YES, WARRIOR PRIEST IS A CLASS!

Thank you very much kind sir, I would of had to wait until next issue in the newsletter to figure this out.

EDIT: So I see three classes labeled in the article. Looks like:

Bright Wizard (Looks to be Nuker, Raw Offensive Muscle)
Warrior Priest (Looks to be a mixture of Melee DPS with Healing)
Bandit (Ranged DPS) (With a lovely hat and feather to boot ^^)

I'm kind of disapointed that it's only fire. Even WoW has fire, ice and lightning, most games have enen more than that. I know that Ice Magic is exclusive to Keslev but I wish they'de put in at least two fields of magic. I guess you could consider the holyness of Sigmar a type of magic though. I love how detialed they are about the classes though. The tower stands alone because everything else around it has been burned to the ground! It seems like if they can make things this detialed in the game then they won't need two feilds of magic.

I love warrior preists. Even though my preference is to Ulric(Well Nurgle actually, but if I have to be Empire, I'll be Ulrician.) I think warrior preists will be crazy enough to hold me off.

Until more is revealed on Chaos, Bandits are the class I'm most hyped about! Guns to the extreme! Things so explosively dangerious that yo have no idea how it works but want to kill 200 people with it! You can't beat that philosophy unless you have tenticals! You just can't!

Empire for the win until Chaos comes out.

Hell no.  D&D and WoW paladins are defensive support.

Warrior-Priests have always been front-line fighters, with strong morale boosting ability and friendly-support.  They also have a strong fanatic/berserker component.

    You'd never see a Warrior-Priest shield/hearth.

Just one thing, in the whole interview Paul never said Warrior Priest could heal, he mencioned blessing (by blessing it is more likely that he means buffing than healing), how can you jump to the conclusion that he will have healing capacities? or did i read something wrong? image (i know the tabletop figurine has some healing capacity but still, can we be sure image)

I m not disappointed that it's all fire, i m sure they will come with great ideas so players can make diferent builds with it, and it's a change from all the other games where casters can use all the elements, I really feel that an all offensive caster makes up for some original gameplay :D

Well, seeing as since early on sites such as IGN stated how every army was to have a career with healing capabilities, mixed in with the "Blessings" the Warrior Priest is supposed to be capable of according to the article, unless the 4th class is supposed to be dedicated to doing that more effectivly, I am merely assuming that the Warrior-Priest is the career for the Empire with such capabilities, just as Runepriest is to the Dwarfs and Shaman is to the Greenskins.

Of course, seeing that the minature in the Tabletop game also had such capabilities sure helps me coming to this conclusion as well, but hey, I could be wrong, I have been wrong before.

I dunno. I'm thinking that with the skill tree system, and dwarf hammerers being able to become Slayers, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bright Mages have the ability to become a follower of a different school of magic.

Oh, and it did say that Bright Mages have the ability to control lightning as well. image

I understand the concern if I may use the term of Empire Bright Wizards only being Fire-Centered Wizards, but I do see it as obeying the lore of Warhammer when it comes to Empire Wizards, check this out with the said Wizards. I'll quote from the page:

    "One
of Teclis' deeds was to find such low sorcerers and hedge wizards as existed in the
Empire and teach them a few rudimentary spells of fire, lightning bolts, and thunderous
noises, which they employed against the minions of Chaos. Many Witch Hunters were
aghast that Sigmar's folk should embrace the secret arts, but the wise council and
undoubted learning of Teclis won over the majority. Soon, the new breed of wizards
were hailed as saviors of the Empire alongside Magnus the Pious himself, who became
Emperor of all the land of Sigmar."

Bright Wizards are fun. Pretty damn interresting!
The problem about making other colleges of magic avaible in this game, is.. They're so farking diverse. Each different college is a class in it's own right. Heck, most of the other colleges really wouldn't work in this game - Far from focused on pure damage, many of them is all about utility. My favorites, the shadowmages, is almost like an group of secret agents. They can get information about anyone, they can change their looks to match another humanoid at will.
But bright wizards defently got some nice spells. Like that flaming sword, which makes them quite kickass in close combat..

A warrior priest of Sigmar would most likely be able to do some healing. A warrior priest of Sigmar isn't really a healer, but is widely focused on group utility. That is, buffing. In WHFRPG, they also got a direct damage spell, as well as a healing spell. But they're really limited, there, when it comes to healing.

<lighting strikes, burning everything that -- it's napalm. Napalm, bombs, explosion, fire, flame throwers, matches, they smoke heavily, probably chew tobacco, all their hair is always singed, all their clothing looks like it's probably been on fire, they carry matches everywhere, tinderboxes, they like gasoline, they drink whiskey, they always got pipes stuck in their gobs. >>

Maybe that is a spelling error and they meant to say lightning strikes..

From the get go of this game comming around and announcing the playable races, I have been very estatic about the Empire because I know they're not your stereotypical "knights and castles" kinda humans.   They're completely violent, insane, and intelligent. image

The Bright Mage seems really fun and I look forward to see what all they really can do. I'm a tad bit upset they're fire mages only, but is that just for right now?image Yeah there are other colleges of magic but fire is a good start. There are tons of possibilities with the Warhammer lore.image

The Warrior Priest. What can I say...ever since I started getting into the Warhammer lore these are probably some of the coolest looking warriors in the human arsenal. From the table top, they could do a little healing, buffing, and still whip some serious ass.

These are fanatical, devout killing machines that I've always found captivating and not some fancy, prancy "oh look at me and my free mount" wanna be warriors. Trust me, you don't wanna ask for a heal because these guys will more likely bash your brains in to put you out of your misery.

Bandit looks kickass! They're like mercenaries and pistoliers thrusted into a swash buckling musketeer! I can dig it. I'm more excited than ever about this game now and am definitely considering playing Empire but I know Dark Elves and Chaos are gonna blow the mmorpg community away. Thanks for your time guys!

Of all the classes revealed thus far, the warrior priest is the one I want to play most.

Just so you know, the concept art shown of the bandit is an NPC.  The gamespy article says "2 of the careers revealed."  Not to burst any bubbles. :p

The Bright Wizard is the best looking wizard I've seen in any mmo.  I love how fanatical the concept art looks.  And I love the description "They're buckets of instant sunshine"

That would make it a Cleric, not a Paladin.

    Warrior + Mace/Shield + Holy Powers = Cleric

Whatever you want to call it, I love 'em. Always played a Cleric in classic tabletops, and most of the MMOs as well.

For the most part, in previous rulesets, Warrior-Priests are religious warriors.  Often, even, without healing spells!

There is no simple D&D/WoW/MMO analog.  Warrior-Priests are quite a bit different than anything that's been done before, so it's rather pointless to try to shoehorn them into classic MMO tropes.

  • checkthis500checkthis500 Member Posts: 1,236
I don't think the Warrior-Priests are going to be able to heal at all.  They might get a few self heals or something small, but in that article, Paul says "They fight in the front lines, and then are able to "bless" their friends"

I don't think this means heal, just because in almost every rpg I've ever played "bless" is far different than "heal" and no where in the article does it say "heal."

Since we still have 2 more classes, one could be more geared to healing.

I don't get what you mean. Preists are always the healers and their healing is always explained as the work of a divine god. In other words, healing is always blessing in ever Medevil RPG I've ever played. Paul does seem like the kind of person to pick his words accord to the RPG genre anyway, he's a Warhammer guy.

And Check, saying that the Bandit is an NPC because the article was only supposed to reveal 2 classes is just as far fetched as saying the bandit is a PC and the website just made an error.
