Well, it comes at a good time (Christmas = Money) so I just might pre-order.

I feel sorry for anyone that would spend $50.00 , and god forbid $90.00 for this sorry excuse of a mmo.

Mmh, not too shabby as far as pre-orders go. I've seen worse. The magic
wand that shoots fireworks looks pish. I'm a sucker, so I'll probably
    pre-order.

I like Vanguard, but I don't think it is that good to pay money up front.

That being said, no matter how much I may like Vanguard, there is no way in hell I'm going to jump in once it launches, given that the game engine is pretty much stacked against the subsequent, post-launch player in such an extreme fashion.

Brad McQuaid came to this very site, and posted a whole treatise about how he and Sigil are all about the game.  I almost believed him too.

Only to discover that they are all about the pre-order money, and willing to throw the integrity of gaming out the window just to get it.

I have a genuine interest in Vanguard, but no way will i be bitten again by pre-order hype, even after launch i wont be picking this up until its been out 3 months and Ive read reviews from real players.

Good luck to those that do pre-order though, you are my lab monkeys :)

    Indeed.

Everquest 2 was total crap for about 6 months before it really took a turn for the better.  There is no doubt that SOE is pushing this one out in the same fashion.  Your all going to buy the game wether it's finsihed or not so why would they wait untill it's polished?

They won't.  Enjoy the beta :)  I'll give it a try in spring.

I also have a bite wound from pre-order hype (D&D Online). Though that game was ok for the first 30 days (then ran out of content) and then I just cancelled my account. I just wonder when the Non-disclosure is lifted from the beta test so we can get an honest assessment of the game. Either that or I hope I get selected for beta.

Preorders that offer in game advantages over retail are a horrible idea.

You need to play before you buy? Wait for open beta... You will be truly impressed, with what I have seen, I can say that GAME is going to change the way we see mmorpgs.

Oh my god I so agree! I think they should just start selling the game for 30 dollars and give you five free months rather then make money of it.

I heard there's no in game maps for the starter cities and most of the game for that matter.  When you say change the way we see things, do you mean that we'll be looking at a sheet of graph paper or note cards instead of the computer screen?

The pre-order box at retail includes:

    •  an in-game set of horseshoes with +speed to use once you get your first horse (one per account).

One of three Hero Cards each granting a unique in-game item (one per account).

      • The Jeric card grants a cloak that increases adventuring stats.
      • The Eila card grants a cloak that increases crafting stats.
      • The Idara card grants a cloak that increases diplomacy stats.
    •  an in-game set of horseshoes with +speed to use once you get your first horse (one per account).

    • A Guild Kit which includes:
      • An in-game guild trophy that buffs stats for the entire guild*

So, for this "challenging" game where you "earn" rewards, pay extra money and you get not one, but four in game advantages over other players.

Brad sold EQ/EQ2 to SoE, and he'll do the same thing with this game.

Trust me: I am waiting for it! image I'll probably end up playing it, because there is nothing else that looks like it cost more than 5 dollars to develop. The combat looks slow though and if it is too slow then I might not end up paying for it.

hehe Yea...If it comes to that or spamming "expansions" that you have to pay for above your monthly fee, they will lose me as a customer instantly.

    I'm interested in MMORPG's.

I'm not interested in cash for game items.
Call it a LE, CE or
special LE/CE, I'm not buying, and the fact they will give extra perks
in game to others with cash to burn gives me more to consider before
    purchasing this game.

You are in the minortiy.  All your posturing aside, they do it because it works.

    Posturing?

The fact that they would give in game perks for a LE/CE is due to a genre standard with MMOGs. The vast majority do it, so it's not like it's anything new, unless you're of the crowd that has only played one MMOG in your life and just don't know any better. For better or worse, that's how it is and I really don't see why folks get upset over it. I mean, there are many other things that to me are more important than some guy giving a company a few extra bucks for a cloth map and a few ingame items that, in reality, are only of use in the early to mid levels. From my experience the upper mid and high level gear far exceeds anything you get in a LE/CE. *shrug*

I agree with you Jorev!  Totally.  Althought I would admit, if I was planning on playing a game and pre-order would benefit me, I would do it...just like I did for CoV.  Yet, it is completely unfair, evil and a bad idea.  But as a player, you have to decide, do you want to be a victim or benefit from this unfairness?

Anyway, this is not the main point for Vanguard success, it is like a drop of water in the ocean.

NON-RAIDING server would be the thing that COULD save this game.  It is heading for a wall and it is taking speed as it aim for it.  The peoples at Vanguard, supported by blind fanbois, are totally incapable of understanding their mistakes.  See, Brad says, he understand for the books and the boat, so he won't do it again.  He didn't do the boat and the book PRECISELY, yet he fails to understand the general idea behind it and just do very similar mistakes all the times.

NON-RAIDING servers wouldn't make Vanguard a top seller, but it would save them from current destination.  There are too many basics design issues that Brad & Friends fail to understand...yet...at least, if it was a non-raiding server...I understand they work hard and change a LOT of stuff to "casualised" the game...but they fail, the game isn't intuitive at all.  This is like putting a tuttu on Godzilla and attending a Miss USA event...yet...non-raiding servers would be a near-miracle on their owns, and they would save this game.

You have been the 945840284 victim of a rabid vanboi today.

See, such peoples trashing you or anyone that even question that Brad's pooh is gold lead Brad & friends to do many mistake.  They hurt far more Vanguard than your feelings, since they blind their designers.

You have a valid issue and point.  It is clear that the players who don't get the pre-order will think a LOT longer before buying a game where they start with a disadvantage;  luckily for Brad, most peoples will not know that at the moment they will see the box in stores.  Yet, most will learn in game.  IMO it is a bad move from their side, yet, it is a minor mistake, nothing major...yet all mistakes adds-on.

Peoples who will pre-order are peoples that are already buying the game...if Brad can use this information to see and understand he is going to miss the mark and get the non-raiding servers UP and running at release, then such a tiny mistake will be a slight price compared to the consequences of not having a non-raiding server at release...but am I daydreaming here?  Can they adapt and understand?  With all the praises coming to their hears from their rabid vanbois and blinding them to the market, I dunno...
