I'm now looking at my 17th starter ship and my cash is
almost down to 0 ISK. I read all the newbie guides and did the tutorial but I'm
stuck with no clue what to do. After completing the training agent missions I
got a flight certificate telling me to meet another agent 8 jumps away. I meet
up with her and accepted her mission, but I can't beat the damn thing... I've
been killed over and over trying to complete it. Every time it cost me more ISK
and time to outfit a new ship and try again. This is the only agent with a
mission I've been able to find... so now I'm stuck watching my ship get taken
out by pirates over and over. Any ideas on what I can do?
Comments
1. Quit losing ships. If you're getting eaten by Player Pirates, why the hell do you keep going back to low sec? Stop that.
2. Kill NPCs and keep upgrading. Just start out in 0.8 and search the belts for NPCs. Soon you will have enough money to complete your mission. If items aren't worth anything to sell on the market, just right click on them and hit "reprocess" this will turn them back into the materials they were made from. Which are much easier to sell.
3. This is quite dangerous, but you can take up scaveging. Many systems have jump gates absolutely LITTERED with NPC Containers that are about 100km away from the gate. Get you a nice fast little frigate with alot of holds, find one of these gates. Right click one of the cans that are 100km away, bookmark it, then warp away. Next warp to the bookmark, this will put you at 15km away from the can instead of 100km. Now just pick up all the stuff in the cans and you can make a good 400,000 ISK an hour doing this.... which is pretty good for a newbie but I repeat........ IT'S DANGEROUS! because the players who own the cans and everyone in their corp now has the right to kill you once you steal from their cans. But they will never be back to pick them up.
A Work in Progress.

(Note: Ship types are based on assumption you are caldari, if not caldari then insert appropriate ship names)
At the end of your 'training' you were sent to an agent... she gave you a mission... evidently the mission is in a low-sec area? That correct? If so then simply tell the agent you're not interested in her mission. You WILL take a faction hit with the agent but at level 1 missions it shouldn't be insurmountable. She should still give you missions despite it. If your mission is NOT in low-sec then look me up (or the other player) in game.
How to find other agents:
- In the station where you get your missions from your agent up in the top right corner there's a symbol that states which corporation runs the station you're at. Click on that symbol. It should open the Corp info for that corporation.
- Once you find the Corp info page click on AGENTS this will list all the various agents that the corp has, broken down by which sub-division of the corporation they are working for. I tend to stick to command, one of the security types, etc. (Kill mission agents). But you can do whatever floats your boat.
- Select one of the sub-divisions and expand it. You should get a list of agents. A few will say available and a few will say you can't use them yet. Go through the agents you CAN use and see where they are. Find one in a less hostile area and go there. Do missions for them. Best to try to find one that is NOT surrounded by low-sec.
Now if your agent isn't giving you assignements in lowsec and it's just that you can't accomplish the mission in your current ship then stop doing the missions for now. do the following:(If that doesn't work open the INFO pane on the agent you use, then click on the corp icon on HER info page).
1) If you are so strapped that you can't afford a REAL frigate (please tell me you're not actually trying to do missions in an Ibis?) then you could be in a bit of a pickle but it's not insurmountable. While you recoup funds please make sure you are training frigates to 3 or 4 if you aren't already there and also be training your combat skills up if you plan to run missions. Or, if you plan to go the industrial route in EVE then train your mining skills and manufacturing skills up. No matter WHAT you choose make sure you ALWAYS have a skill training, even when you're logged out of the game! If you are going to be off a long time, set a long skill to train while you're off (If you are NOT so strapped for cash that you can't afford a real frig then skip to step 2):
- If completely broke then simply fit 2 miner 1's on your Ibis and go mine scordite... mine lots and lots of scordite and take it back to your station. Refine and then sell the minerals you get for it. It'll take a couple hours but you should eventually have enough to buy a Bantam (They're cheap and they're awesome for mining. As mentioned if you're NOT caldari then find the ship type that has the best mining mods. Yes, Mining sucks but you really don't want to be trying to rat in an ibis... you will just die... alot).
