Ugh, I'm not as worried about private business spying on my business as much as I'm concerned about government spying. The government has the guns and the ability to take away my rights, private business doesn't.

On topic though, I have a specific computer that isn't connected to the net just for this kind of stuff.

The government isn't going to do anything unless you are: A) Illegally accessing classified information, in which case spyware is one of the least of your worries. B) Accessing/sharing child pornography, in which case you have bigger problems than breating. C) You're sharing shit-tons of copyrighted material, in which case the private sector is your biggest concern.

I'm not concerned about the government, as I have nothing to hide from them. My only concern is the private sector getting a hold of personal information and spamming me online and off.

I think putting it on a paper inside the box is slimey. They should at least dislcose that info in a place that would help someone determine if they wanted to buy it. Now that is the only thinkg that really bugs me about it. I personally don't give a crap if the mine data. I have nothing to hide. But some people should get this info outside of the box.

"If you don't want to share this info, do not install it on a pc that connects to the internet."

Well, what the hell? Someone just paid 50 bucks for a multiplayer game and the company is saying don't install it on a pc conncected to the internet? Oh yeah and thanks for the 50 bucks.

Just re-install direct-X9c I think, and if that dosen't work google the error and type in some steps, that is what I did.

It's a common error and people post a lot about it.

knowing that Spore has an online component is a bit scary to me now, I am not at all interested in Battlefield 2142, but if they pull this shit with Spore then I will be very disapointed.

Well, the game is cool and all...

In my oppinion though; it is wayyy to easy compared to BF2, and less realistic. Oh well, i'm buying it anyways.

Wel im a MASSIVE BF2 fan and player. Still averaging around 2 hours per day almost a year after buying it. Its just a superb game and so much fun.

I have played 2142 through about 4 different builds over the last 6 months. I pre-ordered about 3 months ago.

Well here is the kicker. The more I played the latest 2142 Demo client the less I liked the game. After 2 weeks of playing 3-4 hour sessions (total maybe 30 hours) I cancelled my pre-order.

For what its worth here are my opinions.

Soldier kits are badly thought out. No single starter kit is powerful enough to make you anything other than vehicle fodder. The terrain and uniforms are too samey. In BF2 you can pick out your targets, in 2142 someone can be standing on top of you and you wont be able to tell them from the scenery or from an enemy (yup call me a noob, I have almost 30K points in BF2image) Its not a good thing. Camoflage is fine, scenery and soldier textures so similar you cant tell one from the other is not. Titan mode is basically a circular flag exchange to see who can shoot of the most missiles, attacking the titans requires team work that just does not happen on normal servers. So what Im saying is if your not in a clan (and I dont want to be in one) your going to get a lot less enjoyment from 2142. Thats not a bad thing overall..... but it doesnt suit me personally.

Soldier movement feels slow and unreal. You dont feel like your actually there and running like you do in BF2. You feel detatched from your soldier who seems to run like Steve Austin on valium. Kit weapons are generally underpowerd for my liking. Takes way too many rounds to drop someone, especially as support, all you do by firing is reveal your loction for some vehicle to stomp you.

On the good side.... vehicles are great, much more fun than BF2 and the aircraft are easier to fly.

So overall.... I decided to stick with BF2. Im very disapointed because I really wanted to like this game and gave it every chance to hook me.

That was the problem that I had with battlefield two, I felt like the vehicles played too big of a role and that if you didn't have one you might as well go covert ops and try to blow up enemy strategic structures, because that was all there was to do.  Trying to be infantry was next to impossible when there so much as one tank in the area.  And if the vehicles didn't get you, then the artillery would.  Every now and then you get a fun game going on certain maps where vehicles and artillery don't ruin it too much, but those are few and far between.  I much prefered the style of Battlefield Vietnam.

I might buy a new Battlefield game, when they make one that is true to the environment, like Crysis. When I blow 5 satchels of C4 on a stone wall, that wall shouldn't be there anymore (or at least there should be a hole). I'll play that. BF2142 is nothing but BF2 will new textures and EVEN MORE gimped avatars/controls.

    I'm waiting for Quake Wars.

Last nite I installed the game and started playing.  I must have been lucky or something, because I spawned next to one of those giant walkers.  I hopped in and withing 10 minutes or less, I got 5 kills.  Eventually, I was destroyed.

It was fun for an hour.  I didnt see many players.  Most of them were in vehicles.  I may try for awhile tonight again.  My kids will be over, so I will let them judge the game.  They are 13 and 15 boys.  They amaze me in Call of Duty 2 multiplayer.
