Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa

Does anyone have a clue when this game is expected to make its first hearing???

I heard that Lord British and Starr were working on this title for quite a time.

I just can't wait to know about what this game is about.....

I heard they are trying to make this title top secret till the release.

Trying to follow Richard is kinda hard. Two years ago at E3 he said he was a year in on a 3 year development cycle of Tabula Rasa (TR for short here on out). Of course, he has also been working with the Lineage team. He has also been working as a consultant for CoH. Here's a quote from Garriott at E3 in 2002 comparing CoH to TR:

Well, we have a world editor that will have objects and tunnel pieces and trigger events, and each time we build one we’ll custom connect the tunnel pieces together, or outdoor pieces together, and custom put out NPCs, put down treasure events, to where that scenario was very carefully designed. The way the City of Heroes people are doing it, is that they’re building adventures based on modular parts that are in some automated way strung together so that they can create content as fast as people consume it. So if you go and have a party of five, level X players, and you want to go on a kill the bad guy mission – the game decides that it should be this long, this scale of bad guys, and so they will spawn that space automatically. So the strength is that there will be a lot of diversity. The challenge for them will be to make sure they still feel compelling. I think that ours will be easy to make compelling, but it will be hard for us to create enough diversity.
He was also interviewed by RPGDot last June.

I'm kind of looking forward to see what he is coming up with. I'm just thinking that that 3 year cycle will turn into a five year cycle. Otherwise, that three year cycle should be ending and we would be hearing something right now.

Unfortunately, there is little information out there about TR, save what has been posted in this thread.  Garriott and his brother founded a company called Destination Games after he left Origin.  Destination was acquired by NCsoft and their URL (www.destination-games.com) redirects to the corporate info tab of the Lineage page.  I believe Destination is now officially called NCsoft Austin.

The only reference I could find to Tabula Rasa was on Starr Long's bio page:

"Starr and Richard Garriott are currently collaborating on the much-anticipated MMORPG Tabula Rasa."

Hmmmmmm...this is kind of a challenge image

After seeing everything from Meridian 59 to SWG launch I for one would be happy to see less hype and more heads down, butts up from the developers.

If Garriot is working furiously on somthing chances are it will be at least half worth playing, sure hes made a few boos... but generally I have enjoyed everything hes been involved with. I only recently sold my 2 UO accounts one of which was 6.5 years old.image

Still cant help wondering what TR is gonna be like though lol

Only boos he made was Ultima 8 and 9, but wasn't his fault. You have to blame that on EA. Garriott is the only name out there in the MMORPG world that would make me wake up and pay attention.

Does anyone even remember the first Ultima in the 80's on the old 286/386 PC?

I'm telling you guys that game literally was my first RPG ever on PC. Thinking about it brings all the good childwood memories.
