American for both watching and playing. The only reason soccer is so popular is because it involves almost no equipment to play, hence so many children grow up around it...the sport itself is boring to the point of obscenity...but I would still rather watch soccer than baseball.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
American. Because the games are High Scoring, Exciting, and a bit more complicated.
Soccer/Football, not so much. I've yet to crack open a beer with friends while we all crowd around the TV rooting for a team. The game is a bit simpler, and isn't as brutal. Scores are few and far between. Its more like basketball to me (which I don't find all that interesting either). Watch the players go to one end of the court, then watch the players run back to the other end of the court, then watch them run back to the first end, Ad nauseum.
Soccer is fun to play (Most sports are) But I would find it hard to watch a game. Football is fun to play and watch. But really, its all just a matter of opinion.

I dunno about that one. :P I've heard it can get pretty nasty when there aren't as many tight regulations on penalties. (And of course if the players haven't decided to be pansies and fake injuries. Which is the MOST annoying thing to watch.) In a way, that's more brutal since you aren't covered in padding...rather the only thing you're wearing that is anything like padding is maybe a shin guard that complements your socks.
Seems to me, most American football injuries stem from torn tendons that are a result from trying to sprint in all that padding. Getting slammed by another guy as big as you may look brutal, but I don't think there's as much pain involved as one would think.

Sorry, but there is nothing brutal about soccer...every hit that worth watching is a penalty...yes, I've watched soccer games, I've watched a lot of them, and there is nothing brutal about the game except for how boring it is. Say what you want about the pads that Football players wear as opposed to the pads that Rugby players wear, but you have to take into consideration that the contact in football is much faster and harder than it is in Rugby...if they didn't wear pads, they would kill eachother.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Soccer has a lot of serious lower body injuries due to there being little protection. The fact that you're not constantly watching your ass for hard hits also makes for another factor for injury in soccer. Overall I've heard soccer is one of the top sports when it comes to injuries/player ratio. So in a sense soccer is quite brutal.
If I want to go watch tackles, I go watch hockey. Football is too sporratic for my taste. Hockey and soccer have less breaks while football is mostly just waiting for a play to happen. I suggest hockey for any of you sports fans out there, it's the most exciting game to watch in my opinion. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
Well at least football's more exciting than the other great American sport, baseball...
Footbal ftw!!!! Nothing beats a good football game, and seeing a good game in the stadium, with the firms (whatever you call it, heard this name in Green Street Hooligans) roaring and preparing new things for each big game is just priceless.... nothing like watching an american football game (which I neverr did, but I know the ambient isn't nearly as cool).
I got to say it though, amercian football must be really cool to play... tackling left and right. Wohoo
Football (soccer), because it takes way more practise and skill to become a pro. It is also more violent (i know that may sound strange..but.. If you doubt that, then watch the Netherlands vs Portugal game in the last World Cup). I find American Football boring because the play continually stops. Every time someone is tackled, the game stops (that is also why i do not like baseball). Also, there is now way a player can get seriously injured in American Football because they are wearing as much body armour as a Medieval Knight.
Football by FAR. If you ask me, American Football is so incredibly boring to watch its not even funny anymore. I have YET to see any "trick" or "move" in american football that impressed me. It might be very hard to perform, and I probably can't do it, but by no means does it look impressive.
Imo, Football is an art. American Football are a few big guys running and bashing into each other, which is probably the reason close to nobody outside America gives a damn about the sport. Football on the other hand is the most played sport and if I'm not mistaken (I'm sure I read it somewhere) the worldcup football is the most watched program on television world wide. does American Football even have a world cup?

I agree. Look at say Rugby Union or Rugby League. Pretty much the only thing your not allowed to do is spear tackle & going above the shoulders. Don't need all the padding fellas.

How so? Children in the UK play rugby, which is also a contact sport, in schools with only a cup and the ball.
American Football is pretty boring, to whatch and play.
I played soccer when I was a little bit younger and had some fun. Could not get that much into it because I was a big child and could not run as fast or for as long as the other kids. But I play american football now in school in PE (I am even bigger now) and I do not find it fun at all.
Ah, what I predicted. Those who think of football is for, for lack of a better word, is for pussies. Yes, a very talented team such as Chelsea can play like a team and pass all around the other team and not get touched, but most games are not like that. Most football games involve an extent of tackles and tough shoulder to shoulder dribbling.
I have respect for AF.
Ok, we have to do this. Get the Pro bowl teams combined vs Italy in first an AF game, then a Football game, and see who gets closer to each other in each game.

it's called the Super Bowl, and is played by the teams in the NFL..there is a European version of the NFL, but from everything that I have gathered, they suck at the sport for some reason.
American's generally dislike soccer for a few reasons:
1: We like contact, and no matter what you say, two guys running shoulder to shoulder trying to get a ball isn't exciting, and slide tackling is lame.
2: We like games that move quickly, despite football's short bursts of playing, when the game itself is in motion, it's the fastest that there is, bar none...soccer takes way too long to get anything done.
3: We like an element of strategy...football is a strategic game, saying that it's a game with big guys running around smashing into eachother and nothing more shows a great deal of ignorance about how the game is played. I realize that soccer teams have gameplans, but the strategy of football shines due its frequent stopages and individual plays.
4: We like scoring...oh my sweet lord does soccer need to take a few guys off of the field to allow for more scoring.
5: We already have three major sports, and a fourth secondary sport, baseball, football, basketball, and the secondary sport is Hockey. We don't have time to be watching ALL of the sports.
Pluss...You know how Americans are, we like to do our own thing. Public transportation? Screw that, I'm American, give me my own car...What always gets me are the people who have never played football who try to say that football players don't need the pads...guys, play the game, then tell me that you don't need pads. We had the star player on our soccer team as a kicker on our football team a few years ago, we sent him in on a tackling drill one time just so that he could see what it was like...he tackled one of the weakest guys on the team, and he comes back over to me when he was done and says "Joe...dude that fucking hurt like hell" Despite all those pads, taking hits, and even giving out hits, freaking hurts...even with that thick helmet, people still get concussions. I gave a guy a concussion my sophomore year of high school just by tackling him...the pads are necessary or else people would be getting destroyed on a regular basis.
