Stop bustin my balls will ya...

Most people consider stealth-- a "go invisible button". So under that premise, I called blending in with the environment 'ala fake stealth'.

Really though, if you played daoc I wouldnt have to explain that to you. Sorcerers didnt have stealth. At best in the right weather my dyed cloth could be considered camouflage. Stealthers had STEALTH.

Some of the games in GW's Warhammer design, drawings, video-games, miniatures, etc (yes even miniatures. Hell I got a chaos warrios with a skin mask/face nailed onto his shoulder pad! Most Chaos has deformities like tentacles, claws, spikes - come on we all know that) are more gory or less gory depending on wich market the specific game is oriented.
Example: Hero Quest wasn't that gory as I think it was more oriented for kids and young teens.
But then again in Warhammer Fantasy RPG some of the descriptions could be described as gory (already gave some examples in that earlier post).
Some of the novels were also pretty gory in some parts. (I remember reading a 40K novel... and the thing was that some Commander ate the brain of another believing he would gain his knowledge).
So you see, it all depends on the game and to wich gamer (adult or kid) it is oriented - and I also believe in you what you believe is gore enough or not.

Is WAR going to be gory, gloomy, and etc...?
Ask the question to the man in charge or wait for it's release or to some glimpse of what it will look like in reality.

I would love to see it that way... all gloomy, gory, etc... but if not it's fine by me as I'll be more than happy to play the game already.

I think most people are under the misconception that a T rating doesn't support gloomy and gory atmosphere.  Check this guy out for instance:

    Chaos NPC

I think most people would agree that it's a pretty gory NPC.  A T rating allows the atmosphere and background to be bloody and gory with body parts, hanging heads, intestines hanging out (like the plague bearer concept art) and other gory things.

What it doesn't allow is the act of doing those things.  We won't be able to disembowel someone, but if they already have their guts hanging out then that's fine.  We won't be able to cut arms off, but there will surely be arms on the battlefield.

Here's a couple more shots that show that the atmosphere will be as gloomy and gory in certain places as we all hope:

    gloomy badlands

dwarf heads hanging from a tree.

dead dwarfs and piles of skulls.

Notice hands nailed together as a belt buckle

Warhammer is bloody. Get over it. The MMORPG should be bloody as well. Orcs, given a bad roll on group Wagh! powers, should explode, sending chunks everywhere. THATS warhammer.

I'm really not seeing that there's anything for me to "get over".  I never said there was anything wrong with things being bloody.  I just find it a tad pitiful that some people seem to feel that things must be ridiculously gorey to be entertaining.

I am going to stir the pot a little bit in this thread. I do think it is important to keep the Warhammer grit and grime theme, BUT when I saw the cinematic...

I laughed as the Ork was catapulted into the Fortress wall. Then I thought, "Why does every game aspire to be so intense, serious, dark and forboding? Why can't we throw in some humor? Is it supposed to be fun, right?

Picture this. Instead of dancing emotes ( well, in addition to dancing emotes) lets have some humorous finishing emotes. You stun a dwarven adversary at near death, then as a gesture of ownage, you hit the /wedgie button.

Your ork sheathes his weapons gets behind the hapless dwarf and pulls his shorts waaaay high, then you land your death blow.

Or perhaps you are in a group with your empire buddies. Your adversay is teetering at 10 hit points. The dwarven hammerer wants to finish off with /fart. As the foe falls, the hammerer ridicules the victim with a facial of methane..

Quick note, there won't be dance emotes in WAR.  Check Paul's Video Blogs.

I like how this thread has devolved from "What people would like to see" to an in-depth exploratory debate over what amount and what type of gore a Warhammer MMORPG should, could, and would have in contrast to the Warhamer minitures game....

The settting of WAR, to me atleast, has more to do with darkness and grit then it does with gore.  Even with a Teen rating there is plenty of room to create a game that feels like the Warhammer universe.

Thanks Stunty for correcting that. I did see those recent blogs and it is good. Looks like they are focusing on the whole concept of "war is hell" and gonna keep that rough grit and grime atomosphere about it. I just had a glimmer of hope in the trailer that some humor would pop in and keep everyone honest for a chuckle now and then.

I know we have things like Crits for mega damage, I would love to see critical misses that end up like flubs where perhaps you slip and fall, you drop your weapon or shield, a spell backfires and toasts the caster, an assasin snaps a twig and snaps into view and can't dissapear for a short period, etc.

Maybe a war machine malfunctions or misfires.

    Spice things up a bit!

I don't think there will be criticals misses ending up badly, though I would like to that or wouldn't mind it to happen. Again talking about Table Top such things could happen specially for Orcs and Goblins so why not?

While enjoying the arguements in this thread I am also in hopes that Warhammer is a bit less cartoon and a little more fierce while no bashing any other games.  I have personally not played WOW although have heard negatives for the most part.  I have faith that a great MMO is in the works and hope to get involved from the start.

    >.>;;   WAAGH anyone?

    Woot ^-^
  • FergRedbeardFergRedbeard Member Posts: 69

I hope there is more options in Pvp and conquerable areas otherwise it just becomes another WOW...which was a good game....just somewhat static.

(P.S> I have read what they have put out already and it does look like the Pvp will be more rewarding...the only question is...how much more rewarding?)

  • kaltamkaltam Member Posts: 66
well its an upgraded system from DaoC so were probly gonna be satisfied in the pvp category, the video interveiw i saw listed serveral pvp types including a campain where it is possible to capture the enemies King and sack the capital.

so we can expect some town sacking possibly destructable buildings.

  • FergRedbeardFergRedbeard Member Posts: 69

yeah...that's pretty much what I was referring to....the town sacking....

player run towns would be nice too...but I guess I'll take whatever I can get...

This game should be bloody and dark, but not twisted and sadistic. Remember, mythic is wanting teens to be able to play this game too
