Originally posted by checkthis500 Most ignorant thing I've seen on this whole thread was when someone said that this must be why EVE is number one. Please go to other game sites and show me that they hate this game. No wait, I'll do it for you. One second let me link all of the ratings on various sites for EVE that can be found on their main site.
These are the reviews directly listed on EVE's main site:
You can ignore the MMORPG.com awards it won last year if you'd like, just notice that when it was first released in 2003 it won several awards, and take note that the game is one of very few games that has steadily increased their subscribers and concurrent user numbers over 3 years now.
The longer the game is out, the more people they have playing it. Unlike other games whose numbers decline after a couple years.
(For the record I don't play EVE, but I respect it as an MMO for being a great game)
By your theory, World of Warcraft would now be number 1 on the rating list.
and I shall give you another list for EVE's review average
By your theory, EVE wouldn't even be in the top 10.
You do realize the date on those reviews right? That's why I posted the ones on EVE's site since most of them are more recent. All of those reviews are from 2003 when it first came out. If you talk to anyone that's played the game then and now, they can tell you that it's made significant improvements and done nothing but moved up in the world. Hence the steadily increasing numbers for over three years running.
I mean just look at their concurrent user records they've set. It went from 12,000 last year as the first one, to 30,000 this year. That's pretty impressive and deserves respect in my opinion.
More recent? the dates are right in front of those reviews, the latest one was made in 2004, and out of all of those, only 3 were made in 2004, the rest of them are 2003.
But not that it really matter. by your theory, World of Warcraft, who grew from nothing to 7,5 million players in less time then EVE's entire existance, would be number 1 on this site.
No. My theory was that it was one of the few games that has "steadily" grown more and more players over "3 years" and that this was because it was a great game. I said myself that I was surprised to find it number one for so long, but that it deserves it because of this fact. WoW went up like lightning and people are steadily losing interest in the game. This is quite the opposite of what EVE did. You can't even compare the two.
And your reviews are for EVE Online: Second Genesis, not EVE Online: Exodus, which is what it was from November 2004 until recently when it changed to EVE Online: Red Moon Rising (not really recently. Dec. 2005). I linked the reviews for Exodus above, you'll notice that the average rating from reviews on other sites is 9.0. Hardly 6.6.
This is another one of my points, the game has gotten steadily more polished and has become a better game over the years, and looks as though it will do so through next year as well with the Revelations expansions coming out. (Note: All of these expansions are free, which to me is saying something about the quality of people running the game)
My entire point of all of this, is that they deserve to be number one because of how much CCP looks after the game and it's players.
WoW is doing the exact same thing EVE is doing. You say people are steadily losing intrest in this game, yet, just like EVE, the subscribtion numbers for World of Warcraft never went down once. in fact, they are only growing and growing. the diffrence between WoW's and EVE's population is that EVE is only growing slightly compared to World of Warcraft. your theory is still flawed because of this.
Man stop quoting 14 pages of posts gameloading, it's annoying as hell.
What? I'm sorry, the quote is so long, I can't read your post :P
I wonder how many of these awards where you can vote were won because eve fanbois go rally in eve forums to get every fanboi to vote? I remember that there was quite few threads about MMHell award and MMHell was really surprised how many parcipated but something like 9/10 voted eve.
All these eve fanbois did were register, ruin vote of some fansite and leave.
Well I usually look at the ratings :P It'd be better if they had the MMORPG ratings though cause then it couldn't be rigged. Or maybe have both on the main page or something. When I was looking for a new game to play this is the site I came to, and that was the first thing I saw. So it does give people ideas.
The game that was originally reviewed back in 2003 really doesn't exist anymore, those reviews are no longer valid to the game in it's current state.
I know you will continue to use that as your most damning piece of evidence Gameloading, but it's easy to disprove and if you insist on continuing to use it, I'll just keep shooting it down.
EVE will continue to be recognized in the industry as an inovative and quality game, regardless of how much you try and deny it.
This isn't about EvE/GW being top of the ratings etc, infact, I apologise for ever jumping to that conclusion. I just assumed that since one had jumped the other, there was a ratings war thing going on. However in the 2 days since Ive made this post, there have been over 6500 registrations, and they are still continuing.
Now someone is going to all this trouble for some reason, and its not about ratings, because none of them are posting or doing anything to raise their status, its just registration after registration. Now I cant remember back very far because MMORPG's have eaten my brains, but im quite sure you need to activate your account via E-mail, and since these registrants are signing up with obviously non-existant E-mails, they cant activate their account and enter the competitions.
So unless its just some idiot who is failing to manage to exploit ratings/competitions correctly, im completely in the dark about what they are attempting to acheive.

Like i said it could be more then 1guy someone creates the emails and someone creates the mmorpg accounts

or its just a bug
I cant see the e-mails they are registering with anymore, but what I do know, and should have said before, is that if your a website's webmaster, or know the webmaster, you can set-up all mail sent to nonexistant mail clients to an admin address. eg. safasfasfw@atomicide.com would go to my personal E-mail, so i can check it and mark it as spam, or forward it to whoever should have got it etc.
So i guess the sole purpose of thes registrations are to basically ruin the competitions for everyone, Ill wait and see how many of the 2Moons keys in December go to one of these people, wont be hard to miss, any winner thats 26, male, and has a stupid username.
I know, but im running in the assumption that he has at least 6k accounts, and thats 6000 more chances than an honest member like me, or you. 6000 entries to a compeition with 500,000 people entering gives him a 1/83 chance of winning. Ive got a 1/500,000 chance.
Anyway, I guess nothing is really going to happen about this, all I know is that if it was my own site, id be pretty damn annoyed that someone is "attacking" it in this way, even if it wasnt for the purpose of compeition etc, it would still annoy me to know someone was registering a tonne of accounts that were never going to contribute in any way, but this isn't my site, so what can I do?

I am not denying EVE is a quality game, I didn't know the game was re-reviewed, or else I would have used those ratings, simple as that. the result is the same, WoW's ratings are still higher then the re-reviews and by that posters theory, WoW should be on top.
If you read my post a little more carefully, you will see I didn't deny any quality of any game, I was merely proving a theory wrong.

ok, I'll stop spamming,heh
All these eve fanbois did were register, ruin vote of some fansite and leave.
Does it even matter? Does anyone pay attention to those ratings anyway?
Someone could spam vote Dark and Light to the top, but that doesn't mean I'm going to run outta my house and buy it.
BTW, everyone knows this site is heavily populated by EVE fanbois. If you ignore em, they'll leave you alone.
Favorite mmorpg's:

WoW
Here's a link to some reviews of EVE: Exodus, which is the last real expansion to EVE to be reviewed.
