I went into so much research into this game for a few months and then I found out it was going to be a P2P game. Don't you all agree that paying should be optional?

Paying to play an MMO is just as optional as devs deciding to work on it.
I think that paying for a game monthly is a good thing (though it shouldn't be as high as today is normal, around 5 euro/$ should be better).
When you pay a monthly fee, the company keeps getting money from it, and it will try to let players keep playing there game so they get more money. So they will do their bests to make it a good game, with new content, new updates etc.
if you don't have to pay to play the company will at its peak with selling copies of the game, just let the devs work on some other project and not spend any more money on a game which will not make anymore profit for them.
(sorry if my story is hard to follow, I'm very tired...)
What Elda said pretty much sums up why games such as these need to be P2P. I wouldn't mind this game as P2P, I love pirates therefore paying for this game won't be such a big deal!

Heh. You get what you pay for.
The cost you complain about, usually around 15$ a month is irrelevant - It costs roughly the same to see a movie with popcorn and a soda.
But a film will only last a few hours then you're bored again....
For 15 bucks you get roughly 720 hours (30 days) of countinuos entertainment in a massive multiplayer game wich is constantly being expanded and updated all the time, making it better and better as time goes by.
people may play a single player game for a few months... But you can find plenty of MMORPG fans who have played the same game for years.
In short i dont want this game to be free, i like the concept and i want a good service. I can see myself enjoying this game for awile.

When I see a game listed as supposedly free to play, I quickly discard it and look for a game with a monthly subscription which indicates it has a higher chance of being worthwhile.

I want the game to be f2p but if it was then it would mean 1) it wouldnt last long because no monthly fee usually mean no updates 2)if one is true then it wouldnt be worth my time.

I have played Runescape which costed $5/month and that wasn't worthwhile. Anyway, many people don't have access to paying for games online so we'd like to play some free games with optional payments. Buying the game from a shop is no problem.
That's because Runescape ISN'T worthwhile. Really . You'd get a much better deal paying thrice that much and still get a much better game and game community. But, if you want to try a better free game (or really a free trial) you could try Anarchy Online. They have a fairly expansive free trial as you get to play the classic version and the Notum Wars exapnsion. There's also the Saga of Ryzom trial which is unlimited (timewise), but a little more limited as you have a lvl 21 cap on the island.

True. I might try out AO when I get a new PC because the graphics on this PC is really bad. As I've been saying, I don't mind paying £20 for this game.
Are there more payment options whilst you are in the game? (Like the option to buy game currency with real cash)
That option isn't available legallly. There's always a black market that is created by the fabled Chinese phatz and game currency farmers though. I wouldn't encourage it however.

ok. That's good because all the players get an equal chance. When the game sells their currency, Newbie's will look awesome when experienced players won't look as good.
The black market. I've seen loads of these when I played RuneScape. I don't really agree in having these mainly because it's illegal and unfair on everyone else.

Well.. if you have the money coming in for playing the game, then you should

Buying the game from a shop is no problem. personally I think having the option to pay for a game, is the biggest bull shit and biggest mistake I've ever heared. It's just not fair. When you play a game you want to be able to be as good as anybody else, well when there is an option of paying it can't be fair. I mean when you pay you will get some kind of advantage, otherwise none will pay. So the game can't be fair. It's like racing against a formule 1 car while you're on a bike, the only hope you have is that your opponent crashes.
It would be allright if you had different servers, one for ppl who pay and one for ppl who don't, but haven't seen a game who did that.
Nah. I mean games where you can buy stuff that you cannot trade with other users...Like buying a great looking hat which doesn't add on to any of your skills, it just covers up the hat you're wearing now. This item will not be tradeable so the only advantage you get from it is that you look good so you still have to work just as hard as any normal user to get to a certain level. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

yes I do, but I wasn't talking about any specific game, just all games those games in general
Yeah. Puzzle Pirates is a game where you have the choise to pay $7/month for a members server and it's very empty. The free server is very full and you can't transfer items between them so I guess that sucks. It's more value to be a free player than a paying player. They sell their own game currency so that's how they make so much money.
So you are talking about paying extra for extra items and all game. I thought you were talking about monthly fee. Archlord was going to be where you can pay extra for more points per month but they changed it which was best idea they had. Although i think archlord is not a great game, the whole potions and grinding non stop isnt as fun.

Throughout the 1st 24 posts, the topic has changed a bit from monthly cost to extra cost. I was saying that I won't like to pay monthly for a game.
I wouldn't mind if there were non-tradeable items that you could buy for real items because it won't help you lvl in any way but it'll make you look good.
Online games cost money to run and maintain, let alone expand - servers & bandwidth aren't free in any sense of the word, let alone development teams, artists, coders and the rest. Basically you get what you pay for and personally I've found that free games are like free advice - worth what you paid for them. ;-)
As others have said, for the price of a movie ticket & popcorn I can get a whole month's worth of entertainment - $15 isn't hard to come by for anyone, even those under 18. I'd say if anything the greatest difficulty is finding a method of payment rather than the money itself, but many games are offering means of payment other than just credit cards these days.
