youtube sold for 1.6 billion = a joke

I don't know who the hell is making decisions like that at google but someone seriously needs to be fired. That youtube junk wasn't worth anywhere near 1.6 billion dollars.  It wasn't making any $ for one and was only online for maybe 2 years..

Hell even Myspace which was a hell of alot bigger was sold for 400 million..

They could of offered those two guys only 10 million and they would of taken that offer. Freakin amazingggggggggggg

agree but theres some pretty good stuff on utube  u have to admitt
but seriously google needs a good smack over the head so they start
thinkin about reality instead of about the computer land they live in.

(google is a bunch of computer nerds who have nothin to do in life
except sit infront of a screen all day buyin stuff for stupid prices)

Actually youtube has a very large community and a lot of visitors every day. They gain money from ads. How else do you think they would be able to maintain such a service?

Google is taking out the competition, ensuring that community views ads they gain money from.

  This wasn't a good buy, but a good sale.  From what I'm hearing there is already things changing.  People are being perma banned for uploading anime and other content which may or may not be licensed. 

   YouTube = Napster , most of the content people tune in to watch is copyrighted or licensed and it seems once google shuts that part of it down its going to die.

Great. I love Youtube, and I hate Google Video. I give it a month before Google starts charging a subscription charge to view videos.

Youtube was/is the biggest video sharing site on the internet, so yes, it's worth every penny.

  K, it seems first thing google did is take down 30k videos of japanese origin because some japanese artist organization complained.  Good move google lol. This puppy is gonna sink people, you heard it from me first.

Nah, I heard it back when the buyout was still tentative.

Honestly though, big deal...Google isn't letting people illegally upload copyrighted material...boo freaking hoo.  I think it's amazing how many people feel that they should be able to download anything and everything for free just because it's the internet.  We have become so spoiled by things like YouTube that we forget that it's actually breaking copyright laws.

  90% of crap on youtube that is watchable is copyrighted material, be it the daily show or clips from a bush speech.

 actualy youtube wasn't very profitable at all before the sale and I could find you the quote in an interview with one of the owners. It wasn't making any profit.

Youtube can now be used for advertisement. The original owners never used youtube for that, Google can.

youtube is completely useless as an advertising tool. 90% of the traffic to a site like that is underage teenagers or just bums that won't give a rats ass about their ads. The only reason they bought it was because it had 40%+ of the entire internets video traffic...

it would probably take the next 20 years to recoupe 1.6 billion dollars from ad sales off of youtube.

please, think a little first.

    Advertising online and its effectivness is questionable at best. Whens the last time you heard someone say "Hey you know that ad on that website"  Unlike TV ads, which are proven to work because tons of people watches them, and can actually recognize them , internet advertising needs to be specifically targeted.  Hell most people totally ignore ads online.

Google doesnt care rats ass how many actually get hooked by an ad in their webpage. Other companies pay the bucks for those ads. Anyway, buyin youtube is just a part of a bigger picture, Google wants to build up muscles by buying other companies that work in the same business, teh interweb. Theres nothing new here, same happens everyday in business world.
