I think we have to remeber that EULA is not the end all be all of any future grievances.
Um, no. I think we all need to remember if you agree to something you agree to all of it and not just pick and choose what you like. It's a video game, not something you can't live without, not a basic necisity of life. If you don't agree with it then you simply don't play/buy it.
This is exactly what I am talking about. The EULA is a handshake agreement that says if you want to play in my court you play by my rules. Agreements are not like shopping malls, you can't pick alittle of this and alittle of that. How exactly did you expect anyone to take you seriously with this "organization" you are forming when you make statements like that? Ya, you will get real far...
I'm stil trying to wrap my head around what your trying to say here.
Are you saying that a EULA is ""Iron Clad"? Or are you saying that a company can do whatever it wants because they say so in the user agreement?
In either case, then you and I just don't agree. What that has do with rlmmo, I do not understand.
Hmm... I seem to be on their Persona Non Grata list despite getting their spam. Tried all 4 of my former accounts and it says that I need a subscription.
Well, I'm not going to pay them to play this steaming pile of crap (hence why I unsubbed to begin with).
Methinks some of their most vocal critics have been "deleted" from the list of trial users.

I haven't received it either, tho I do get the SWG newsletters. There have been some previous "come back and try it now!" offers (which I also didn't get), but those were always excluded accounts that closed after NGE went live. This one doesn't say that.

Does SOE deserve it? Absolutely! The things they did back in November 2005 are awful.
BUT:
They've learned their lesson. The last 3 updates have been based on player feedback and wishes. Ideas were scrapped due to players not wanting them, others were added due to popular demand.
Smugglers can finally smuggle, a new gcw system has been added, BH can now hunt smugglers when these are doing their most difficult missions, player bases are back, autoaiming is back. They've even added a sort of force rank system, except now its a galactic civil war system where you can gain and lose rank (and additional abilities) by participating in the galatic civil war.
Is it the same game as pre NGE? No. But imho opinion (and I've tried lots after the NGE disaster) after the last few updates this is the best MMORPG out there.

None of what they have done matters. Have they restored mix and match profession system? Have they restored a fully function player driven economy, have they restored Jedi to a earned system? Have they even bothered to put tents back in?
The game is still headed in the wrong direction. All hope for SWG is lost. About the best we can expect is for it to shut down.

No you don't have to respect them. You don't even have to continue to pay them, however as long as you are in their creation which is owned by them you do have to abide by their rules.
You don't like the rules anymore, you leave. Enough people leave they get the message and probably won 't make the same mistake a second time or they go under because they have lost buyer confidence. The problem here is everyone wants immediate retribution, they don't have the patience to wait for nature to take it's course. It's about what you want now.
Um, someone made you move by putting harvestors around your house? Sorry, I really don't see the issue there. My suggestion would be to get into a PA. Griefing is a huge gray area and a judgement call and I really wouldn't consider that griefing.
And I am sorry but to sit and devalidate people just because they play now and you aren't happy about it is wrong. Take it out on SOE and LEC, NOT the players.
Enough people did leave. Any other business would have said "Dang we need to bring back classic servers quick" but SOE is illogical. I am almost willing to bet there could be just two old men and dog named Colin playing that game and they would still keep going and act like SWG its the greatest game ever. There are times I think they actually believe that garbage they spout all the time.
What your dealing with here is just how far people have to go to be heard. This is the internet. Everyone that plays or played this game live all over the world. So getting a few hundred thousand people to do a march on SOE in Austin is pretty much out. You cant protest on the forums because they lock or delete any negative threads. Protesting here isnt going to work because I seriously doubt Smed or his cronies even come here. We tried leaving and still they go on. There is really only one place you can do it. In the game. Yah some players might see it. But anything bad happens to SOE was brought on by SOE itself.
Protesting the NGE isnt taking it out on the players. The target isnt the players. No one is forcing them to read someone's protests. Yes some might see it. "Oh dear god no. Some player saw someone else's protest message on a harv. Quick call the police!" I dont think so. Welcome to reality Fadeus. Sometimes the only way to affect change will upset someone. Sad but true. If your going to stop trying to do something because one person might get upset then you might as well give up and never try to do anything. Because guess what? No matter what you do....someone could get upset.
They raised the bar on this. Not us. They turned a minor "set to" into a full blown bar room brawl. As long as we play by their rules they will always win and we will not get anywhere. You are partly right. We shouldnt protest ingame. But its more like "We shouldnt HAVE TO protest ingame." But sadly SOE is bringing anything bad on themselves. I feel zero remorse for anything that happens to them. Whether its ingame protests, billboards outside their studios, or some drunk shouting at them at a seminar. Dont blame the protestors. Blame the people that are causing it. Dont try to stop the effect. Stop the cause.
And yes that guy was griefing. I found an empty spot on an island and dropped a house. My own little get away from my PA and the game. Fishing and playing Barbie's Dreamhouse. That was until a week later when I got an email from a guy telling me I had to move because HE found that spot first and wanted it. When I told him thats to bad but we can share (there was plenty of room) he started dropping harvs all around my house and left them there. All with nice names like "MOVE NOW!" and "GET OUT!". When I contacted a CSR the CSR actually came ingame to look at it and said there was nothing he could do since you can build anywhere you want.
Without ingame protests in this game....wookies would not have been given armor, T21s would still be uncraftable on some servers, and several horrendus patches would have been left in the game. Remember the whole crafting revamp that ruined crafting? It was protesting in game that fixed that. We screamed and shouted on the forums and nothing happened. But when a bunch of people started running around naked in the game SOE stood up and took notice.
Anyway I dont like protests ingame anymore then you honestly. But when its the only thing that seems to get the job done with these yahoos down in Austin then hand me a picket sign and tell me where to stand.

