currently testing Voyage Century Online and loving it, this is the first pirate type mmorpg ive played i did do bata testing for Carpe Diem but got very bored after 10 mins it was the worse bata game i have ever tested.
btw had a look again at Carpe Diem again now its p2p and is still the same as the bata!!! nice work guys
I think guild wars... the beta weekends before it launched i got into a guild and we did guild fights all day long. Tons of fun and all the guild members were extremely dedicated... everyoen probably played like 12 hours a day or more.
The beta was actualyl funner then when the game came out IMO... because once the game came out guild fights were rare as everyone wanted to keep their ranks and refused to fight.
I am currently in 3 betas. One has totally sucked and I surrendered my beta account back to the developers but, I am still under NDA... bastards! Another beta I am currently in... well... though the game isnt one that I will be playing well into release I must give credit to the work the dev team is doing, their communication with testers has been good and to some extent it seems that they actually care what the testers have to say.
The third, well is simply awesome. They delayed the game's release because of suggestions from the testers. They are often times in game themselves (the devs) and have played with and against most of them at one point or another. When it hits release I think it will make a big splash.

Planet side closed beta. The battles were large and very epic.Best moment was a suicide run smooshing 5-8 people standing around with a galaxy. After that was proballey the time my team was defending a base. The oppposing team captured the local tower and when we whent to take it back like 40 different people started spawning out of the tower. Somehow i was able to take out all 3 reclamtion things at the bottom with my nc max so anyone the spawned only had that lame rifle to work with. After that it was pure carnarage.
I gotta go with guild wars here. The end of the CB and the end on the OB weekends were always unique. Devs would have endless waves of mobs overrun the city until everyone died, Worldwide firestorms, etc. I just remember the thrill of trying to survive, while they threw more and more mayhem at us....ah good times-good times.
omg ummmmm....can't remember when it was.....6 years ago??!!!! beta testing Ragnarok Online on my 56k. omg i can't believe it, i downloaded the game with 56k, took me 5 nights, hahahahhaa the game hooked me forever since. although now i'm bored of it. but yea baby!!! that game was awsome. played it everyday 24/7 haha best game ever
I've got to totaly agree with you on this one. RO was certainly my first Beta MMORPG that i played (and boy did i ever play it) but was also the first real MMORPG that i got into. I have since played everything from WOW to Asian MMORPG's and plenty in between, but Ragnarok Online was and will forever be one of my best Beta Experiences ever, *sniff* i still remember when i found a rare card for my mage, who was pumping up her stats to be nothing but magic attack power, and did i certainly pack a punch.
The only thing missing from that game back then was PVP, but i'm not sure if they've since instigated a PVP system.
Lineage 2 probably had to be my best one. I really did like the community and the enviroment. at the time I started playing it I knew that I would end up buying the game and playing it all the time. truthfully im still addicted to the game but soon i will quit as Age of Conan is coming out.
I'd have to say Anarchy Online, not because of the game, it was a mess in beta (still was at release), but the community was one of the greatest i've ever seen in a game, and it still is. I was really hyped about the game before beta-testing it, I mean, FINALLY a sci-fi MMORPG - Never really got into EVE, too much... Flying around . Now i'm just seeing all the fantasy-genre clones pass by waiting for another sci-fi mmo.. God, I hope Tabula Rasa isn't as big a let down as i'm afraid it will be.
World of Warcraft beta was my best experience even with all the server problems in the open phase. It was really revolutionary how polished and fun it was.
One of the best beta's that I have played (and I started beta testing MMORP's in the 80's) was the Saga of Ryzom. This was a great beta because they had many unique and innovative features, and were not afraid to experiment based on player feedback. Sadly, most of the innovation was removed just prior to release, and the game is only a shadow of what it had been.
Anyone remember last days of Asherons Call 1 beta?
The whole meteor in the sky, and last day meteor fragments crashing down and destroying towns.. Hated when Yanshi, all time favortie noobtown was gone.

legend of ares, just because i was one of the top players before they whiped everybody
:P
(i was playing wow or something else, so i couldnt re-do what i did on beta..)
Was it the asian-version? (Since english website was never updated before they dumped it).
----
Wish had an English beta, or at most of the people on the server were speaking English.
----
P.S. I played a Wish wannabe (used the same engine), but it's barebones graphics and severe lack of content made me bail when it went pay to play.
The only thing missing from that game back then was PVP, but i'm not sure if they've since instigated a PVP system.
Cheers,
