I just got enough skill to buy a Y-Wing the other day, and I joined one of the biggest Rebel squadrons on the server. We went and attacked an Imperial space station, and we fired our photon torpedos like "SHOOSH SHOOSH!" But then the station sent out TIE Fighters and they came at us at full speed and were all like "WHIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEERRRR!" and they shot at us like "Pa-ying! Pa-ying!" and one of my clannies got pod killed. I was about to get killed too but then my clan officer saved my ass and he was all like "owiahnfwn" on the Imperial and he pod killed him too.

Originally posted by Arcticblue Well to those who bash on EVE here... sorry you guys did not give it a try. I have been playing EVE-Online for almost 3 years now, I found it very interesting from the beginning up to now. I remember back when I started the game where I had to fight to get my first cruiser and how I lost it to some pirates when we where in Low Sec, looking over our shoulders after them :-) The daily downtime is there for a reason, it resets the server so it runs smoothly, it gives the Dev's a small window where they can put in fix'es... and even better... it gives people a reason to get to bed in time where they don't sit 24/7 up on the game !!!, it also is used to respawn ore and so, without those downtimes things might not have looked so smoothly in EVE. And what most people probably don't know... it is not really 1 hour, sometimes it is only 15 minutes/30 minutes... I don't feel punished when I loose a ship, I know I get something back and it takes me less than a week to build a battleship from scratch!!!! and it makes me think twice on what I did wrong and how to improve me.
IMHO I see more people going after Eve-Online fans then the game itself. Most people that dislike the game even in their own words hate it. Really don't go as far as to say they think it sucks. A good deal of them just say that it's not their type of game, or even that it's just not fun. I think those are much better responses then "it sucks".
As for the 2nd half of your post. People are just different. Different taste, different playstyles, different ways of thinking, and different points of views. Alot of people that dislike Eve-Online, find the features you admire. To be down right against their own playstyle, hence why they do not like the game. The idea that someone could create a game that appeals to everyone, just isn't feasible. Eve-Online fans should be happy with the success that CCR/Eve-Online has had up till, and happy with the game itself. There is no need to jump on every post talking about how much this person, or that person dislikes Eve-Online. Trying to persaude them that they must be wrong, and Eve-Online is the greatest game ever. People are just different. What might float your ship, might sink someone elses. (no pun intended)
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
I tried to enjoy EVE and put in the time and took various routes to try and have it be a fun game for me. I ended up hating it. The mind numbing length of time it takes to achieve anything worthwhile in the game (not to mention merely trying to survive amongst the uber players) and the constant bullying that goes on was just too much for me.
Too the storyline, which was a major reason I started playing the game, took a considerable backseat to actual player interaction in game creating inconsistancies and conflicts of logic that made the game all the more frustrating.
All in all if the community was for the most part friendly I might have stayed but the game now lends itself so much to player on player abuse that it's really not worth being part of the friendly minority.

This is how you get wow and wow-clones.
MMORPGS are not games.
Seriously now, this was meant to be sarcastic, right? Please tell be you were being sarcastic. I might have an aneurysm just thinking about how someone could be dumb enough to make a statement like that, and yet still have enough brain-function to allow them to turn on a computer and type without poking an eye out.
I'm currently nearing the end of my 7 day trial of Eve and I gotta admit, I really want to like this game.
Yes it takes forever to get around the game world. That's something of a double edged sword. The long travel times allow me to attend to my life in between major activities. Being able to walk away from the game and do some house work or look after the kids is a godsend when you have a family. On the other hand, you have to spend a long time logged in the game. How long? So long that they built a web browser into the interface so you could check your real world email and news.
Gaining money is a kind of pushme-pullyou kind of thing. You can get cash fairly easily for new ships and what not, but you have to engage in some high-risk behavior to make the big, big money. The best example is running Courier contracts. Some of these contracts pay upwards of 300,000 ISK. The downside of being a delivery boy is that most runs go into 0.4 space. As stated earlier, you can't warp to within 0km and dock using the autopilot. If you're a newbie and running courier, you're almost certain to get jumped once you reach your target system. Not a big deal when you're in the beginner ship, but frustrating to people that aren't ready for it. There are also agent missions that have substantial payouts and braindead NPC opponents, but they ramp up in difficulty pretty quickly. If you don't read the Ships section of the Eve forums and research popular ship builds, you're going to be toast, over and over again.
I like the fact that you're allowed to follow whatever path you choose in the game and that the emphasis is placed on players interacting with each other. On closer inspection though, you realize that you're limited to being a trader, courier, miner, bounty hunter, pirate, or assassin. The major replay value coming from trying to acquire ships that fill each role so you can switch and do what ever you're in the mood for during any given session.
As for training skills offline, I LOVE this feature. If I just want to concentrate on advancing my character, which is what you do when you just start out, I only have to log in for 15 minutes or so, a couple of times a day. This is the part of the game that has you mining a lot. Of course, after about 2 days of sporadic mining, and running the first two agent missions you'll have enough money to buy a better ship and take some bigger risks.
I'm still not sure if I want to go ahead and subscribe, but I realize that 7 days isn't really enough time to get a handle on everything this game has to offer. It's a good game, but it's slow. Very, very,........ slllllllloooooooowwwwwww.........

