    The origional SWG.

    Earth and Beyond.

The game had such potential, of course most of that was realized by Eve online anyway, but Earth and Beyond had a certain layer to it that was more accessable to the less hardcore players...it really succeeded in bringing a sense of community to the game that Eve just doesn't have as a result of all the cut throat pvp and macro mining that goes on.

And of course, pre CU/NGE Star Wars Galaxies...I wouldn't go back to even a pre cu server at this point, but that game gave me some of the most enjoyable experiences that I have ever had in an MMORPG.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

I agree witht the others that have said this. SWG. A dreem come true, and starting with CU a dream turned nightmare. I would go back to a pre cu server though, but only if it was pre-cu non jedi server.

Is Gary Gygax's Legendary Adventures still in the works? If not, that's the one I lament, but Hero's Journey is taking my mind off it. :D

    Pre-blackout horizons.

    *Sigh*

That was such a beautiful dream.

UO2 definatly, that was looking sweet....

And The Matrix Online before the 'Combat Upgrade'.. (Hell, does anyone think happy thoughts in regards to SOE anymore ??)

Would definitely be Earth and Beyond.  Since EA thought that 'The Sims' was a better place to spend their money, those of us who were entranced in the E&B world had to suffer.

Gosh, I do miss fishin' for Zenreth-Ti  image

Pre-CU SWG.  It had more ambition and more potential than any MMO ever released.

The NGE isn't even a legit joke parody.

    Earth & Beyond.

It had a good storyline with a thorough history, with a storyline
stretching well into the future. Unfortunately, the development team
were starved of resources by EA and not able to fulfil the promise this
game had. Even so, the game built up a truly loyal fan base and
retained subscribers right up to the time EA announced it was being
    scrapped.

I've had a few cancelations that really dissapointed me.

The first was Dune: Generations being developed by CryoNetworks back around 2001/2002 which was canceled when Cryo went under along with the dreams of finally having a Dune MMO. It had some amazing detail, great gameplay features and some truly innovative ideas. My favorite was the large scale battles to vie for control of Arakis and other planets, where commanders would command from the back of the battle and contol troop transport and large vehicles in an RTS like environment while soldiers and other classes would be on the front lines in the typical MMO 3rd Person setting.

There was everything in the game, a space environment, large scale fighting, magic, crafting, lots of races and classes. Besides, I always wanted to be a Bene Geserit Witch. Wasn't meant to be I suppose but still, it stings a little.

The second is Dark World Online which was supposed to be in development by the folks over at Tulga Games (Of Horizons fame/shame). I've been waiting forever for a dark gothic/vampire game but these freaking developers of late seem so completely obssesed with Dwarves, Gnomes and Elves that they ignore what could possibly be a gigantic hit. Well anyways, Tulga sells off Horizzons and basically says that everything else in development is to be scrapped and so Dark World Online goes down the tubes along with my hopes of playing something other then an Elf...

    /sigh

Oh well, never know, maybe some eager young dev somewhere will realize that there's a huge market out there for a game like this and really put some thought, time and money into developing a good project around the likes of Dark World.

Imperator Online. Rome in the future by the makers of DAoC? Sounded good to me.

EQ I, without question!  I had some good times and some good friends in that game.  I have yet to feel the same addtiction to any of the other games I've played.

Sure there are better graphics in other games, but the story lined developed in EQ has yet to surpassed IMHO.

Middle Earth Online, the one Sierra was about to make. Really hardcore, that would have been a mmoRPg, but then Sierra chickened out and kicked the dev team. That was the end. And pre-trammel UO ofcourse.

I really miss Earth and Beyond. In hoping that it comes back in some form, I still have the notebooks with all of the receipes for everything in the game. At least most of my friends eventually went to EVE, EVE is just not the same. Nothing like going into a station and interacting with your friends' toons. I have only bought one EA game since then, which is BF2.

    Classic SWG.

2 games make my short list.

UO2 - the insanity that EA is probably going to be kicking themselves over for years. They could have been WoW.

Charr: The Grimm fate - this one wasn't so well know. It may have never made it past the vapourware stage. But it showed promise and had a hell of a lot of original ideas for its time. You can still see some concept images at gamespot.
