Lineage II - A Comaparison (Is it worth it???)

KwaidanKwaidan Member Posts: 3

I just started playing FFXI (about 2 months) and heard about Lineage II. I bought the bonus cd to access the beta. Played the beta and am wondering what the major deal is about the game and not sure if it's worth buying in place of FFXI. I know it's the beta and all but it seems like it's lacking character. It's like it's too straight forward (repetitive). Compared to FFXI the game is lacking IMO. I tried equipping a hat and it didn't even show up on the character and the missions are so boring...you talk to some dood and a window pops up to tell you what to do (boring). FFXI has cut scenes and some interesting ways to get you to do missions. I don't want to bash the game but I'm not impressed so far. The graphics are ok but when I compare to FFXI it's not as good. The clothing and detail in FFXI is amazing...I don't see this from Lineage II (except for the butt cheeks that hang out of the womens' skirt when you are running...lol). I guess I'd like to get some opinions from FFXI players. All comments are welcome!

Sorry for such a long post :)

to tell you the truth i played both games and both of them suck except i rather replace ffxi with l2 becuase who the hell wants that script crap for a mmorp its sad and it drives me nuts someone that stupid would do such as a thing to call it a mmorpg they should stick to the god danm consoles

a job of a lorer is to preach the history of chaos with out the lorer of chaos all would be in chaos

Both are not really worth paying. Lineage 2 is for players who wants to solo and FFXI is for party players. I personally like playing lineage 2 more than FFXI because I don't like big parties and I don't like FFXI's fighting system. (I also like how you can openly pk someone in lineage 2 and also Castle seiges are fun too).  I would rather pay to play world of warcraft or maybe EQ2.

Wow, what a great Topic. I myself am wondering the same thing if I should replace FFXI with Lineage 2. From what ive seen, the graphics and cut scenes from FFXI dominate, however the music from Lineage2 is unbeatable. Gameplay looks fun in both games however the class system isnt all that interesting to me (i heard they are horribly nerfing the Ranger class in the first patch).

All in all, I would probably rather play Final Fantasy XI image

Lineage 2 is pretty amazing. Splendid graphics and rich environments. But like one member said about pkers, with this game some people will like it, some people won't. I am still judging if this is the game for me. I will be buying FFXI soon to give it a try.

These two games are very different in concept and design and a choice between them would probably have to be based on what you as a player want from a mmorpg rather then which is "better" then the other.

Graphically Lineage 2 is so far ahead of FFXI that there cant really be a comparison.  The crisp graphics and amazing variety of selections in armor styles and just overall quality in Lineage 2 puts it among the very best mmorpgs graphically.  FFXI's grainy and simplistic graphics are actually decent but just not good enough to be compared imo.

As far as gameplay FFXI has more variety in quests, missions and side tasks.  FFXI has more storyline and varied locations that creates an intriguing world.

On the other hand L2 has a very different combat style that is very fun and has the whole castle siege/clan war piece.

Overall I think FFXI is a more polished game that is well rounded and provides a larger variety of things to do.  Lineage 2 is less well rounded but on the things it does do it does them far better then FFXI.

I am not sure how long Lineage 2 will keep me entertained but I know that FFXI got old very fast.  Though L2 is a bit more on the simple side in some ways I would far prefer to crawl through its levels to beating on the same pink beach ball for 70 levels in FFXI.

Both are good games, that mostly just leaves them up to personal taste.

Kwaidan- Let me just say that you have been asking everybody else their opinion when you have simply denied the one that matters most, yours.  If you're in the L2 beta and your not liking it, then why in the heck would you buy it.  I personaly think that we as gamers in the mmorpg genra rely far to heavly on other peoples opinion and far to often don't listen to ourselves.  Don't just tell yourself everything will be ok, like some abused housewife, who refuses leave her spouce.  You need to conciously make a effort to controll your own destandy.  Don't listen to these bozos, listen to your heart, and you'll find the answer that you seek.

ya, this topic is interesting to say the least

Currently Im playing FFXI and enjoying it very much.  And at the same time I enjoy the graphics of L2.  Each game has their bad points --> FFXI doesnt really have a whole lot of diverse enemies to choose from and L2 seems to be a straight forward Hack and slash Korean style MMORPG.

It's going to be hard to choose

I'll probably buy L2 and give it some time....if I dont like it Ill go back to FFXI

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

I dont know what wrong with your eyes, but the graphics in lineage2 are far greater than FFXI's graphics, as misti stated earlier.  In fact, from what Ive read from various people, lineage2 is among the best graphic mmorpgs.