It has, Imo, too many flaws, and the main one for me is downtime. Every MMORPG is trying to reduce downtime as much as possible, yet EVE doesn't seem to even try to remove downtime. For everything you do you have to WAIT. entering a space station, Combat, mining heck, even such as simple as picking up loot takes a good 10~30 seconds. its always wait, wait, wait. you sure need a lot of patience for EVE, thats for sure.
I don´t usually bother replying to your constant trolling of every thread that has the slightest connection to EVE but I guess I´ll make you happy this time.
What you said is complete BS. There most definetly isn´t any 10-30 sec delay when you loot or enter station. I just checked how long it takes me to enter stating from pressing dock and it was about 3 secs and looting window pops instantly.
First, learn what trolling actually means.
Next, I never said that entering the station takes 10~30 seconds, get your facts right. Even if your close to the station it takes quite some time to actually fly to the station. Ofcourse looting window pops up instantly...after you spend a good 10~30 seconds flying towards the loot to pick itu p. So tell me... when you're out in the wildernes in EQ... WoW... Horizons or any other game for that matter.... How long does it take you to get to the city before you can enter it? That has to be the most stupid statement I've ever read.
As for looting: Even in UO or DAOC you have to actually be at the corpse to loot. If it dies far away you have to walk/run over to it before you can loot it. In EVE sure it takes a little longer to get there (if you don't have tractor beams) but it really isn't all that bad.
As to the flying to stations/stargates? You might want to check your facts. Revelations fixed that.

I didnt bother reading the past posts in this thread in great detail as these kind of topics are pretty pointless to me nowadays but this one stood out.
I thought you should take into account that those other games dont try to house 30k people on the same server at the exact same time with no instances. You see the daily 1 hour downtime is there just to make sure things keep on [relitivly] running smoothly. Its because other games operate differntly that they dont need regular offline time for cleaning.

Yes, you need to be over the body. It doesn't change the fact though that looting in EVE mostly takes time to get to the body. I remember during my time of trying the game that I would just Alt+Tab while going to head over to loot because of how long it took.
As to the flying to stations/stargates? You might want to check your facts. Revelations fixed that.
He already mentioned that he was wrong on that. No need to try and nail him with it again.

He already mentioned that he was wrong on that. No need to try and nail him with it again. This isn't directed at Nadril as his post was rebuttal towards Taram. But basically it just points out why there is so much hostility towards Eve-Online fans. It's almost like they can't fantom the idea that someone doesn't like Eve-Online. Most of them bring up the same points over and over again when trying to make a case for why Eve-Online is so great.
Oh it has 30,000 people on at once. And? Oh it's just too complex for you. What? Oh you just lack patience to play. Excuse me?
Just accept that not everyone likes your game. Stop thinking that everytime someone says Eve-Online is a niche game, that it's a personal attack on you. How can you expect people to take Eve-Online fans seriously, when all you show us is. That you have no respect for anyone that doesn't endlessly praise Eve-Online. Not everyone is going to like Eve-Online, that is just a fact of life. The sooner you realize this the sooner you can get back to enjoying your game, and not posting in every Eve-Online thread that pops up.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Eve is very much a slow paced game. I could be playing the markets and making mad cash, but at that point it's just playing with numbers on a spreadsheet, not really playing a game. Many of the boring actions, like mining, have to be done at the keyboard. Meanwhile, other actions, like manufacturing and training, happen even when not at the keyboard or at the game even.
And for all of the complexities of the game, shields, armor, engines, ect are all built into the ship hull. Rats spawn out of nowhere and create an influx of cash. NPCs buy and sell goods that sever no in game purpose and they do so fairly arbitrarily. The game is split into regions such that you can view one market in one system then jump into another region and view an entirely different market with no easy way to compare prices between stuff in those areas short of writing a lot of stuff down between jumps. Combat resolution is pretty much described as, "Who survived?" and compares nothing to tactical games where one has to also survey what components survived the combat, too, as not all damage can be "magiced away".
There are some things that can be done a lot better to make the game more interesting.
Im very happy for you that you are enjoying eve i know there are plenty of people here who dont like eve for one reason or another or have never played it but like to troll it however just ignor them and be ahppy that you ahve a game you really like like i do.
Oh just so you know ive been an eve fanboi since 2003 so i have to admit im pretty hooked and maybee a little biased. Saying that tho RF online and guildwars was a little fun tho.
