SWG Crafting

I absolutely loved swg crafting system pre-cu, for example i loved how you could start with 10k, buy a solar energy gather, wait, sell your energy, repeat, buy more, and before you know it you have a major power company with contracts to provide power all over the planet, this is simply my favorite aspect of swg, as of right now i have yet to play the "new" swg so can anyone tell me if this is still possbile? i heard somewhere that its not becuase of decay rates or something? and second if its not what mmorpgs have similar aspects? only ones i looked into so far are dark and light (which sucks) and second life (little too real)

Economy's dead (disregarding Obraik's "I still sell armor" protests), crafting's useless. I hear Saga of Ryzom has a decent crafting system, though.

The mechanics of crafting haven't been changed, youstill craft the same way you did pre-nge and you still can harvest resources the same you did pre-nge.

There is a crafting revamp in the works, which the devs say won't overly change the mechanics of crafting in SWG but should bring their goods more inline with how the game works now.  Even without a revamp, Weaponsmith is really the only profession that has no use due to quest weapons being better then crafted and there is no decay anymore.  Pretty much everything else is better from crafters, and alot of things you can only get from a crafter.

Economy is FAR from dead buddy, maybe you should play the game before uttering such blatant lies.

eBay re-sellers stopped offering SWG currency. While there can be different reasons for that, it simply means that demand for SWG money is 0. For all practical purposes that means economy is dead.

Unfortunately, there are 508 credit auctions on eBay at the moment...

Embarrassing to say the least. Did you even spend the 10 seconds it takes to check ebay to verify your sources? Just because a single reseller stopped selling swg credits for whatever reason doesnt mean demand is 0 there buddy. Next.

From levels one to thirty, I didn't buy a single item off the market. I might have needed something later on, but I couldn't stomach the game any longer than that. I tried finding better equipment, but everything on there was far worse then what the quests give out. The bazaars had barely anything on them (and I played on Bria). It's dead and I made more money in two days than I did in the year I played during the pre-CU days. All over the official boards there are people talking about how they have all this money, but nothing to buy. And with the trial out, we've all seen it for ourselves. Your bullshit's not fooling anybody.

I've also heard that Ryzom has a crafting design very similar to the original version of SWG.  I've not tried it yet.

Second Life is awesome if you like that element of interaction.  SL is a true MMORPG even though it's an absolutely open sandbox waiting for players to provide the content most expect to recieve when paying a subscription hence you can play SL for free.  I tried SL for about 2 months for an hour or so a night and felt it was too much of a "online chat" interface then a multi media gaming experiance.  My only dissapointment about SL is I wasn't able to get my avatar's breasts larger then the allowable limits of the avatar.  :(

If you're seeking "dynamics" as you express I would advise putting a reasonable amount of time into EVE Online.  That game is more diverse, dynamic and supportive of the "crafting" environment you seak then the original SWG was.

    Few notes with EVE Online:

    1. very steep learning curve and lots of reading
    2. does not cater to "noob" mentalities
    3. no silver spoon
    4. harsh gaming environment which dictates a true Risk v. Reward
    5. all items, modules, ships and characters (ie, clones) are consumables!
    6. Must have Windows XP sp2 installed in order to play
    7. Strenuous logistical aspects which create a feel of a massive environment
    8. New players *MUST* complete the new player tutorial or *will* be out of touch of the game

If you find your self constantly traveling more then 6 jumps in EVE then you are doing something wrong unless you *actually* intended to make the exhausting routes of travel.  Think about walking out to hunt Krayts with a novice marksman or exploring POI's on Dathomir as a novice marksman.  EVE does not hold your hand...

    Haven#t
played for a year now. I am pre-cu / pre NGE Master Armorsmith so
please answer a few questions so you can judge about economy:

    - Is Bio Engineer back in game to craft Tailor upgrades?

    - Are there clothing attachments back in game or something else so Tailors have a reason to craft 4 socket clothing?

    - Is decay back in game for clothing / armor so people need ot rebuy armor often?

    - Is loot drop on weapons and armor removed / reduced so players craft the best available armor / weapons again?

    - Can a character unite a crafter and harvester (ranger) in one person

Starwars Galaxies one had a COMPLETE player controlled economy. That
got removed with loot drops, remove of decay and single profession
characters. Do not call this new system "economy", makes me cry.

I have heard nothing about additives or tissues coming back.  I have a Master Chef who was also BE.  But the trader revamp is suppose to give the ability to remove tapes/AAs from looted clothes and apply them to crafted ones.  This would put crafted armor/clothes ahead of looted, because crafted has such better resist.  I use crafted armor on my BH now and  looted mod jewlery.  Everyone gets at least two toons for each server now, so while sadly you cant have a crafter/ranger, you can have a crafter and a harvester on the same server with only one account now.  And the crafting systems is still the best around.

I played SORysom for awhile, it is a good game indeed, but its crafting isnt close to SWGs.  There are set qualities for resources and no experimentation or harvestors or factories as of March 06.  But it is a player controlled economy, all the items are crafted, except maybe a few starter items and the community was great.  And you can learn every skill available if you take the time.  I havent played rings yet, but I hear good things about it.

As for the economyin SWG, my food sells well and I make Mustafar stims from the glowies, they sell good also.  And there has never been a problem selling spaceparts ( ACE Imp pilot ).  Of course, looted weapons and looted multi-stated wearables sell good, but I dont like them being in the game either.

Anyone ever had space combat in EVE, I played EVE for a couple of months, after playing SWG, I would say the combat is much better in SWG you actually have to aim and fly your ship,  with EVE it is point and click to move and select target to fire. And of course no ground combat, I really didnt like EVE alot, but it has a good rating so alot do like it I would guess.
