I think WoW will go Stay on Top for much longer. Even many Veterans may not like it its just the best Mix of all Elements and most polished MMORPG nowadays. Im not even a Blizz Fanboy "quit" this Game now 2 Times and just Comeback to it sooner or later. My Hunter is Raid Equipped from BWL/AQ (Naxx was just not worth the Effort for my Guild with Patch2.0/BC near around) and my Rogue and Shaman lv60 Twinks will be equipped with Rank14 Stuff after Patch2.0 PvP Revamp.

WAR,Conana and all the other upcoming decent MMORPGs may steal some Players but i doubt any of them coming near WoW in Popularity and Subscribers.

Nerf WoW its like Crack :D

WoW is not going anywhere.  even if the population base declined by 90% they would still have close to a million players playing and at $15 americun dollars a pop, you do the math.  server costs etc scale to the population so thats not an issue.  honestly, ive gotten into wow all of three times, each time trying to commit to a new character.  just couldnt get drawn in by the grafix (woot cartoons ftw) and overall, not impressed by the simplicity of the thing.  WoW requires to much time and not much effort (point, click, point, click) yet, the end-result doesnt seem to justify it.  i look forward to conan.  something with a dark, gritty, semi-realistic and mature theme will be a nice change from all the "cutesy-wootesy" stuff thats been coming out lately.  what id really be interested in seeing is how loyal the population will be in, say, 6 years.  Asherons Call has been out for ages and people still play that, i wonder if WoW will still have the same draw...

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that as a measure of growth.

I also think many westerners are very tired of WoW, but I think they will still buy BC anyway.

If you were paying for the server rentals you would. Those things aren't cheap. They don't add them if they don't have to.

The bad thing about WoW is that you level too fast. The majority of players arent in to the end game. So once they reach 60 there isnt much left to do. By the time I had 4 lvl 60's I had felt that I did everything that was in the game so it wasnt fun anymore.

What WoW has experienced since release was a huge migration to it's membership both from hardcore gamers and casual ones too. But since many of these players have done all that WoW has to offer, they're bailing and going to other games. I think WoW has experienced the pinnacle of it's glory and now will start to implode.

I compare the success of WoW to a "Supernova". A Supernova is a star that explodes and becomes one of the brightest objects in space. But after the explosion it slowly fades and eventually disappears.

Unfortunately I feel that this will be the future of MMO gaming. We wont be seeing many games have the longevity of games like Everquest. Most will flare up with a high number of subscribers for a year or two but then dwindle down to just a small cult following. After all there's only so much you can do in a game before it becomes old.

If Burning Crusade's hype isnt all its hyped up for do you think WoW will fail since its already been completed by so many?

Technically, WoW can't fail at this point even if they close down tomorrow. They've made so many bucketloads of money that WoW was a runaway success by any possible definition of the word. To answer the intent of your question, imho WoW has many years left before they even begin to see anything like red ink in their accounting books.

WOW's not going anywhere...sure the numbers will ebb and flow with each new expansion.  The deciline with continue as the years wear on but it wouldnt surprise me to see it hit its 5th anniversary with a decent sized player base (i.e. one that still makes money).

Unless of course Blizz released World of Starcraft......  image

WoW is not dead sadly enough.  It messes up people's life..  its a dumb game anyways. No fun at all for me.  The fighting sucks balls also.  Just my opinion.

If you didn't have that last sentence there, i would've e-kicked you.

Messes up people's lives? Come on don't troll just because you like the game (im not playing it..game is too boring). But still, just say its not fun for you, don't disembowel it like that.

Now Dark & Light is a game to disembowel and shit on. Not this one. (my opinion)

lol.  One of my friends.  He loves WoW so much he won't stop playing.  Been playing it since the month it came out and he won't stop.  He's alway son the computer.  Its amazing he isn't a fatass yet.  He turned into a real douche to.  He lost all his friends because of WoW.

I dont even like WoW but it does have something going for it. It can't pull an SWG and try and copy some other game in an attempt to seem cool, because WoW is what everyone else is copying.
Im not saying WoW is innovative or originall but just that games are basically following the WoW dynamic or jumping on the bangwagon with older games.

The only way I see WoW kicking the bucket is if some new game comes out that is so sensational that someone at blizzard says " Hey look at them. They've got something new and popular. Let's try and copy them to boost subscriber numbers and forget about the people who've been paying for our game for years." (SOE's idea if u cudnt tell)

Lord of the Rings Online is the only MMORPG in the near future i see that has a cold snowball's chance in hell to topple WoW...but with Turbine's track record so far...and being the only game developer in the world to be able to trash the godfather of all RPG material...Dungeons and Dragons...the future is bleak.  Very bleak.

All I know is that WOW has been nothing more to me than a stopgap measure until better games come out.  Ol' Fugnudz is waiting for any serious new MMORPG (probably Vanguard), and then jumping ship.

Well I don't have much to say to all the dommsayers... I really doubt WoW is in trouble of going anywhere anytime soon.. let alone getting dethroned.

On a seperate but somewhat related note.. who has seen the awesome new WoW commercial on tv? The officespace one.... haha, gotta love it.

Alright to back up some data, when I say 7% of players have stopped playing. Blizzard once a month does a census on all the accounts they have current they averaged this over a few months and found 7% of their players to have closed their accounts or completely left. People do leave on and off for many reasons, money, RL, other games for a little bit. But when you think of WoW as a whole. What is new? OMG NAXX? Ok well lets get into more depth with this topic someone like say a lvl 60 Orc Hunter has just gotten all his Crypstalker and his best bow he can get. What is he gonna do now? Make an alt get it to 60 and do the same. People have many complaints here are the top ten.

    1. WoW is too easy (72% of the accounts in WoW have a lvl 60 character)

    2. WoW never changes just changes the names of items (Did you know that 22% of the models and wow are the same just tweaked in little spots. You lowbies all look the same)

    3. EVERYONE LOOKS THE SAME (All 60s have the same gear whether its Tier 1/2/3 Pvp Set. Its all the same why dont we add some dyes?)

    4. Community are assholes- (Blizzard sends out more warnings a week then there are total players do to harassment but sadly people are never booted for simply making fun of soemone unless it gets serious as in race or religion)

    5. Roleplayers are not liked-( we see the RP servers but did you know that more then 45% of the players on the servers never RP and just use these servers cause they are lower Population then the other ones.)

    6. Game was meant for high end players-( most of wows content is after 60 sure there are a ton of instances before 60 but if you play the game its all to be 60 and kill Nef)

    7. Boring-( Players now say that nothing changes PvP is always the same old people owning, getting from 1-60 takes less then a week, and the my Super Nintendo amuses me more)

    8. Graphics- Sadly i disagree WoW's graphics are quite amazing they are cartoonish for the mere fact that its fantasy and its what they look like. I love WoW's scenery probably the biggest eye catcher.

    9. No Skill- This is a big debate whether WoW requires skill or just good gear? ( On average the Grand Marshal or Warlods are players who spend more then 8 hours a day pvping, does this mean they are good?)

    10. Bad Story- I disagree with this one as well, although WoW's story has been changed slightly to accomadate new instances and such it does have one of the best Lores of any game i have ever seen.

All data and facts found in this are from a source within Blizzard (sadly i cant say)
