he gotta be kidding right?. 1920x1200, high graphics settings and it looks like something my 7year old kid could have made with mspaint. looks as bad or worse than my screenshots from horizon / eq1 to be honest.

I have great expectations from this game though.
I think im gonna like it alot.
im stil hoping it will turn out alright, but the latest set of vids and now these screenshots just left me feeling cheated.
gone is the stunning work, and amazing character art, and we are left with a eq2 style plastic world and characters where characters the most of the time looks out of place or even misplaced (feet sticking into grund, collision with rocks or other players).
im having a hard time swallowing this plastic graphics when you compare to other games around the corner. i know its all vaporware til we get it in our hands but comparing the current results i fear VSH will end up like eq2 with a small, very small, player base and as a result limited funding.

That is what I was wondering, and that side kick is all wierd like hsi ankle is broke. Sure you can hit with the heel or edge of your foot with a side kick but your ankle doesn't angle like that.
I must admit.. those screens are ugly. the desert when you zoom in looks nice.. it has a good texture etc. but when I look at the whole picture.. heh i'm really disappointed =/ they should look at gw.. that game has nice graphics and you don't need pc for few thousand dollars to run it =[
If you read my posting record here and otherwise you'll see I am no fanboi of Vanguard, but rather critical. Still, I feel I have to defend the screenshots a little.
First, those shots, like some others, are deserts or steppes. They are supposed to be bare.
Second, while they are not breathtaking, they are alright. Remind me of Tatooine in SWG, which is still one of my fav games by world design. I know other prefer smaller but more dense zones, like WOW has, but I always loved the wide and vast areas of SWG, and Vanguard seems to have similar landscapes.
Finally, large landscapes with too filled and detailled things in it might demand high end computers, so I prefer a balance between detail and hardware demand, tbh. I have no gain of a high detailled game which I cant run on my machine. Sigil would be quite able to program many more details into it, but eventually it would limit the number of people who could run it on their computers too much.
EDIT: Anyone who says Vanguard does NOT look like EQ2 now gets punched!! Those toons and armour, dammit EVERYTHING looks so everquestish.

Perhaps you should read further on and he explains the graphics and whats going on with them!
Another batch of screenshots. These are in-progress and not done, but give a sneak peak as to what's being worked on, especially parts of Thestra that are being made more fantasy and exotic looking.
Please do keep in mind that everything isn't done here -- this is a sneak peak at some of the variety and new places coming soon (and not so soon) -- more complete shots of *some* of these areas will be released more officially in the coming months. In other words, you are not always seeing the final textures, shaders, lighting, etc. But I still think it gives a pretty neat look into the future and the variety of areas that are being created. Feel free to compare these and other more recent screenshots and movies to our earlier screenshots (we've been releasing them for a couple of years now). You'll not only see our artists improving, getting more efficient themselves and our tools improving, but also the engine lighting and displaying things a LOT better. There's a lot of progress there. But one of the most important things to note, IMHO, is the variety of environments. If you look at these, the previous batch of In Progress shots, and some of the more recent movies, the variety is incredible.
One of the concerns, and we felt it early on too, is how do you fill such a large and seamless world, especially one without Instancing, with interesting places that look very different. In fact, we were rightfully criticized early on with comments like 'too brown' or 'the mini-dungeons look too much the same', etc. Well, this has been addressed and we're only getting better. By launch the world will be absolutely incredible, and then after launch, with the areas we have planned -- the contrast and imagination involved goes to the next step. Vanguard is in this for the long haul -- it's all about exploration, character advancement (and various options of advancement), community building, and longevity (tons of content, variety, a focus on exploration and meaningful travel, replayability (we expect less 'alts' and more primary characters in fact)).
Unfortunately, I can't I really comment on the shots (e.g. tell you where they are, other than the hints about some of these being part of the re-visited Thestra). You're getting a sneak peak at some pretty crazy places, different level ranges, etc. Again, we don't want to spoil the game, but we do need to get the message out that we've solved the 'boring' seamless world problem. The only thing lacking in these shots is population because these areas, especially some, won't be live until well into beta 4. So, I hope you enjoy the sneak peak

Enjoy the sneak peak -- I'll do these occasionally -- once or twice a month, although there is much we will not show as to not spoil the game either.
ps. my favorite is #18, especially since I know what that place used to look like. Wow! (and I don't mean WoW)

I know that Brad would never bring this argument... But just as Nintendo says about the Wii...gameplay is what matter the most.
I just wish he coulds understand and make a non-raiding server...well, I can always complain online if he don't!

I wonder if Brad will be able to back up his ****.
I just hope that world will be "fluid" (sp) like let's say WoW. WoW has one of the best animations in MMORPG tbh. They just keep on going and going. My only fear is that VSoH will have animations like SWG... That was poor.
I just seen the new vids
and they look , well
breathtaking...

The the most impossible thing to get your head around it the 'its beta' argument. Those pics can get he bestest year 3000 shadows and lighting, the characters still look like shit. Plastic, unorganic and pitiful graphics.
I hope vanguard have some awsome gameplay cus the graphics sure is going to suck monkey balls.
WTH is this:

HAHAHA. It takes some serious delusional abilities to still 'belive' the graphics will magicaly be any better come release. God damn, even the animation looks stiff and bad on thease pics. I dont know how I know it, just look at them and picture them in action.

I remember in the early days of SWG, people complained about it being a big empty world. Because it was. So SOE did a screen shot collection of "points of interest." Points of interest would be things like the ruins of some structure, or a gnarled tree, or a skull on the ground - you get the idea. If you put them all together it almost looked like the world had content.
Of course, there was nothing to do at these places other than fight whatever wandering trash was in the area. Nothing special spawned there. There was no quest there. Just miscellaneous art assets scattered across a barren landscape like Johnny Appleseed.
You don't avoid the big empty world criticism by sending an artist out with a virtual paintbrush to draw whatsits. Vanguard may be physically big, but like SWG it will play small. In EQ, if something was in the world, it had a reason to be there and associated content. The same is true of WoW. This, well, enjoy taking a picture next to an art asset.

didnt read the thread to the end as it was just a lot of wauw nice screenshots, ohhh that looks great. I started getting worried as noone saw anything 'wrong'.
I really like the Elf girl there. She looks great imho. And texture on pants of caster in front is also nice. Tho rest of the chars look more or less like crap
I just literally spit out my coffee when I read this.
I am looking forward to the game...but this my friend, was funny.
The guy that is kicking. That is a side kick and he is using the knife edge of his foot. The kick is correct and the angle of his ankle is just fine.
It concentrats the power of your kick into a much smaller area.
Simular to a round house kick where some people will bend their toes back and hit with the ball of their foot and others like to point their toes forware and hit the target with the top of their foot.
I like to use the ball of my foot because once again, it focuses the force of your kick into a much smaller impact area (and I am afraid the other way has a higher chance to break a toe!!) .
The overall graphics look pretty dated however, but we all know that GRAPHICS DO NOT MAKE A FUN GAME so we will have to just wait and see.
but it dosnt hurt. if your one of the few that ever played horizons you willl know what a small playerbase can hurt a game to the point of collaps. and a small player base, long development time could in the worst senario end up with a game with little to no supoort / updates along the way.
