I honestly believe that it is Cryptic's hope to create a more improved CoH with the popular Marvel license and background.
Think about it, you take the best elements of CoH/CoV... combine them with newer, better gameplay, better graphics, Marvel icon superheroes/villains, maybe some cutscenes with voiceovers, and you've pretty much got the greatest superhero game ever.
I'm obviously skeptical, but it's logical all the same.  I mean come on, why else would Cryptic redirect their focus to creating ANOTHER SUPERHERO MMORPG when they already have the only one in existence!!

Crypic has a post on CoH.com restating their committment to the City of...franchise.  Only time will tell...

nvm, lets rather talk about the game :) anyone have anything to discuss? what would you like to see in the game?

me, myself would like to see playable "villains" ( if you can choose a normale marvel charather)

If they do the superhero thing in the most grim, macabre, fatalistic way it could be good. Mature rating and all that. Always loved the mature marked comics as a kid, not the ones where superheroes just go and save the day, the ones where they die doing so . Also more vast outdoor areas would be welcome in the superhero MMO genre. As in forests and stuff with bootleggers and mafia bases or whatever as grinding monsters . On a side note, Vampire: The Masquerade could make an excellent MMO as well, although the day/night cycle thing could prove quite nasty.

I need to play this game first before I judge this, so i can tell if this is a rip-off of City of Heros and City of Villians. I also need some more detail of how good this game will be like as well.

Say "shallow" and you'll pass safely under the grammar/vocabulary radar. "Depthless' is a word but means something a little different than what you intended to express.

Knowing SOE, being a kryptonian will be a secret unlockable race... Once the secret is out everyone will be a Superman :P But of course the race will be unfinished and everyone including The Green Arrow will be able to mop the floor with you.

Thats exactly what I want to see.. Cryptic screwed up here the first time out when they refused to listen to some of our cries that we needed PVP(villians) in the game (This when the game was being produced).. Jack over there felt that PVP was not needed or wanted and sadly the majority of the people on those boards agreed with him...

I just think COH/COV would sold so much better if they would have had both sides availible at launch.

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

i wonder, how the gameplay is going to be.... lets say the game is going to be tha classes are marvel superheroes, how would the gameplay be? if you were magneto, it would be awsome to really controll steel and iron, so that if i saw something, i could lift it, like in Marvel: nemesis. i cant wait for more info!

I get the feeling that all the Main Marvel characters will be NPC's  with the Xmen training new mutants and the Avengers training others.   Magneto or good ol' Dr Doom training villans (assuming you can play one).

If I am right you will have to play unknowns within the marvel universe.

Also I wonder if they will have real places in the game as mentioned in the comics.  If so will this include real life advertising?   If it does fair enough IMO.   If you are flying through a real city you are going to see billboards advertising stuff so it might as well be real stuff to make a bit of extra £$£ for the creators.

If you can play proper Marvel characters I want to be Uatu (the Watcher) but I will play him like Stewie Griffin as they look identical.

I like what someone said about no levels, or rather no visible levels shown on characters like the hulk or whatnot (but the color system identifying their difficulty should probably remain, atleast in some form)... From that, I think there still should be some form of advancement system... Maybe one where u get to customize your stats through an advancement system, although maybe still similar to the level system, but it doesn't necessarily have to feel like a leveling system... That's the thing, how the players feel psychologically is what counts!

And this time I hope they keep PVP in mind while creating the game and powers... Some sort of coliseum thing again, but this time with less and maybe a more indepth form of pvp, so that players could focus on the main pvp game ( rather than the variations of pvp in CoH/CoV that there's hardly any players in any of them )...

Also I hope the graphics/animations is just as good or about as good as Aion is...I really like the fluidity of movements in Aion...

As far as my hopes for the Game. I really hope it will be alot better than the CoH/CoV game right now. Especially, since the ideas they're using to continually update COH/COV is pretty good... like the cinematics thing, so now they can use that for better story telling... Destructible objects, hopefully incorporated throughout the outside world too rather than instance...

I would take CoH only with less repetitious gameplay, faster levelling (post 10), and a coat of Marvel paint in a heartbeat.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Exactly, Cryptic only has to maintain CoH/CoV.  But if this new Marvel game takes off... who's to say that they'll focus even half of their efforts on those titles.  This is a chance for them to fix all the errors and gaps in City of Heroes/Villains.  Better gameplay, more in-depth PvP, etc.

All I'm saying is, you thought that Blizzard had a big license with Warcraft... can you even IMAGINE the impact a successful MARVEL MMORPG would have on the community?!!

If they do this right (and God help them) then we've got the next big title on our hands for sure.

when you said that about playing "unknowns", i thought that would be ok, cause they might make it like that, you play as a unknown, BUT if they do so, i would hope that they made it so that you can choose famous marvel characters "power pools". that would be kinda cool imo. and i really think they are going to make the game like that, cause its going to be limited to have only one of each marvel character on each server. and it would be stupid to see 3 hulk's in one group...

if marvel puts some money in this project, and listen to players, and not making a COH/COV clone, their going to make a GREAT game... im sure.

We can only watch and wait.  Hopefully, being new to the MMO scene, Marvel won't make the same mistakes as other publishers.

The sad reality is that there is a fine line between a great idea done right and become the next big thing and a great idea done bad and fail miserably. (Look at the Fantastic 4 movie ... Good idea, good cast.... BAD directing and script)

Time will tell for sure on this ... till then I am with COH/v and kicking butt

Its going to flop unless they do it right.

My ideas for a good superhero game are

    1. a
huge range of powers – I want everyone to be different so look at some Superhero P&P books
    2. environment
involvement - , destroyable building (just some parts) destroyable environments
(lamp posts, fire hydrants, bins) etc
    3. customization
      -  a lot of it at least a 100 pieces
for all parts of the body and each one can be coloured differently
    4. Guild
wars servers – now here me out its simple we have game play servers and
people servers, the people serves is where we see most people and talk to
them and the game play is where we do quests, like Guild wars. Why you
ask, because I don’t think seeing 40 heroes running around in 1 city or environment
looks realistic if you know what I mean, but that’s not to say you can see
other people, you can ask to see you friends or allies in superhero group,
so lets say you wanted to play with only the people you like not kids with
names like “seks god” bur RPers then you can. Also it can be easier on
      your machine so less lag
    5. cell
shading – I think is the best choice for Superhero MMO, it fits in with
the environment and it can look very cool

He is the Hulk and he is dangeous, that is all that should matter.I think that Superhero MMOs should be skill based. The more you know how to use your powers, the more effective they are.

Couldn't agree more! I strongly dislike that most MMORPG's are level/class based games. Time to junk that garbage. Evolve already!

if this game is going to be anything like COH or COV then i won't like it, i really didn't see the point of either of the 2 mention games after playing them.

i dont know if anyone has read this, but as someone said, its proly going to be like you just encouter the greatest marvel heroes, read here: http://crypticstudios.com/products.php

I am willing to bet that if MUO comes out and is a success then SOE might just give up on a DC version.  After all DC only has one good hero.   Marvel has dozens.
