Ehh. If it actually gets anywhere I'll be more interested. Governments think about a lot of things that never get off the ground.
You've got to justify your employment by doing SOMETHING right?

If it actually gets momentum, I wouldn't like it. Not because of the virtual-ness of the goods in question but because it seems like they're already taxing those transactions a couple of times. Sales tax, income tax, coporate taxes... I mean, sure if I made a profit on selling a piece of property in Second Life then its income and it goes on my return, I guess. Having property tax or something on virtual property is what sounds crazy to me. How would you even assess the value of a virtual plot of land? Average between the market value and nothing (should the company close down the servers)?

my guess would be just adding on the poster child, for your benefit

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Interesting read, but I don't think it will ever apply to normal MMORPGs.

How would the government be paid, in Gold?

I can see it now, little Goblin Tax Assesors in all Capital Cities.
An annual Tax day event, where you had to submit your tax forms. A quest, that doesn't grant XP, but costs gold?

I just don't see it happening. Now, can they tax any income that people make by buying and selling items on websites like ebay or gold selling sites? Sure. Not in game.