I've played both FFXI and Lineage2, and in my opinion lineage2 is better.  Other than graphics I really havn't noticed much difference in the games other than FFXI needs parties, and Lineage2 doesnt need parties as much.  Quests are pretty much the same, except for cut scenes, which aren't really that important.  Both games are pretty much just kill monsters and level up all day.  However, lineage2 has a large focus on PVP and wars, which in my opinion places it above FFXI, while FFXI doesn't have that at the moment, although I believe they are going to implement PVP soon.

I believe Lineage2 will probably also be better than many upcoming MMORPGS, because all MMORPGS are pretty much just made to fight monsters and lv up.  The only MMORPG I have seen that was not like that was Ultima Online, which, if all MMORPGS took their skill system, I believe would make them much better.

Shoot...I wrote a long post and it didn't even post. Anyway, bottom line: it's personal pref over anything. I will stick to FFXI for now...PvP is coming and it has a story and cutscenes to pull me through.

About the graphics.....I meant the animated movements and detail that went into the characters...they are fluid unlike L2. The weapons and armor are really nicely detailed unlike L2. You are right about the graphics if you are talking about landscapes. L2 has better landscapes but it's not enought to pull me to L2 right now anyway.

The L2 gameplay was exciting at first but got boring after a while (kinda like SWG).

Anyway....I'm not bashing L2, it's still a good game, but not good enough to pull me away from FFXI.

I don't want to repeat most of the posts here, however it is about your taste. Maybe you have been a Final Fantasy fan for so long, that you are almost convinced it is better than all (Hey! There -are- people like that out there!)! However, graphically and the elements of Lineage II are far more updated than FFXI. Lineage II isn't even released yet!

Besides that, I was even comparing the two. Of course, I have been waiting for Lineage II for such a long time now, that I'm choosing this over FFXI. However, with FFXI I noticed the "blocky" and "pixely" graphics. Edges look fuzzy, and not clean like Lineage II is. (:

I've seen this from quite a few people and am curious about the adjectives "blocky" and "pixely".  I run a GeForce4 TI4600 with 128MB on the highest graphics settings and don't notice the blocky or pixely graphics.  Everything seems very smooth to me.  Could you please tell us what card and settings you use?  Thanks. image

maybe you just dont notice it, or maybe you use antialiasing, but from when i used to play i remember reading that the majority of people for some reason cant run FFXI and antialiasing, it just seems to not affect the game at all, which would show why it would be "blocky or pixely", however i remember hearing that a few people ( i don't know if they were lying or what) were able to actually play the game with antialiasing.

I dont know dude, I still think the L2 Models and animations are better than the ffxi, but you might be right about the textures.  However, some things I like about FFXI include the translator, and the night into day complete with the sun setting and rising.

    Keep in mind I have never played FFXI -- However, my graphics card is a Mobility Radeon 7500, with 128MB as well. I was referring to screenshots I've seen and that all depends on the card and such for the people that TOOK the screenshots. Sorry for the small mistake there. (;

  • I played FFXI to pretty to the mid levels several times on several different jobs. I got EXTREMLY bored of it. I could not stand grouping in FFXI ... no one knew how to group and actualy come out ahead after it. I eventualy made a bst/whm so I could level on my own, then I realized how repetitively tiresome the fighting can get. And then NO character personal development is offered other than level level level .. You'll see your twin countless times and spend 1000 extra gil on your new armor only for it look like your previous one!!!!!!!!!! Played for 2 months tops hoping that the retard newbs would weed out and end game would get better ... didn't happen.

I'm also beta testing Linage 2 and I hardly log into it, I do like the solo but it's a bit to much. The graphics at first was enough to convence me .. but as I got further my liking of it dropped. I am one that doesn't like PvP and I hate it when some level 30 guy comes and kills my newbie that I'm messing around with. I also don't really like how only certain races can have certain jobs ... while they keep them fairly equal it still stucks to be an artisan you HAVE to be a drawf. (but drawfs are cool) .. It just doesn't make scince that drawfs can build stuff .. yet all the other races are smart too and did thier towns just magicaly pop up along with armor and weapons????

All in all, I'm probally not a fan of either after having played them both. They just seem to be lacking something that gives the game a balance. So once more I'm in my search for the perfect MMORPG (will there ever be one?) for me to play.

