In my personnal opinion, it will be far better but then again... I Like player housing, I like getting lost, I like long leveling, I love crafting, I like boats that requires alot of patience to travel with. I like challenges and my guild does not want to ONLY raid. We want to make a city and flourish it....
WOW... your a wanderer doing raids for better loots. Many if not most of the MMO gamers these days prefer something like that. It's a matter of taste but hardcore players of the second generation of MMO will have a hard time adapting to a game like Vanguard.
You are basically jumping from an easy MMO to a more robust and complexe one.
WoW = simplified mmo that uses a large fan base (blizzard) to draw new people into a genre. it work, they make money, but as i said, it's "carebear" as we used to call it back in the day. I'm not saying it's bad, im saying it's not my cup of tea
Vanguard = I *HOPE* that it is a more mature and rewarding game that incorporates knowledge of both game and community coherence. The link of the company to eq1 will bring back many of the eq1 players that eq2 did not satisfy. Whether of not it will make the bucks that WoW will if up for grabs. my opinion is no, but vanguard will quench my thirst more than WoW ever could, thus making it a BETTER GAME FOR ME.

The community has been superlative in my experience.
I think Vanguard will be better than WoW in the sense that it will be more complex and have more for mature, intelligent gamers to utilize and experience. It won't have the allure to bring in the WoW crowd, and it may not have much draw on foreign subscribers either. However, it is likely to be a very big success...
Will any game coming out be competition for WoW in subscriber base, going over even the 1 million mark? Possibly. If any game, my money would be on the Warhammer Online release. I have heard some people saying Age of Conan could hit some high numbers, but I don't quite get that game yet. It doesn't seem to offer much in the way of unique features or innovations... It seems to be more mature and violent than other MMOs out there, but is that all it has going for it? And I hear there is a single-player component to the game before you get into the multiplayer... That sounds like trouble to me, but we'll have to wait until they come out with more info and beta stuff...
Anyway, Vanguard looks like it will be really good...
Subscribers: Not a chance. Quality of game: Not a chance. Polish: Not a chance. Stability: probably not. Smooth release: No. Content: No Complexity: Yes. Depth: Hopefully yes. Challenge: Yes. Size of world: Yes. Crafting and housing: Yes Fun: Remains to be seen. Dungeons: Hopefully yes. Classes: We will see. Combat: We will see. Quests: No. Endgame: Vanguard has to be better. Time to level: Vanguard heads and tails better. Meaningfull Death Penalty: Yes. Community: It has to be better. Ships: Yes Player built cities: Yes, eventually. Graphics: A matter of taste but WoW's better graphical animations, better artwork, and better character models look superior to Vanguard's amazing vistas. Hardwore requirements: No. Races: Yes. Travel: Yes. Mounts: Yes. Factions and NPC interaction: Hopefully yes.
First, I look at graphics because come on if you dont care about graphics you better stick to muds and I care about graphics ALOT and how good it will run on my pc. Currently comparing WoW vids from warcraftmovies.com to Vanguard vids from vanguardvault.ign.com it is clearly WoW has superior graphics.
Second, Strong community is big plus for me. Again can't say anything here because game isnt even released yet.
Third, I enjoy lots of content PvE aswell as PvP. Can't say anything here because you need to actually play to judge.
So overall I can only say based on graphics that this game isn't for me. I would rather stick with game that has better graphics which is WoW. I do agree that Vanduard has some awesome things like ships and own houses which will attract people.
I'd say Vanguard has a high chance of a yes there, I mean they've got 22GB of game files, theres gotta be a lot of content there.
My bets are on AoC or Warhammer though, Vanguard, if I pick it up (waiting to try it out first) will be something to tide me over till those two come out. Who knows though, it could end up turning out amazing, but thats why I keep my expectations low.
The reports I've read from beta-testers have all been really bad. I think Vanguard is going to tank harder than SWG based on those.
However, even if it was a success, Vanguard will never be as successful as WoW. If Vanguard can attract and keep a playerbase of 100K, then I think this will be a success given the very exclusive hardcore game design.

You mean the reports from the NDA breakers, some of which have been proven to have been made up? So the few few NDA Breakers out-weigh the thousands of testers that haven't broken their NDA's? There are quite a few Beta Reviews out there on MANY sites that completely disagree with them, quite a few more then Bad "Leaks" out there, but haters don't seem to count those. The game is in BETA, of course there will be issues with it...
Vanguard will have 500k to 1 mil in subs, but won't kill WoW. Now AoC may be a WoW killer, that is if they can pull it off...
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
Mainly I'm just hoping that Vanguard will put the challenge back into MMO's. As a current WoW player who used to be an EQ player I never once had any of the excitement or feelings from killing anything in WoW as I did in EQ. I remember going to Lower Guk and being scared to death that something was gonna pop out and eat me as well as enjoying the awesome experience of Kelethin and killing Cazic Thule for the first time. WoW on the other hand made it so easy that people could level from 1-60 in 3 weeks and by the 3rd month every single NPC encounter had been beaten. In EQ I dont think anyone even reached 40 by the first month.

Will you promise to eat this post if you are wrong?
I can't reveal my sources like you, so I can't support my position. However, I can tell you that it is stronger than you might think.
Also, don't trust "beta reviews" for betas that are under NDA. They had to be granted permission to break the NDA and that wouldn't happen if the information did not remain controlled either through the selection of the "reporters" or requests to not talk about areas of the game that are still under construction and/or aren't working.
100K subscribers is pretty healthy. Don't assume that this is a bad estimate. I think Vanguard will really appeal to extremely hardcore gamers and there are quite a few of them out there. I don't know that there are 100K of them, but then again, I don't know if there are 200K. What will kill it even for hardcore gamers is if the execution of the game is poor and/or the visuals are not competitive (this includes battle animations). Also, the game needs to be stable and fun.
Anyway, I suggest to you that it is in your best interest to spend $5 for the pre-order beta code in order to get a chance to play the game before making your final purchase decision.

Trust me, when Vanguard releases, you will see just how much better the Vanguard graphics are than WoW. It's no contest.
I'm not trying to get you riled up anarchyart but I personally despise the phrase "Trust me" especially when used on a game that has'nt been released yet.
I don't trust you. Hell, I don't trust ANYONE. No one can say whether someone else will like a game...or meatloaf...or my mouthwatering homemade tamales :P
This is the bottom line. People need to try a game first. They need to experience it for themselves and let their own personal tastes decide whether they like something or not. And more choices in the MMORPG market are definately an awesome thing.
Hell...if an outstanding horror MMORPG would make it's way to the gaming world. I'd be all over it...graphics not really cutting edge? I don't care. Storyline that's involved and is full of shocks and suspense? I'm there. Gameplay that's rewarding...I'm also there.
Never use the argument "Trust me".
Never be afraid of choices. More choices are always good things.

Better?...That depends greatly on your own point of view.
In my point of View. No it won't.

"Better" is purely a matter of opinion. Will Vanguard have as many or close to as many subscribers? No.
The only game coming out this year with the potential to have subs in the multi millions is AoC IMO.
