I have been playing the online games for awihle but I seemed to have skipped the EQ line, so what is the difference between the two games.  And is anyone still playing either?

    Ohh, it's a big difference.

Don't know really were to begin.

EQ, DAoC, Shadowbane, AC1 a.s.o. had same thing in common; The game have much more RPG element than the "new ones". Personaly I Love the old ones. The new ones feels so "easy".

Well, bad time for me try to explain the difference. But if you have time. try EQ. Think it's free up to the sixth expansion or something like that =).

EQ is/was an amazing game, with a ton of depth.

    EQ2 isn't amazing.

    EQ: Grind, Grind, Grind

    EQ2: Fun, Fun, Fun

Of the two I would have to rate the original EQ as a superior game.

EQ 2 reminds me of a politically correct EQ, no death penalty to speak of, vanilla classes, very easy, too fast leveling.

I could go on but I think you get my point.

    EQ = Raid

EQ2 = Guilds (raiding is merely something guilds do)

EQ has 12 expansions and a lot more content.  EQ2 is more refined in some stuff, yet it abandon some concepts and ideas.  EQ is raw.

Both games are similar in that aspect that they build a LOT before getting where they are, thereby if you play EQ, you won't have any raid for a LONG time, eventually it will come on you, as a slap or as a blessing, depend on how you personnally feels about raiding.  In both games, you will see SOME soloing or grouping, but all these are pointless in the end as it lead to the devs goals, which is either raiding or guild.  The individual is nothing in both games...or more precisely, the individual is merely a tool for raiding or guild.  If you are not well versed in self sacrifice for a greater goal, then neither game is for you.

There really isn't that much of a difference I feel between the two games.

Everquest 2 has better graphics clearly. However it's arguable if that's a good thing or not since it does really affect your game performance if you don't find the right combintation of settings depending on what your computer system is like.

Both end up being work as your level. The grind is still there. However EQ1 has made it somewhat easier as a result of being out longer. Both are very top heavy in terms of population though. So it can be very frustationg to find groups at lower levels forcing you to solo at times. Twinking is heavy in both games but EQ2 is better at it due to level requirement on equipment but it's more of an issue on combat abilities and spells. Where EQ1 is more equipment and weapon focused in terms of handing down equipment.

Money is harder to get in EQ2 I feel until you get to the high levels. It's only once you get into the high 30s or low 40s I feel that you honestly start getting items that sell for decent amounts of money and even then can be a problem. You do have an easier time of it in EQ1 at much earlier levels by comparison I think.

Class setup is better in Everquest 1 I feel. I know that might sound strange in that EQ2 gives you more options. However I think that can be in a problem itself. They should have given characters more of an options instead of more classes. That's just a very personal opinion I feel.

Both worlds are two big for their own good. Lot of areas go unused cause there are few areas that are really effective in terms of leveling. This is a design problem not so much of a player problem though. If devs would actually play the game they make they would realize why people tend to flock to certain areas and would top filling up other areas.

Soloing is better in EQ1 I feel. Solo mobs are grouped with grouped ones in EQ2 I've noticed. Or they are multi mob enconters. This is a HUGE problem if are a caster. While the grouped solo encounters are suppose to be treated as one mob you still are getting hit a LOT more and you can't get spells off. There are other problems with this as well I think.

Spell system is better in EQ1. I dislike the different levels of a single spell. I'd rather buy one version and have it's damage and effectiveness go up as a I level and be based on my Int or Wis. More simpler that way then having to worry about getting adepts or masters of spells. That's just more of a time sink. Same for combat abilities.

If I had to pick from the two again I'd go with Everquest 1 but that still it's not without it's own problems. Can't take the grinds anyway.

while i understand and respect ur opinion, Effect.  i completely disagree with most of what u said.  i havent grinded yet in EQII, i do quests alot.  im lvl 20 pally and 19 scholar.  money is super easy for me to come by, not had any probs grouping or soloing.  graphicly, i have everything set on max at 1200x1000 res, and dont have any probs with it, and i dont have a powerhouse pc and graphics card.  in fact, me puter is 3 yrs old.

i do agree with the wide open unused areas of space tho.  there is a huge area in Ant that is completely empty with only a few bees here and there, but thats not really a big prob if u ask me. me biggest issue so far is also something that i cant blame some1 else for, i chose to play on a pvp server, so everytime i walk out the front gates into Ant, i get dead almost immediately (still low lvl).  and even if i am able to kill me asailent, he usually just goes and gets a couple of his higher lvl friends and comes back to hunt me down, as if i did him an injustice by not dying when he attacked me, lol.  anyway, like i said, i cant really complain about it, i chose to play on a pvp server.

and lastly, i like the complexity of EQII, and EQ1 for that matter.  i hate the simple systems.  i used to play f2p games like Knight online and Hero online.  now those r simple games, no depth at all.  i want a game that makes me think and work out details.  just me own opinion.

again, i understand and respect ur opinion.  and am in no way telling u that ur wrong or stupid.  just sharing me own opinion on this topic.  ty for reading.

Eq1 you have depth in lore, gameplay, scenery ect.

    Eq2 you do not.

Eq1 takes alot of time to get through that is no secret, but it makes up for it by giving you plenty to do through out all the levels.

Eq2 is pretty sparse and most people are just waiting for EoF expansion hoping it will livin the game up.

I personally prefer EQ2. Most of the problems (such as trains, they follow one person/group only and when they break off, they don't aggro until they're back to their original positions so one person can't kill the whole zone by being a jerk) have been removed.

It's also incredibly beautiful. I was swimming in the ocean one day, between the mainland of Antonica and the Qeynosian gates, and someone started to talk to me in real life so my mouse slipped because I wasn't paying attention.

When I looked back at the screen, I noticed something I've never seen in any other game. An incredibly beautiful reflection of the moon just like you'd see in real life. And it was rippling as the water moved through it when my character moved to swim in place.

Never in my life has my breath caught when looking at a game. Until that moment. It just looked so real. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

Look at the sky. The stars twinkle and it doesn't look mechanical. It looks real.

I know people say that the characters look plastic. Which is something I don't really mind because everything else is so beautiful, it more than makes up for it.

EQ1, everything is amazingly primitive in comparison. Even the quest system isn't nearly as good. And there are ample oppurtunities to grief each other in that game.

    EQ2 is better.

about that reflection on the water, if u got a screenshot, id like to see it.

Yeah, I feel like an idiot, I didn't take a screen shot. I'll see if I can recreate the event though. I was just kicking myself after because I'd like to have that on my desktop as the background.

    I reported you too.

How many reports do you think it's going to take before you get banned? And you have no one to blame but yourself.

Biggest difference between eq1 and eq2:

I EQ1 you need to spend a lot of time playing to get anywhere. EQ2 you can startup play for an hour and you are making progress. I rather spend more time and need to work hard then being treated like a noob.

They are in stage 3 now. I had two beta accounts but sold them both due to the fact that SoE was getting a part of my own money again.
