I have an idea. Let's all wait 2-3 years before playing this game. By then they will have made computers that can run it as intended. No thanks to playing a choppy, laggy, crashy game so that Sigil can say they are ahead of their time.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

you really dont have any kind of clue what your talking about do you? you can set framrate to anything you want after you capture a video
I believe he meant the capture program only takes 14 frames per second not the actual video.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

That's a really big consideration, really. EQ2 was built so it could stay fresh in a couple of years as technology advances. The crux, however, is that because the average computer couldn't play it but for "high performance" or less settings instead of the balanced or prettier settings, it didn't grab huge numbers compared to WoW which plays easily on anyone's laptop. People had to run EQ2 on such low settings in order to run into the towns, that the game was just damned ugly. The pretty graphics were wasted on the opening gate because few could play with settings high enough to see how pretty it is. By the time the technology and everyone's computer upgrades catch up to EQ2, there won't be that huge player base anymore. And no game is worth dropping hundreds if not thousands of dollars on in order to be able to run your character through a heavy poplulated town in a game.
By the time everyone waits the 2-3 years before playing the game when they've got computers that can use the settings with great visual quality, the game will be long forgotten. EQLive went on for years because it had very little competition. Vanguard and all the other games coming out have huge competition and will continue to have competition. In 2-3 years who will want to try out a 3 year old game when there's another dozen brand new games on the shelf, games that are all shiny and new and ready to play at max settings
eq2 is va fine game, they definatly used the tech to there adbvantage with expansions, yeah eq2 the basics is ''blah'' but as expansions came out the color and beuty really shows, i dont think many people that say eq2 graffix are blah have tried kos, the beuty inside poa, and the labs and such are stunning, and it is a whole hearted compliment to say vanguard is in the evolution line and inspired by the eq series. i cant wait too try it.
Just promise if you guys do become the next Daddy of the MMO market you will not treat your customers just like a number such as what Blizzard likes to do these days (shhh Blizz Fanboi I hear your rumblings).
I would be interested in trying this game if Sony Online Entertainment was not attached in any way. Becuase of their ill will towards their paying customers and the total disregard for consumer rights I will avoid this game along with EVERYTHING associated with SOE.
Good luck on the game. If SOE's reputation follows you at launch you're game is going to tank.
Hey all! I'm usually a lurker of fohguild, silkyvenom, and vanguardsoh, but I had a day off of classes (yah ok I skipped) and decided to stroll around to see what other people thought of vanguard and tbc instead of just getting opinions from extremists.
Anyways, there were a few quotes I did see in the last few pages that I'd like to address since I feel some of you may be getting the wrong information as the "statements thrown as fact" in the last few pages as to my knowledge have either a)not been confirmed by sigil or b)have been stated as the exact opposite as what sigil has confirmed to.

doesn't work here so I'm using red for people I'm quoting and orange for my responses.

While I'd love to play Vanguard:SoH the system requirements have me worried. I'd hate to have to run it on something like 800x600 resolution just to be able to move. While right now I have a "decent" computer by the time this comes out I'll need a new one to play it. Honestly nothing I do will require a new computer other then Vanguard. So I think to myself is Vanguard worth $2000? I think not.....But damn how I'd love to play this game....

I've got a few rl friends in beta that go to school with me at Iowa State and one of them has a similar setup to yours and as it stands now he can play just fine in VG Beta. He says some of the cities are still a bit choppy, but he's done plenty of groups where theres been 6 people on the screen and he's been able to play it without the screen turning into a slideshow. With this information + the fact that theres still months to go + one of sigil's highest priorities is optimization allows me to have confidence that the game will be playable on average systems by launch day.

