - to pinpoint what needs to be done. President Bush is relaxed, good natured, but above all he is focused.
Those are the five best. America has generally been blessed with good presidents. Dwight Eisenhower, Calvin Coolidge, James Madison, John Kennedy, George H. Bush, and Harry Truman should probably be on a short list of very good presidents.
President Bush, like the great presidents before him, will bring to us what Abraham Lincoln so eloquently described as "A new birth of freedom." Let us give thanks.

When FDR taunted Japan, stopped shipping them supplies we had always sent them, and practically begged them to go to war with us, it was probably the right moral thing to do. In fact it surely was. But he was the most popular President of all time. He had fairly good (but far from perfect) control of Congress. He could have made sure we were better armed before he got us into war. The unpreparedness of U.S. forces caused us terrible losses at Pearl Harbor and far worse ones in the Philippines. They let hundreds of U.S. vessels go to the bottom along with their brave crews under the U-boat onslaught. Yes, he did learn and geared us up for total war. But the mistakes at the beginning were extremely bad.
That was a far bigger foreign policy mistake than Iraq.

FDR caving in at Yalta, baiting the greatest man of all time, Winston Churchill, and instead siding with the worst killer of his own people of all time, J.V. Stalin, to create a Soviet slave empire in Eastern Europe — that was a far worse mistake than the Iraq war and cost far more lives. Sending captured Russians back to Stalin to be murdered by the hundreds of thousands — that was a far worse mistake than Iraq.

That was a far bigger foreign policy mistake than Iraq.

FDR taunted Japan....let me guess, the Prime Minister of Japan was poor, innocent, Ghandi. What alternate reality are you living in? The US policy toward both the European Colonialists and the Japanese Empire in regard to China was consistent since the time of the Boxer Rebellion, that is, that the US would have equal access. Japan had a lock on Manchuria, and was very busy locking down the rest of the China for the Greater Southeast Asia Co- Prosperity Sphere, ie Japan. The withholding of supplies is called an embargo, a diplomatic action taken to change behavior. All FDR did was follow a consistent US policy and embargo, the same thing you turn around and accuse Clinton of not doing to North Korea. At least I'm consistent, and don't accuse Dubya of baiting Korea. As to the US unprepardness for going to war, we were an isolationist country, nobody would have supported a pre-emptive strike, or a draft, prior to a surprise attack. We were also in a depression, nobody would have supported higher taxes for a military buildup. Prior to the Iraq invasion, Bush inherited a strong military force that could handle the situation, but unlike FDR, Bush squandered it away, along with worldwide goodwill after the 9/11 attack. At least FDR sought a declaration of war on the right enemy, Japan, and didn't go off and accuse Brazil of WMDs, supporting the Axis, or whatever seemed convenient at speech time. And hundreds of US vessels also went to the bottom, along with their brave crews, prior to the US involvement in the war, when the convoys were protected by British warships as they ran the Uboat blockade to keep Britain supplied. The Brits appreciated that, and wanted us over there. We seem to have added stability to the situation in WW 2 and killed alot less Brits then Iraqis. And as to siding with Stalin to create a slave empire, Stalin already had that, FDR didn't create it.

And in regard to Yalta, no less an authority then the West Point Military History Series on The Second World War, page 198, states "Although his conduct at Yalta has been much debated, Roosevelt was more pragmatic then naive. Russia occupied Poland, had the manpower to help defeat Japan, and could subvert his plans for the United Nations. He could not deny Stalin what Russian armies had gained." Of course, West Point should be considered traitorous liberals for not supporting hostilities against Stalin either prior to, or immediately following, the defeat of Hitler.

So, yea, FDR made alot bigger foreign policy mistake then Bush, mistakes that beat Tojo, Hitler, and Mussolini. And yea, Bush is a big success, Osama bin Ladon is dead, and Al Quada has been hunted down and destroyed. Fox news wins another one. image

So if George W Bush is #5, then I believe that 1-4 should go something like this:

    1. William Taft - Any man that can get stuck in a bathtub by his own fat is a true American man.
    2. Herbert Hoover - He sucked so bad, we have vacuum cleaners with his name.
    3. Ulysses Grant - He won the war, then appointed his drinking buddies to the cabinet, another real American.
    4. William Harrison - He began the trend of American's poor health.

Chester Arthur and Grover Cleveland get honorable mention for their mustaches, and Harry Truman for having the letter S as his middle name.

Peyton Randolph also deserves mention for being the first president on American soil.

    LOL! I love those!

I think Bush should be the #1 WORST President so far. I doubt anyone will be able to do any worse than he has, with all of his mess ups and fucking up our economy. We're in debt big time because of him. ( Before someone says we were in debt when Clinton was in office, your're an idiot. We weren't in debt at all, do your research! )

In fact, Bush has our people fighting a war we should even be fighting! He said it so himself too. -.-

Lmao, Hillary will be a far better president than Bush could ever hope to be.

Which is scary because she's a Clinton and a Democrat. XD

I wouldn't want hillarly in office ever.  She's a two faced bitch.  All of her "views" are whatever give more personal gain.  People called kerry a flip-flopper (what a rediculous term), but I know she will be worse.  I hope the democrats put someone else up rather than her.

Just look at how she screwed up NY...

I hope you get banned for calling someone that. You had no right to call him that at all, let alone with that kind of term!

It takes a very special person to earn that distinction from the likes of the four leading contenders for that title: Millard Fillmore, James Buchanan, Warren G. Harding, and Andrew Johnson.  A unique and special sort of drive for imperfection.  Does Bush have what it takes?  Well, we have two more years to find out.  I'll say no more but to just leave it up for history to decide.

This forum is "loosely moderated." If he gets banned for calling someone a faggot, this section isn't living up to its description. As immature as I think it is, the moderation needs to lay off these matters.

    LOL

As I hope is the case with most the posts in this thread.

The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling
