This happens to me about once a year or so.

Out of curiosity what was it about eve that you felt wasant you?

    Just curious.

Alright, I'm playing eve right now.

I don't really get any GREAT fun out of it.

But its kinda the only game which don't bore me to death right now..

Perhaps this shows that you are not a hardcore gamer any longer.  There are tons of other hobbies out there.  A few years ago I had a similar issue where I really was starting to play less.  I still play EQ2 just about daily but thats all.  I turn on a fps game once in a while but my hardcore days are over.  I found two other hobbies.  I exercise more and now collect and restore pinball machines.  I enjoy them both and now am a casual video gamer.  Not to mention 40 pounds lighter.

Actually I still enjoy playing games on the 360 and I imagine I will enjoy them for a while. I like sports games a lot so the advancements in graphics and realism are good for me.

If you play Civilisations games, you know that one golden age leads to another.

You wish to always be in a Golden Age, but you must learn to be happy with each individual Golden Age.

I never lost my faith, maybe the "next gen" of MMOs will suck bad, maybe some will be good enought, maybe one will be worthy of starting a new Golden Age...but even if none succeed, more games will come later on the path.

Even if you join a team, the influence you can have is usually far less than what you want it to be.  Be content with what you have, try to improve everything, but accept that not everything can be changed.  No matter how hard I would try, I don't think I could make Brad to listen, and even if I could, there would still be the whole Sigil team.  Do what you can, and just be happy with what you can do.

BioWare is coming soon enought!  That would be wonderful! image

Theres a lot of the POST SWG crash blues, and im not addicted to WoW any more blues.
Halo2 hype faded out and now the big gunner is "Gears of War" which i own and love.

so that game kinna gave me the buzz that ive been looking for.  Other then that, I'm hoping games like

    1. Halo 3
    2. Warhammer Online
    3. Age of Conan
    4. Assassins Creed
    5. Mass Effect
    6. Vanguard

put some kind of life into me. and i assume they will.

  • I'll admit the previous golden age ended at the time of the N64 for consoles and the MMORPG golden age ...well that ended with RO for me... WoW just aggrivated me beyond words...(Put it this way... I was lvl 52 for over a year... I only enjoyed partying which limited my play... to almost nothing...)
though since we've suffered through one horrible age a golden age is due to return, games like vanguard and cronicles of spell born have given me hope as has RO2 combining mutiple forms of character development into one coherent game... for consoles The Wii is my hope even if it's just to bring back the previous golden age There is hope my friend... ihave faith and hope for the love of Ralph H. Baer that it isn't misplaced faith.

Let me just put something out there for everyone to think about.

The video game industry, particularly the MMORPG industry is going to crash. The market is being flooded with the same old garbage over and over again (thanks heavily in part to the success of games like World of Warcraft), and once people start realizing that they will stop playing. It's already evident by some of the smaller developers. The only way they can get customers to pay is by offering free gameplay in exchange for cash shops - this is not a stable business philosphy and it's not going to keep these companies afloat. It won't be that obvious at first, but if developers don't change their way of thinking I predict we'll have some rough times ahead.

On a positive note, the video game crash of the 80s did bring new life to the industry so hopefully we can expect the same with online gaming. We need new ideas and more risks, not the same game with a fresh coat of paint.

Note: I am not saying World of Warcraft is a bad game.

    I still love video games...

  • d0gz1llad0gz1lla Member UncommonPosts: 77

Hum golden age, for me the golden ages were console ages, nintendo times. As i heared a quote or something.

Before we played the game to be totaly skilled, to know every single corner of the game, now we play it to turn it around and delite it. Simple as that as soon as you play of the game, you erase it, you dont know what to do whit it anymore. Before you just poped in the disket in konsole and whos better and owning everything around you was joy... i miss those days, i still have NES at home, sometimes i put it on tv while my cousin plays something else on computer

alot of fun and alot of memories whit that console..

but what lies in front of us, noone knows maybe in 2 years there will come a game that will rock your world.

I'm currently playing around with NWN2. Nothing else even interests me or my gaming wife.

My son will be born in February so I will be tending to him for quite some time. I have a new hobby... welding! Once I finish renovating my house, I will be building a welding shop in my garage. I'm thinking that once my son is old enough to play I will start seeing whats out there.

I think that a lot of older gamers need to find another hobby for a decade or so.

has anyone ever considered asking around or looking on other mmorpg sites for the top 100 games? the most popular one's are quite obviously the one's that lots of people like.  Or i suggest you splash out on a game like WoW, Guild Wars, RuneScape etc. Maybe you could even start on a game, and find out what there is to do once you get good at the game. Maybe you might like the idea of being able to kill really high lvl monsters or wotever? Most games just require alot of patience and maybe abit of experience.

    Im in the same boat.

Im only 18, and seems like there arent any games that give me that experience anymore.  Even all the new games that come out are the same old, same old.  Even my PS3 is pretty much the same.  It is depressing.