Vanguard on the other hand is a game made by an elitist hack who thinks people want their game to be slow, grindey and HARD. We'll see.
I don't know if you have read any of Brad's posts, but if you have time and/or are bored you might try going to silkyvenom.com, clicking the dev tracker link and then filtering out Aradne Mithara's posts. There are several times he talks about grinding as one of the big "regrets" of eq1. Although many sigil devs have said countless times that the game will require longer time to level, they also hit hard on the point (usually in the same paragraph) that they do not believe tedious game play is the way to make the levels longer. There are a lot of neat content ideas that Sigil has implemented to battle camping/grinding. One example is this dynamic quest system they've set up where let's say you find some random item on the ground in a dungeon while killing with a group that starts a quest. It then uses some cool roleplay effects ("a mysterious voice summons you to the east" etc) to get your group to start killing mobs to follow this voice where you end up killing a few mobs along the way that progresses the quest through more drops; and from there it keeps unfolding until eventually a boss mob spawns JUST for your group. Then, you have some kickass loot or you might finish a quest for great loot, and you got all that exp along the way! An idea like this, if properly implemented could easily remove the idea of sitting in one spot grinding (who doesnt like a great dungeon crawl!), and it could help curb the idea of overcrowded areas since several groups could be along different progression paths allowing for tons of groups to be in the same dungeon at once.....ALL at the same time allowing for non-instanced dungeons which promotes community growth by meeting new people.
Either way, I just wanted to point out that while the game IS going to take longer to level, that *doesnt* mean it's going to be a pure boring grind fest.
defafnyr I'm just not into the corpse run and having to do things the hard way because I'm a casual gamer and my gaming time is restricted by other RL responsibilities.
Dunno how much info has been released because I get glimpses into beta stuff from rl friends and I read stuff on sv and foh and all these other places so it's kind of a blurr so if I'm breaking the NDA I'll take this part out.
But as of know there is a dynamic death system where depending on what type of mob you die to, there are different death penalties. The whole naked CR, die 10x on the way back to your corpse, log off in frustration is somewhat non-existant in VG. I won't get too much into detail since the consequence for dying to different "difficulty type" is still changing a lot, but here's a rough idea.
Say there are 5 different types of mobs you could die to. 1 being the easiest (a green mob that you died to because you were afk going pee) or 6 being the hardest (multi group mob deep in a dungeon.) If you die to a Type 1 mob you won't have NEAR the death penalty as a Type 2 mob. It's a pretty neat idea. It forces you to think about what youre doing so you dont just die and then rez at the nearest spirit rezzer because its "faster" but it also doesn't force you to spend hours CRing for one stupid mistake.
mindspat I would be interested in trying this game if Sony Online Entertainment was not attached in any way. Becuase of their ill will towards their paying customers and the total disregard for consumer rights I will avoid this game along with EVERYTHING associated with SOE.
I know Sony is the new devil that has somehow taken Microsoft's devil throne and we must now refer to this company as $ony, but try not to panic! SOE is *not* in any way shape or form developing the game OR (and here's the important line) handling customer service issues outside of tech support What does this mean to you? It means that while youre playing the game if you have a issue with someone griefing you, you will be talking to a SIGIL employee not SOE. However, if you have a patching issue or some sort of driver/hardware issue then you will probably end up talking to someone on their end since they are handling the servers.
Also with SOE not in charge of development that means Sigil will be controlling all the cool stuff like when patches will be released, content updates, etc. Let us also not forget that the Microsoft->SOE transformation actually gave Sigil *more* control over their game which in turn allowed -more- time for the game to stay in development and will now allow the game to be more polished upon release. Man if you really think about it the co-publishing thing sigil has set up is really a positive move with all the points I've listed. I know for a lot of you this is an issue that has been beat into the ground, especially if you surf the soh boards but for anyone new I just thought it'd be good to clarify that.
Anyways, that being said: I'll *PROBABLY* be playing Vanguard, but I am also purchasing TBC when it comes out. It's never really been a matter of game play for me *as much* as it's been an issue of what games my friends will be playing. Right now it's kinda split so I'll buy both and see where all my friends end up after a few months

That's like saying my girlfriend is ugly but once you get done putting makeup on her and get a few beers in me I really like her...
I bet the game looks a lot worse at playable settings. (I think they were only getting maybe 18-20fps in that vid. Probably on a high end machine.) Get ready to purchase a $2000+ computer to play this piece of crap. Make sure you buy a really big hdd since it's going to be super bloated (30gb) too.
