No wurms here

I started playing in beta about 2 months before Wurm Online went Gold.  I wanted a free game to play that would end my addiction to Rune Scape and Anarchy Online and Wurm did that to some extent. What is wurm? There are no wurms in Wurm Online, the game is based on reality and has a small fantasy portion.  You start out in a place called New Town where you can get started you have some basic tools in your inventory to get your started.

This is a first person view mode game you can walk for hours in any direction all items in the game are player made from Walls, Houses, Farms, Guard towers, Catapults and many other things.  You can terraform the terrain turn sloping hills into flat places suitable to farm or build a village on. you can create ponds fountains mines that actually burrow into the terrain landscape these mine tunnels can streach for very long dintances to bridge 2 towns for  easy travel.  The game allows you to build roads so you can drag your wooden carts will all your items so you can trade with other villages you can also use a raft to transport your items.

Beastiary of wurm is unique.  Chickens lay eggs and a few days later those eggs hatch into little chickens. You can have a pet to help you hunt or for defence.  Hunting is lots of fun there are no maps ingame only those that are player made some times you can be lost for hours where its a strugle to survive on your own with the tools you have you can kill a cow butcher the animal cook the meat over a fire use the animal hide to make leahter and use some animals parts to make healing covers, of course when you die you lose every thing you have :)

The brutality of wurm.  Any one in this game can murder you at any time so watch you mouth.  Theives can take your items and animals when you are not online but you can track there foot steps and give them hell.  The is some Griefing like players building walls around your house so you cant getout but most of these broblems are resolved by the GM's.

Development: From what i know they are 2 Developers, "Notch"  is the game client Dev and "Rolf" is the server code Dev.  There is a art team but i think its 1 or 2 persons they do all the textures and some modeling.  We have Like 5 GM's "Unforgiven"  is the head GM and under him is the Oracle, Who, Commcd, Kilean and there is a evil chick who moderates the forums called Egal  j/k plz dont kill me.

PROBLEMS WITH WURM.  I love this game because there is nothing like it out there so far. No animations. Crapy sound. Devs on a Nerf spree. F bombs in the golbal chat. people murdering other people over stupid things.

Yeah, there really is nothing out there like this game.

It's pretty much exactly what I've been looking for, ever since I stopped playing MUDs...

Player driven economy, everything, including towns are player built. Skill based advancement.

unfortunately, it isn't finished. The char animations really do detract
from the playing experience, and so does the total lack of sound.

Nonetheless, the parts that are finished look pretty good. Game seems
to work with no major bugs (at this point) game mechanics are well
    thought out.

As it is, I'm more then willing to throw some money at the project, in the hope that it helps it improve it.

Hell, if I was still working full time, I'd be willing to invest
even more then their $7 a month premium price. As it is, I'm more then
willing to pay that much, and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Very good post logan, all the points he has made are correct. image

If you want to have a sense of accomplishment when you log out, this is the game for you. There a lot of skills, and tons of things for you to try out and make. The game is not finished, it needs quite a few key elements of a retail ready game, such as character customization, everyone looks the same! No animations, I have no problem with the no animations when you cut down a tree, but when I see people walking I don't want to see them gliding around. The game use to have more sounds in beta, such as birds, water sounds, etc. About a month before the game went retail they introduced a new client, it has improved graphics, and supposedly is going to support all of these new features they have been promising. I dont think they have had the time to reimplement everything from the old client or new content. In my opinion, the client was a success, but, it has become to big of a burden on the devs, they are overwhelmed with things to do, plus they have a real life, job, family, etc.

Well blah blah to my post that is my opinion I go now.

Well, maybe enough people will become paying members in the next little
while that at least one of them will be able to quit their job and work
on this full time. Or maybe they can hire someone who doesn't have a
job, to work full time on it.

I'd love to see this turn into a real game.