One of my friends whose also a gamer is older than me, and way more hyped about the games coming out, especiialy in 2007.  I could barely give a shit about most those games.  Crysis, all those new games, look like nothing special.

Maybe i should i go back to my roots and play some EQ1 on a new server and start fresh...I dont know = (

In the end, i believe, for me, its all about community.  A MMO with a good community, and people ive known for years, like my old SWG guild, will keep me hooked.  Unfortunatly, most of them split into WoW with different guilds + drama.

I go through phases.  I game and game and then start to get
bored... like recently.  I take a break and get involved with
something else for a bit.  The past several months I've been
immersed in reading the books I've been stockpiling for the last year
or so.  I couldn't get enough of reading!  After a bit, I get
the gaming bug again and it's much more enjoyable.  I admit, never
as good as it was years ago, but still enjoyable.

I'm only 17 and have the same problem.  I've been playing MMO's since '98 (i was pretty young).  I think i've played every mmorpg there is to play. I've experienced it all.  Now it's all the same.  Every FPS is the same. Every MMO is the same.

I wish i could have kept my same guilds from 6 years ago and everything.  Forget new graphics and games, i just want my old games and friends. Like another poster said, WoW totally ruined everything.  The games i played lost tons of subs and guilds fell apart.

A huge part of the WoW community consists of first-time players. I think that's why they are so enamored with an average/above-average game. Its not like it does anything new.

Pick a game you can still stomach and try to bring in friends/family who havnt played, even the most dull and overplayed game can be fun again with RL buddies.

Had the same argument on boring games with a friend at work the other day. There are two things you can do about it, either fight it or go with the flow. If you find how to fight it let me know imageimage
Would that be trying the new technologies? Like Wii?

You fight it by voting with your wallet.  You reward the developers of games like Planescape: Torment and you punish developers like Sony for trainwrecks such as Star Wars Galaxies by cancelling immediately.  Please note the intentional irony of my choices.

Im like u guys, i have 18 years old, and i think every MMO's, FPS's, and all kind of games is boring to me, i hope this "thing"::::21:: go away, coz i wanna feel ::::31:: the same thing years before when i played all games, that emotion, i think that will never back ::::16::

Maybe the reason you guys are bored is because as you get older your tastes change, and what you need for challenge has changed.

It could be because the games they are making now are not as good but I don't know, The friends of mine who play games (myself included) don't play a lot of games. We know what we like, play as long as we have fun and then just move on with our lives. Then again, we have other things going on with our lives.

We don't really require a game to play all thetime. It is more of a diversion, a past time. Not a way of life. I still put in quite a bit of time in Lineage 2 each week and play several hours of Oblivion each week. But if I start "not wanting to play" I do something else.

Because of this I don't get bored. I actually don't understand people who get bored. When I was young and told my mother I was bored she would give me a choice, do chores or play outside. Needless to say, I played outside. Maybe it's time for gamers to discover other past times in order to keep video games fresh.

    Time to play outside.image

Totally in the same boat as the OP. It makes me wonder.. maybe I'm just 'growing up'? At 23, it's quite possible that I don't find games entertaining anymore because I'm maturing.. Some games are really cool, but I just don't seem to have the enthusiasm  for them anymore.

Except for the Wii of course, can't wait for that. :D

And I think that is exactly it. In looking back at some of the old games I've played, I loved them. But booting them up I really wasn't interested in playing them anymore.

As we get older our tastes grow and become more refined. I used to love Jerry Lewis Movies when I was a kid. However, now I can't stand them.

I'm sure video games undergo the same transition as our tastes change.

    To the OP:

Try a game from a totally different genre. Who knows, maybe your taste is just changing.  I had enjoyed playing UO and SWG for several years before their major updates. After that, I had followed GW develop during its alpha stages and picked up copies for it as well but at the same time  I picked up a copy of MS Flight Simulator 2004 (it looked really fun judging from the screenshots and features it listed and I was no aviation fanatic at that time so it was a completely random act), a year of addiction of flight simulator game, (GW itch and mmorpg in general had died down somewhat) and I wanted to learn to fly in real life. I got started on that and now I  have my private pilot license and now working to get additional ratings as well as a commercial license! FS Flight Simulator X is the 10th version of the franchise. 25 years of franchise and still is very well alive and pushes the limits of current hardwares. I didnt think I would see my career spark from just playing this pc game. So yea, try something totally new or unfamiliar to you, although people have different tastes, maybe you'll like something about ms flight simulator x.

I wish they would create a flight simulator MMORPG. image  http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulatorx/screenshots.html#

Time mends all wounds.  For those of you waiting to "find that spark again", I say only this:

The future of gaming is far from ruined.  There are still developers out there trying to bring back the better days of video games; people who might even have similar feelings to your's.  But as we all know, waiting for the next greatest thing to play is a game of patience... sometimes frustratingly long patience.  But therein lines the rub:

The longer you wait, the better experience you'll have in the end.  One day you'll wake up and "that" game will be there.

And you'll wonder why you ever worried in the first place.