I said so they will not make the same mistake again. That doesn't mean just revert back right now. I sat and specifically made the point of everyone just wants change right now. No one is patient enough to wait for nature to run it's course. It has hardly been long enough and trust me if they lost enough they would do something far more about it.
And sorry but when you have a bunch of people lagging you up, putting a bunch of negative propoganda in the game or doing anything else it is retracting from their gameplay. I speak from experience. All you are doing with it is punishing the players. All the staff at SOE is going to get from it is a IM from the GM's that there was a problem that resulting in warnings or bannings the next day.
You never HAVE to protest in game. You did make your ultimate statement and stopped playing. You are just mad that you can't play it again. However like I have already said, their product, their rules, and it's a video game. Sitting tearing up some one elses relaxtion or frivalous pass-time because you just have to have your video game back is wrong, just as wrong. And it don't matter if the did wrong first, or if they are more wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right and all you do with stuff like that is fuel their determination and stubborness to not recipricate. You cheapen your "cause" stooping to such levels and make them look like the persecuted ones.
Your choice if you continue to do it, you just aren't going to tell me it doesn't take away from my fun while you are trying to piss off SOE and get their attention. I really do feel for ya. I would love to see the old game back too but I am also tired of the same old hate day in and day out. I handle it here by choice but I am not going to sit and tolerate IN the game as well.

When is the "Complete" suppose to come out? Figure they'd want numbers up around that time so that on the off chance someone finally decided to try the game after it's been out for 3 years or vets that have been gone for a couple of years were to decide to buy the game with all the expansions and give it a try, people would actually be on the servers.
To those considering coming back, I say consider the date. November 15th is fast approaching. SOE is looking for a shot of subscribers to show that they have made progress since NGE. If all of the vets come back for this 21 days, then they can show at the end of October that they have x subscribers. Do NOT take the bait. Make them fail. Come November 15th, any artificial date set for progress will certainly be OVER. Let this game fail. I am cancelling my subscription next so as not to be counted. There is no reason for a 21 day offer to be extended at this time EXCEPT to inflate subscriber numbers. Expertise is not done, the GCW is still in shambles, and the game is as broken as ever. Do NOT be fooled into being counted! All other previous offers were 14 days, not 21. There is much more to this story than SOE being nice. You have been informed...

"let nature take its course."???? A corporation isnt nature. A corporation needs a nudge or two in the right direction from time to time. Some corporations need a sledge hammer upside the head but still. "Change right now"? Its been almost a year. Whole societies have changed govenments in less time. How much more time you think we should give them before we start using stronger tactics? 3 years? 5? 15? Is there a chart somewhere on how much time should be allowed to pass before people start stepping up? Whats the PC thing to do here?
Remember that old saying "A person looking for trouble will find it eventually"??? That is what I dont understand here. Its like these forums. An anti-NGE post pops up and some Pro-NGEer opens the thread and reads it. Then he gets all upset and starts replying. Samething for the reverse when a ProNGEer makes a thread and an Anti-NGEer opens it then gets all upset and starts replying. Where does it say we have to view every single thread that is contrary to our beliefs? Samething with the game. Please show me in the EULA where it says all players must go out of their way and search out protests. Do you actually run around in the game looking for harvs and houses with protest slogans? Do you sit in cities and look for protest messages? I dont. I play the game. And I seriously doubt if anyone was protesting in game right now you would even know it was happening. Unless you were looking for it. If you were then you brought that on yourself so live with it.
Granted the servers crashing during the wookie protests was bad. I will give you that. But in all honesty when the protests were organized server crashing wasnt what they wanted. I was there. They just wanted to be heard. The leaders of that protest were actually concerned about server crashing that was one of the reasons it was spread out. But it wasnt spread out enough and bad stuff happened. But dont look at the bad. Look at the outcome. Was the outcome worth it? Honestly IMO it was worth it. I was willing to sacrifice an hour of downtime so wookies got armor.
Drastic times call for drastic measures. Yes a few players might see a protest or have to log in again because of one but its a risk I am willing to take. Its a small thing if it brought about something that improved the game. And I think most people, even the ProNGEers can agree that classic servers would only better the game.
Seriously imagine it. A protest akin to the wookie protests is held in game. You go LD and have to wait an hour before you get back in game. A week later classic servers are announced. Would it be worth it to you? It would to me. Even if I was still a fanboi for SWG. I was upset when the wookie protests crashed the servers. But after I saw what it brought about I wasnt mad anymore.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

hehe, no need to flame me though, i dont work for soe
But as an active subscriber for the past 3 months I can say (though its only a feeling, i have no numbers to back it up) that the player subscription numbers are rising again. Many old faces are reappearing to give the new changes a try, its good to see old friends back
I canceled my account on november 15th 2005, did a tour of other mmorpgs and then, after following the update notes, rejoined a few months ago. Been having fun ever since, not saying you should too, I fully understand the bitterness being a pre-cu jedi

The mail says: "Fellow Jedi and Bounty Hunters" tho.
Maybe it's just for those that has a BH or Jedi on their inactive account?
I know I don't...BH is just a badge on 2 of my characters..Mastered before they made BH easy.
