The game will have a monthly fee.  There are 2 questions about monthly fees on the Beta sign up page, one asking how much you think it should cost and the other asking how much you would be willing to pay.

oh well thats another game down the toilet :S thanks for answering im guessing they charge you to use there servers ? thats what the cost it

Most MMORPG's have monthly subscriptions.  I have to say MOST because Guild Wars is the first decent looking game that doesn't have a subscription.  All you have to do is buy the game from the store.  As for World of Warcraft, I am willing to pay the monthly fee....hopefully it won't turn out to be like $15 though.

I haven't actually played it, though I've heard it's good.  Neocron has no monthly fee.

If there is a way...I'll find it.

Man most mmorpg's has to have a monthly fee, how else do you feel they would pay the people who maintain the servers, and the guys who covers tech support and other aspects of the gameimage

I'm making some assumption shere... but...

Most MMORPG's have subscription fees to improve and change the game over time. Essentially every code load/patch/point release is a slightly new version of the game you are playing. So we have to continuously pay the development team. On top of that we need to maintain and upgrade the hardware you're running on, after all it is OUR (read company who owns the game) hardware and not yours.

So yeah, if you want a free MORPG there are plenty of free MUDs, MUSHes and MOOs out there for you to play. . . And no, I won't be drawn into an argument that these aren't MORPGs, it'd just be a semantics game which I'm too tired and sick to play.

The new standard with recently released games is about 13 dollars a month to play.  AC1 a game thats been out for a few years is upping there rate even.

Just my opinion, still cheap entertainment.

There is only one opinion that matters.

Actually I am afraid that the new standard is going to be in the $15-$20 range...sad but true.  Truth is tthey could probably charge $20-$30 and most of us would still pay.  I smoke, and I remember when cig prices jumped like 80%.  Did  I stop....NO.   Face it you are addicted to mmorpgs...by you I mean the reader (I know that I'm being general, but you know what I mean)...Xaldor

I know of one game that charges 15+.  It's one of the worst games out.

Any decent mmorpg is p2p. As for Guild Wars, they may have packaged it differently, but you will still be paying for new zones and content. So I'm guessing that unless you want to treat it like a chat room and not join everyone actually playing, it's just as p2p as anything else. . .  It's simple economics, if there isn't a revenue stream coming in, there won't be any bandwidth, support, design or content going out. So unless you want to pay $100 for the retail box then $65 a pop for expansions every six months, you are going to have to pay a monthly fee. What else can you buy for $12 bucks that keeps you occupied for 60 hours (conservatively) ?

I don't play games that are more than $13 a month. I might buy the game if they have a subscription that makes it cheaper than that and play the free month. If I can't play for less than that then I won't play.

I prefer content over graphics and such. I like games that are fun, not ones that look good. I guess I will stick to other things if the price goes up. I can always play EQOA for cheap image.

I understand cost. I am sorry that if unable to afford a monthly fee. I hope ones who can't will be able to find some good games. I think there are plenty out there.

If any of you here played EQ and i bet most of you have then you'd realise that money you pay monthly is well worth it (I believe).  Sony is constantly revamping zones and adding new items and quests to the game but if the price goes too high on the game its not worth playing (15+).  I'm 15 and i've been playing EQ for awhile now and I have no problems playing it even with out a job. (because I cut a deal with my parents I have to do certain things for them and they will pay the money).

I DONT MIND PAYING BUT I THINK THAT THEY WOULD MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR THAT EXTRA STUFF IF THEY ADD A BIT TO THE PRICE IN STORES THAN A MONTHLY FEE BECAUSE A TON MORE PEOPLE WOULD BUY IT IF THERE WAS NO MONTHLY FEE. IF THEY DO HAVE A MONTHLY FEE NOT AS MUCH PEOPLE WOULD BUY IT SO IT WOULD LOSE MONEY BUT AT THE SAME TIME RECOVER THE MONEY WITH THE MONTHLY PAYERS SO IT BALANCES OUT.

It is well worth as long as it remain reasonable.

Soon the fee will have double, my salary didnt double, not to mention that income tax progress would be a fair progress anyway.  The more they walk away with high fee, the more players they lose.

EQ fees are fine IMO althought they pretty much are on the very high limit.  Now, the fee speculations goes up and up and up, why dont you save us time and just start Legends server only, I wont afford $15 US a month or $40 or whatever, I will just turn on other past times, will save everyone time... :P

I really dont mind differents fees for differents servers quality services althought, as long as they make it relatively unappealing for players to switch from a high fee server with better stuff to a lower fee server to keep the ranting down and the unfairness down should there be different loots on each type(dont need different loots, differents supports and GMs amount should do it), I dont mind someone paying more then me having better gear then me, as long as it dont affect my gameplay and grouping experience(as long as they are not on the same server then me).  I rather pay less and have almost no customer service on the server if you ask me, but those regarding gameplay alone(like been stuck underworld or such bugs).  They can read or not my feedbacks, I cant care less honestly, but I certainly dont want to pay for them to read it. :)  Feedbacks is a way to pass negative energy and help them improve the game if they care to read, if they dont, *shrug*.

I dont see why it need to only have 1 fee for all servers, you can expend the service range that the players like the most as you see it progress, I dont see 10 differents fees althought, but there is certainly room for 4 differents types(minimal possible with no support at all, minimal support(would stick there myself), good/great support and exquisite support).  The company could say they dont recommend playing with no support at all(hey they have a right for publicity) but they should allow it, yet, if you are stuck underworld there, S*** to be you.

Yea have you ever checked out the EQ legends server man what a waste of money. Its like 30$ a month US to play it.  If blizzard does anything like that its just plain dumb.

It wouldn't really balance out because the company has to constantly update the game meaning those workers are pulled off other projects meaning they the company has to go hire other people to make up for it.  Then there is the cost to run the server.  I think a server than can hold thousands of people and still be fast costs a LOT of money.  In the long run the price would run over the the amount of people that bought the game. Its a good thing to wish for but realisticly its never going to happen.  I'm curious about Guild Wars and how that will be.

Hmmmmmm i think it would be better if it went like this

Say it costs 40-50 pound to buy and you get a certain amount of time free but as we know game prices have to go down eventually and so not a monthly fee but say something every 6 months like about 20 pounds every 6 months would be good

(( i live in the uk just so you wonder why im on about pounds :P ))

First off the all caps is one that I passed and ignored. Hurts my eyes this late at night (early morning depending how you look at it). I understand the monthly fee. I don't have a problem if it does not cost too much.

Ppl who think that no monthly fee is the way to go could always look at it as they could put out just bug updates. Then they could charge for each new thing added. Instead of one expansion a year (unless EQ) could expect to spend $30 plus every 2-3 months if not more depending on price and how often they are put out. That is just my opinion and would not be first time that I was wrong if I am.
