Hey... how 'bout a break here? It's not often I get a minute amount of inspired writing in these forums . And besides, nothing wrong with going to write poetry, just don't go all "myspace" on everyone and post a new one every second.
Maybe next time I'll just end it with: WoW Suxx0rs, EQ2 is da bo0r1ng ands Eve is for haxo0r5.... Would that work?
I'm just giving you some criticism since everyone else here seems to only use your quotes for QFT bumps

Fair enough . I'll try and spice it up a little next time I get all squishy like that .

I don't know about you guys, but MMO's are steadily getting very boring for me, same old thing in every other game. Run from A to B grab book for old man, run back to old man, get 3 silver, gives another quest. Oh get another book? ok. Grind mobs, get XP, farm money, craft. Kill boss. 5 years gone. The genre needs to go in a new direction, or maybe I'm suffering from the classic burnout syndrome. But I dunno, I'm a tad bored these days. Being 25 and all, I'm kinda fed up drinking all the time and what not, so I tend to spend my free time playing games, and maybe go to the pub once a week. I started playing MMO's some 5 years ago, even though it only seems like yesterday. Started with FFxi, then moved onto LIneage2 and finally WoW (currently in EQ2). I dont even know where this is going, ever feel like its all pointless, I mean the grind the levels the equipment, Good Guilds make the difference. Friends and what not, but man, the monster killing, its all the same old crap just in a different guise. I need some cheering up, tell me MMO's are gonna be great again! Think i'll go play some "Cook some dinner" for a bit.
You are burnt out for one and for two, you probably aren't playing a game that is interesting to you. I have played all the games you listed and about 9 more. All were good games and have big names, but most weren't my style of MMO. Either way, nothing compares to my first time ever playing MMO's 4+ years ago. I would suggest re-evaluating what you like in a MMORPG, jot that list down, and then look for a game that has all those features. If you need help, send me a PM with the list, because I did the same thing and I have played around 12 MMORPG's.
Me personally. I am burnt out on MMO's, but after creating my list, I figured out why. After my first MMO experience, which was exciting, only because it was the first time ever playing a MMO and with hundreds of other people, I realized that none of the games I played were all that interesting.
I myself am a gamer who enjoys a more simulation type game where I can Roleplay freely. This leads me to sandbox games mostly with the ability to create player ran cities and to be able to defend them from enemy player attacks.
Unfortunately, Shadowbane is the only worthwhile game playing that is like that. I am really waiting for Darkfall Online though. I played Lineage 2, but the game concentrated more on the grind, than on the player city conflicts. It also allowed the use of bots, which is a huge turn off. In Shadowbane, you can grind relatively quickly (compared to Lineage 2) and experience Player City conflict earlier on. You can actually create cities and destroy them. The game simulate a feudal system, which is really fun...and the game is free. It is a perfect game for a person like me, but the graphics aren't that good and the controls take about one evening to get used to if you never played with controls like it before (point and click, same as Lineage 2).
Best of luck to you though. MMO's weren't meant to be like single player games, that is why the quests suck so much in them. There can't be thousands of heros running around. It's better to play a game like Lineage or Shadowbane, where you can actually make a name for yourself and become a Hero in your own right, without having to run several Fed Ex and kill x amount of monters quest.
I must admit, after the last posters sentiments, that the increasing emphasis on Quests is getting rather irratating. And in all honesty there's nothing worse in my opinion than entering a game and being overwhelmed by hundreds of quests in the first few zones.
In my mind, its better to let the player find his bearings, rather than forcing him along a structured path which ultimatly leads to frustration and anxiety. I agree with you about Lineage and Shadowbane, I played Linage 2 for awhile, but I think I started the game to late as there was never any low lvl players around to group with.
One point that seems to run right through though is the one that your first MMO is always likely to be the most influential, and memorable, in terms of physical impact and mental stimulation. None of us are ever likely to forget anything about our first footsteps in Azeroth, Norrath or Aden. Such is the way of Nostalgia.
Like another poster said, Games aren't his hobby, their his lifestyle. I think i'll second that motion.
Think the problem is that all the games on the market and being released for the Fantasy genre are, on the whole, simply clones of each other.
Nothing original around these days, EvE is still the most original mmorpg around, but the novelty of that is wearing off with a lot of players. This is why games don't hold players attentions for long like UO and EQ did for example, seen it all before, been there, done that.
I installed Silkroad this weekend, nice looking game and free, but after 2 hours i was bored of it as it simply reminded me of DAoC, EQ, EQ2, UO, WOW etc etc.
The norm these days is to churn out mmmorpg after mmorpg with nothing original in the mix, the market is utterly saturated and growing largely thanks to WoW pulling mainstream gamers into the mmorpg circle.

Hmm, I dunno about saturated, Doesn't feel like that to me but I know what your saying. Theoretically it is saturated, but most of the MMO's are relatively poor so I take little notice of them. I know this is a pure show of ignorance here, but I usually steer clear fo free MMO's. I just can't fathom how a free Game can be any good or rather match up to the ones that I have payed for, simply becuase they are professionally developed.
Regarding the whole Fantasy genre, thats a good point. But, for me it's the only genre of MMO I want to play. To be honest, I hate the way Japanese Rpg's over the years have turned to "cyber punk" themes, I much preffered the old days of Knights and Dragons, but thats just a personal preference.