Kwaidan ur also forgetting that L2 is currently in CB with a very bare bones version of the game...

the next 2 updates alone (Prelude and chronicle 1) increase content by a large amount... alot of the little bugs and stuff you find now are fixed in the prelude update, and then the chronicle comes in and polishes it all up...

i've played upto chronicle in Korean, and i gotta say... bare bones version compared to chronicle is like 2 different games... if ur gonna judge a game, at least judge the WHOLE game...

comparing a bare version of L2 to a polished version of FFXI isnt really a fare comparison at all... try it with chronicle 1 or at least prelude (which hits on the 22nd) and then come back here and give ur oppinion

So, Chronicles is that different eh? Maybe you're right.......I'll reserve judgement and wait and see then.

    Thanks for the post.

  • I'm waiting for the wipe and open beta. But right now I just don't have the urdge to play for fun value .. I just mainly explore and try out new race/class options.

I'm loving Lineage2, even with the little content we have!  I'll be here come launch, and hopefully for a long time after!

There are a couple other good looking games out there, I'll agree...but as of now, the only other game I am greatly awaiting is Dark & Light, which I would prefer over this game, but seeing D&L got bumped....HELLO LINEAGE2....and as of now, I'm glad it happened!

Where are you finding the fun in it? I mean I like the work they have gone through to make a seemless very beautiful world. The characters are awsome, armor is ok but still the same stuff in the early game.

However, I don't find it to be much fun. I don't know if it's because of the wipe. But I don't feel like going out and fighting. I can't stand PvP so I don't fight unless fought. I would like to see some of the other stuff that people keep talking about. But maybe I've been overlooking something.

I'm just curious.  Why would you want to play a game that is to be geared to PvP if you can't stand it?

  • I thought it was more guild PvP than just clear out of the blue some one comes and PK's while your resting after just attacking 4 monsters straight.

I don't mind guild wars, but sheer pointless PKing I don't like. Guess I should have made that more clear.

  • ngohailongngohailong Member Posts: 12

I played the Korean beta (long story, but I can get in those stuff ^^ Thanks you connections)

From my experience, LN2 is sweet, crazy and good game.

It's only boring if you don't like levelling alone though (its more fun because its risky, but the best usually solo). From my experience the graphics are killer and *gasp* not too demanding... but the problem is it because a ressource hog on crowded towns more then ever. I remember killing 6000 dryads to level up... Lireins were being camped all day long.

Even at night there would be koreans there, to play.

Oh, and added bonus, if you zoom well you can see the girls panties ;D It was an odd clipping problem I had once, but they ACTUALLY have pantis graphics....

  • Rad_RooferRad_Roofer Member Posts: 153

Your missing out on the PvP action.  In the city of Guidon...err can't remeber spelling, anyway, there was a whole bunch of PKers strolling the area.  Partaking in the killing of the PKers is where I found my fun!

This is just one instance.  Running around of course is simply beautiful!  And the world is huge already...just wait until the rest of it is opened up!  PHEW~that'll take a while to explore it!

Alot of it though, you make your own fun!  I'm active in the !talk...and always helping out the noobs.  In fact, I'm sure I gave away more $$$$ than what I spent on my own equipment!

But anyway....the game is great IMO!  PvP Rocks!

I have played FFXI sense NA release i currently have a level 50 paladin. I am also in closed beta for Lineage 2. I personally like Lineage2 better becuase its a clan and pvp based game not just a pvp based game as many people are saying. I found that FFXI was fun at first but as it progressed the lack of pvp and a good clan system has really led the game to become a big bore. I am pretty confident that L2 graphics kick FFXI graphics outa the water despite what some people are saying. Yes FFXI does have cut scenes but being rank 7 i can tell u the story is more then lacking. It wasnt nearly enough to push me to play more. The constant need for a group(with a healer) can grow tiresome another aspect that L2 supplies relief for. Is it worth swaping as someone who has played a good amount ofboth games i would say hell yes. Also for those who are openly bashing both games on this forum I am led to believe u have not played either one enough to make a comment you are probly avid EQ players or WoW hopefulls. Witch there is nothing wrong with but you should not come on here and bash games u have little play time in. Also for everyone who is saying well if you like PvP you will like L2 as if thats all it has to offer while it is a big and fun part of it, the clan and territory rule aspects are also a major part.

P.S. For all those bashers out their dont jump on and say that both games are crap and WoW is gonna be better or EQ2 is gonna be better without stateing why. It is really annoying when someone goes "those games are both not worht it get WoW or get EQ2" and they say nothing to back it up. Unless you have played EQ2 or have gotten a chance to play in depth in WoW (witch i doubt you have) You really cant back it up so untill you can you should just keep WHAT YOU THINK IS BETTER to yourself.