- Once you have the bantam dump the ibis, stick miners on the bantam and go repeat the process. The scordite should come in a LOT faster now.
2) You will eventually have a couple hundred thousand ISK banked upand now it's time to buy either a Kestrel or a Merlin (as noted, ship
names will differ if you're not Caldari... if you're another race then
pick a race appropriate Frigates 2+ frig that has good armor, decent
speed and good weapons loadouts, possibly even get recommendations on
the official eve forums or ask here, we'll be happy to help) DO NOT BUY THE SHIP IF YOU CANNOT INSURE IT! Save up to make sure
you have money for insurance. Bonus points if you save up so you have
the money to equip it (TWICE) as well.
3) Ok now you have a combat frigate! You're ready to go kick a lil rump... Hopefully if you have a kessie you rigged it with 3 standard missile launchers, probably a BCU and some other toys. Odds are since you're new you can't afford an MPAC so 3 launchers will have to do. If you bought a merlin you darn well better have 2 good rails on it (I recommend 150's) and at least 1 launcher, preferably 2. If not then 2 rocket launchers. It's time to go back to that agent (or another one if you found a different one).
- Odds are by now your original mission has expired but, if it hasn't, it's time to go kick some rear and take some names. Unless the mission was in low-sec! If it was in low sec decline it, now. (In future BEFORE accepting a mission ask your agent for "more details" and check for the "low sec warning" before taking it.)
- Ok now you are either back doing your old mission or you got a new one from either your original, or a new agent. (hopefully the original one because that's a storyline arc and at the end you get a cool implant that will sell for decent money and help you recoup your nest egg for a cruiser.
- go do your mission. Have fun, kick rear, take names.
Hopefully this helps get you back on your feet. You're still on a trial account so unfortunately I won't send you ISK to help out. (I don't give money to trial accounts... it's generally a waste of time, sorry. It's nothing personal... my brother is on a trial and I told him I wouldn't give him any ISK unless he decides to actually play the real game first)Tip: When first starting out always make instas as you travel. Until CCP fixes it so we don't need the damn things they are invaluable.
How to make an 'instawarp':
Start Point ---------------------------------------------- Destination --- 11km --- You (Make bookmark here)
The most important bookmarks to make are 'gate to gate' bookmarks, in empire. You will eventually want station bookmarks and station -to-gate bookmarks as well. I find shuttles are a nice cheap way to make bookmarks in a fast ship, especially for the new player who doesn't have high navigation or AB or MWD skills to make normal ships go 'fast'.
Generally speaking if I ever have to go to a system I haven't already been to I will first go in a shuttle (they're only 9k or so, you won't break the bank by owning one) and make bookmarks for the trip there. If it's a low-sec area I'll also make a 'safe spot' bookmark somewhere in the system as well, usually between two gates in the system. (to make a safespot just create a bookmark while warping, wherever you hit "ok" at the bookmark will be... so just warp to the opposite gate and along the way create a bookmark. Name it 'safe spot'. And you now have a safe spot that's in-line between the gates. If you make more than one make sure you label them something you can understand later )
Once you have safe spots and istawarps you are in great shape. (hint: If you have safe spots and instawarps to the gates in a lowsec region you're PRETTY safe from those nasty gate campers by the way and can now even do missions in that region in relative peace)
Good luck.

1. Drop the mission.
2. It can't be done in the ship you are in intially. Get a better frigate. The better frigate will give you a chance to see that the second jump area must be avoided before you get blown to pieces(staying to fight is suicide), go through the acceleration gate to the third jump area, complete the mission there.
The mission you are doing is called "worlds collide" by any chance? If so then you ran into hardest level 1 mission right from the start. You can do in the newbie ship but you have to understand combat dynamics for a brand new player I would recomend to dropping it and trying another mission.
