If you can wait a bit longer, you can get the newest expansion Echoes of Fawyder. This will include EQ2 original game, Desert of Flames and Kingdom of Sky. So basically you get the original EQ2 plus all three expansions for the one low price.
Dont bother with the adventure packs at the moment, they are extra content for people who have been around a bit longer.
There are 2 expansions available, desert of flames (45-60) and kingdom of the sky (55-70) with a third coming in the near future.
There are 2 currently available retail boxes for EQ2, an EQ2 classic box that normally sells for $10 and contains only the original game, and a KoS box that contains the KoS expansion plus the original game and normally sells for $30. There is no separate KoS expansion box, that I know of, if you buy the KoS box you get the full game.
Of the two current expansions the only one you should be looking at currently is Kingdom of the Sky. Its level 55 70 content, which you will not need yet but it allows you to start earning AA points once you hit level 20, something that may be of interest to you. Otherwise you can skip all the current expansions and simply wait for EoF because the EoF retail box will come bundled with both the current expansions.
Go for the retail boxes if you get the expansions. The didgital downloads are not bundled the way the retail boxes are. For example if you get the didgital download versions you only get EoF, not KoS and DoF like you would with the retail box.
being new, yuo should just use the standard EQ2, cuz you don't get much and if you get tired of playing it or anything then you will only be out the initial $$. Once you get much further in you can get the expansions
