I dont remember where i read it but i still remember. Because D&D wasnt a great succes turbine has now a huge team on lotro +80 man it said and they have to make this a good selling one if they want to survive. Not sure any truth to this but when everyone one says turbine sucks etc.. makes you think people get influenced, dont buy their games anymore and prejudge them. It sounds possible that the company could get into financial troubles and have to make lotro good selling. I think this wouldnt even be bad for the game. if you ask me where i read it, dont remember, could be a lie, could be truth.

I woudln't doubt it one bit
AC2 was my first MMO ever, (I tossed a coin between that and DaoC, what a ripoff! Cruel fate!), so I didn't even apprecite how bat it was until later. The reason I quit that is because it LITERALLY gave me headaches to play the combat was so bad...
I've played a lot of MMO's since then, and I'd still have to say that Shadowbane is still my fav, not because I'm "OMG I'M SO LEET" PvPaddict jerkwad that gets beat up IRL and takes it out in games, but because of City building... and ever since unless I have dynamic influnce on permanet environmental features than I just feel like its a shallow game experience...
TRY VANGUARD! you say? I did, and EQ+player housing just doesn't cut it for me... in fact I heard of that game LONG before I head of Age of Conan, and was thrilled to think about the city building in the game, but then after playing and finding out its whack-a-mole combat tacked on to the same old EQ standards with a couple of dumb things (like diplomacy) thrown in, catering to teh ubar raid guilds, and leaving you out in the cold if you arn't in one... yeah, no.
DDO proved to me that even with the the sweetest of plums Turbine can screw up an MMO... and there could be no sweeter plums than DandD and LOTR when it comes to RPG's, its just sad Turdbine got those licenses... maybe in the next next next generation of MMO's after Turdbine is long out of business we'll get some good DD and LOTR games....
They lost a lot LOT of money on AC2... a LOT, but not nearly as much as they have with DDO because WotC are some serious... tightwads... corperate whores... whatever, and they made Turdbine pay out the butt for the licence, and they paid as much or more for the LOTR licence...
What kills me is D+D is what almost all RPG's are based off of in small or large part, and EQ was basically DDO without the license, and love it or hate it, its what made this genre what it is... and they STILL screwed it up!
LOTR is what you could say D+D was based off of...
To see the two juciest plums, the sweetest cherries, the most READY MADE FOR A MMORPG licences get butched by these ham fisted jerkwads just makes me sad... very very sad.

Originally posted by dippitydodah I'd want to get excited about this game, however I know better. Turbine has dropped the ball on everything they have touched aside from AC1 which seems to have been a fluke. Their ideas are never properly implemented and development times to fix said ideas never come to total fruition.
After paying and playing games like Asheron's Call 2 and DDO, I can say that this company is incapable at best and I wonder if they ever actully play thier games long enough to understand how game mechanics even begin to work. Being a huge fan of LOTR I must say I'm grieving the loss of two huge liscenses, D&D and tolkien's work which could have been large splashes in a stagnating mmo pool are simply wasted on a talentless washed up company.
sad very sad.
However that being said, the sun does shine on a dog's ass every once in a while if they pull it off all the power to em, just wouldn't hold your breath.
I bet you could a whole lot better than Turbine could. You're making a decision on LotRO based on other games. If you come up with some cold hard facts about this game then I wouldn't second guess you.
But anyway like you say.
"However that being said, the sun does shine on a dog's ass every once in a while if they pull it off all the power to em, just wouldn't hold your breath."
Is that what they told yourt mother when you were born.
I'm so glad SOE didn't get this title and that's really the main reason I'm not on the Vanguard bandwagon.
Turbine has struggled to some degree but I think they are due - they make some visually stunning games and while their DDO launch while a little short-sighted, brought some new innovation to MMORPGs (such as their rogue implementation).
I'm going to follow LOTRO closely through its remaining development. It's highest on my radar right now as I continue to shuffle through free-trials of games I long ago abandoned.
Originally posted by iduums call AC1 a success, when it was released there was 3 MMO's to choose from. People decided to play EQ and UO instead of AC1. Then DAOC came out and destroyed AC1.
You're wrong.
I played all 3 of those games and stayed with AC for 5 years, It was a great game and a success for it's time.
I had Friends go and Try DAOC but they all went back to AC and there are still thousands playing it today.

It should be a good game. The trackrecord of Turbine is decent.
By the way, calling them Turdbine is very immature and hows your ignorance.
I like the text.
turdbines trackrecord is decent???????? Thats BS they released a $30 expansion for AC2, and in less than three months after releasing that expansion they announced the servers were being shut down. You call that decent????? They said AC2 wasn't making enough money to keep open. They didnt even do a full recall of the expansion until months after that if they did one at all. People were just entering the game months later to find out servers were being shut down.
Originally posted by Brenics LOTRO is just AC2 with different names. But lets hope they can pull it off. I have so been looking forward to a game that is from Tolkins world.

LOTRO is NOTHING like AC2. Its JUST like DDO.
Youre obviously out of your mind so I won't bother to correct you I just hope one of the Mods can put an end to this madness.
LOTRO has an updated AC2 client. So for that I hope Turbine has done good things with it. DDO is not the same type of game as AC2 and I hope not LOTRO.
