Originally posted by Kyuuten FFXI was a good game and I played for a few months, but I ended up cancelling for 2 main reasons: The first is, the quests just got too time consuming, I mean I know your not forced to do quests, but its part of the game. I couldn't take having to run from one side of the world to the other constantly. I played EQ for a few years and though i must admitt I never got my epic (highest chracter lvl was only a 50 cleric) I didn't think EQ quests were quite as time consuming. At least in EQ there were wizards and then PoP came out so cross world trips didn't take so long. The second reason I left was fustration. I just couldn't take the terrible group luck, Now I didn't get that high as far as LvLs go (29 war), but that's because I had such terrible group luck it was unbearable! When I quit I was half way done with the Kazham quest key, so I didn't have access to kazham. I would log on in Bastilia (sp on that) Downs and kill easys for like 3 hours then log off because I got sick of such crappy exp. Then I would log on a few hours later and have the same trouble. Two of my friends seemed to have the same group luck as me so we all decided to quit. I do admitt FFXI is one of the neatest MMORPGs I've played though. I enjoined how the developers actually did things for holidays ( like decorating the towns around X-mass). I liked the fact that there were monthly updates, which made me feel like my money was going to goos use. So I would recomend the game to anyone who as an extreme amount of patients, if not I'd say go to AO or something to that extent (That's atcually what my friends and I switched back to). TTyL TTFN! ~Kyuuten~
This is exactly why I'm about to leave. The game is great! But it is not done for a casual gamer like me. Force grouping is not accpetable for me. For a hardcore gamer, this game is probably great!

I'm gona say, if alot of people like the game, and alot of people hate, it and a few are in between, than it really depends on the person. I would say that i really love this game, but i hate counter strike. Thus striking contervercy with me say CC is a bad game. But thats only becouse i prefercance the RPG genera to that of a FPS. The same thing is here with FFXI, for example, i preferance Fantasy RPG, but some people might prefer Moder RPG. It realy has to do with the person reviewing the game. It's not fair for one or two people to rate the game and give it an immediate A or F becouse those people have different standerds of gaming. What is needed is a pole, and their is one, on the very main page of the sight. And FFXI recived somewhere around an 8.1, wich means its good, but then again some people will loVe it and some will hatE it, but the game itself is one that you ither love or hate as someone said, and if you just like it, you should find a game that you love to spend your time on. So in conclusion, it really depends on the type of gamer you are, i like it just becouse it appeals to me, and if it dosn't appeal to you thats ok as well, thats why their is a 30 day free trial. Thnx for reading my obsenly long post XD

I also bought FFXI on the day of release. I played the game until I reached lvl 30. Although the game looks great it just didn't have any real options.
Most of the classes were pretty much cookie-cutter classes(IE the paladin HAD to have a subjob of Warrior to be useful).
Also the equipment was spaced out and boring. If they had new equipment for each lvl it might have been better but I would go for 3-5 lvls without any upgrade.
One of the most important things that got to me is that after you reached lvl 20 you could not solo effeciently(XP per hr).
I dont hold any grudges against the game itself. FFXI was a beautiful game. I loved how they did housing(so much better then UO, but then again I am a neat freak and prefer an orderly world setup).
Before you buy the game you have to really know what type of gamer you are. If you are a soloer then you might not take to this game well. If you like to group then this game is great in your case.
Well I haven't got FFXI yet, but i live in England and have even ordered it online thats how good I think it is and who ever the idiot who said it wasn't worth it is wrong!
Oh and I'm only 13 and my parents bought it for me (well I payed but they had to order it) and I am a MASSIVE FF fan, i've got all the games so don't go bad mouthing ANY FF! coz they r all brilliant!
FFXI isn't a Final Fantasy game. It has cutesy anime characters and some FF staples thrown in to appease the Otaku, but it's a color-by-the-numbers MMORPG at its heart. It's also totally lacking in the character and story-driven gameplay that makes the FF series so charming to begin with. Whatever... you'll believe what you want to believe. Enjoy the game.
Also: Please check the spelling/punctuation/CAPITALIZATION/grammar in my post and flame me madly about it. I just want to see that hilarious sig pic again. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BAZOOKA

Firstly, you can go ahead and say it isn't a Final Fantasy game. The fact remains that it was the Final Fantasy team that made this game and the direction they want to take FF is the direction it will go. It remains Final Fantasy. Secondly, and this is very short, I'd like to ask what your rank is and what you know of the actual story and key characters.
