SWG was terrible before NGE.
Lack of content? yes. But we had the ability to create our own which kept most people happily busy living lives in a SW universe. Once they removed that it made the lack of content stand out more. Now the game just sucks. Name another game where you could make a name for yourself doing something as mediocre as crafting or dancing. It wasnt a game for just combatants, which made the game have more of a real world feel.

Guild Wars isn't ANYTHING like Knight Online. I say World of Warcraft is more like it, but not in very many ways either. Guild Wars and World of Warcraft are my favorite games. The worst game, if you ask me, has got to be Dungeons & Dragons Online from what I've heard about it. I haven't actually played it though, so it's not fair for me to say.

I can't believe you just said a good thing about SWG dancing and crafting.
And as for a game that's non-combatant, what about the game that just shutdown, Seed? And you could also add Second Life to that.
Originally posted by liddokun There are a lot more crappy games out there than DDO. DDO just got the heat because it is by a big name developer namely Turbine who used to churn out greats like AC1 and AC2 (who unfortunately ceased to exist). I guess they loss their touch. As for the worse games... there are a LOT some of them doesn't even have the opportunity to be given the limelight of community attention. But I must agree that DDO was a disappointment for me. I played the game expecting much much more but instead during launch my hopes were dashed.
I'm not sure if all the talented people behind AC left turbine, or if they were fired to make more budget room available for graphics design people, but Turbine has gone horribly downhill. The entirety of their business plan now consists of:
Someone Elses Popular MMO + Someone Elses Popular Intellectual Property = OMG$$. Except it doesnt work because theyre literally photocopying other MMOGs (usually resulting in something worse), and trying to sell it with pretty graphics and a hook like OMG DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS or OMG LORD OF THE RINGS.
The company just cant collapse and get out of the MMOG industry fast enough at this point. Theyve been in it so long that theyre literally no longer designing games, theyre GRINDING games. If they do it enough, I suppose they'll level up and they might get to put some points into the "Don't fuck this game up" skill, but I doubt it.

Hmm so your describing just about everything Blizzard did with WoW.They took all of the good elements from OTHER mmo'sand put it into WoW.
What does that say about Blizzard?
I mean really imho DDO is a good game for what it is.Its made for a player that likes that particular gamestyle. When i played it i actually enjoyed the concept of dungeons with actual traps etc etc.I find it interesting that so many people are bashing the game yet it is STILL up and running with no rumors of it being shutdown.
They must be doing SOMETHING right.

I'm suprised to see tibia in that chart. It was my first mmorpg and I still have a subscription. But I only play off and on now. Just glad to see it survived.

I don't recall the staff here taking any stance for, or against, gold farming/selling. They allow it advertising, they merely tolerate them to be customers and paying their bills for some ads. Just like me, I never care about them. But if you keep pushing the neutrals into the enemy camp, then they become the enemy. You should be careful of what you do. If someone tell me once: You either side with us or against us...no matter what the cause is, I would side against the person making the ultimatum. Saying that the staff here is endorsing gold-farming and the like is like saying that EQ was solo friendly...and we both know that EQ was NOT solo friendly, it merely tolerate some form of soloing...
Instancing and FUN are the best tool you can have against gold farming, why would someone avoid FUN when they can have access to it NOW in an instance? I am sure some weirdo would, but I can't care less as anyone with a 2bit comon sense wouldn't.
Gold farming never hurt my gaming experience, I see no reason to hunt it down...unlike raiding.

DDO would be just a fine game if
1.It was no subscription game 2.It didnt use D&D licence (and thus preventing any real MMO set in D&D ruleset)
Main problem of DDO is total misimpretation of D&D and what d&d player enjoys in the game , combined with total ununderstanding of MMO genre.
All this resulting in a ugly mutated experiment we call DDO
And no, it is not shutting down. They invested around 4 million dollars just in advertising, shuting it down now would probably get Turbine sued down to jail time.

My vote for the worst game of 2006 goes to Dark and Light. Dungeons and Dragons Online was not at all what I would have hoped it would be, and I am sure is repulsive to all D & D players out there, however, DnL has zero content, unless you enjoy sitting at a crafting table all day crafting items that will never be bought because there are only 50 people playing and they made their own gear anyway.

Not technically released, it was sold.
Edit: By sold, I mean they did sell people pre-orders and shipped boxes with cds.
