* long travel times - Not true, unless you choose to just go somewhere far away.
LOL ok so ... I wont have to travel far unless I want to go somewhere.. ya got me.
OMG!!! Having to TRAVEL to GO somewhere??? That's CRAZY!!!! Oh, and VG Noob.... there are ways to skip long travels, such as caravans and spells, but you would care about things like that...
* forced grouping - Not true. One Beta Tester Journel was done by a guy who said he soloed almost everything to earn his levels.
People could solo in EQ1 as well, it simply took x2-x4 times longer and offered far less rewards.
It's a MMO... seriously...
* Limited endgame availibility to everyone - Wow, you counldn't be further off. There already so much endgame content in the game you probably will never come close to doing 1/3 of it.
See *bottlenecking* People only care about the "Best" items which is where limited availibility comes into play with regards to the "vision".
What? How in the HECK did you get that out of what I said? Things being hard is bottlenecking?
* long xp grind - If you mean a while to level, GOOD.
I said GRIND.. Goto point A kill mobs for 8 hours, repeat for 180 days.
It a mix of XP. It's Quest XP, plus XP for killing things, and bonus XP for kill rare things. If all you wanted to do is explore and kill things, you'ld get similar XP then those who want to quest, plus a few drop items and rare ingredients for crafting.
* bottlenecking progress - Not sure what this means.
IF you dont know what bottlenecking is you obviously have not played Early EQ1 (Brads game). As such your commenting here is questionable.
Nope, I HATED EQ, yet like VSoH.... guess it's not like VSoH...
* twinking - Nope. Not in Vanguard.
Your sir are out of your element, so I will direct you to this post made by brad.
Aradune Mithara: There will be twinks.First, there is good twinking (when you twink yourself, which encourages replayability) and then there is bad twinking, when you just hand items to random people that are higher level than they are, giving them an advantage in-game and essentially robbing them of the sense of satisfaction of earning the item themselves. The latter also accelerates MUDflation.
For good twinking, we have the Veteran System, where, say, you have a level 30 character and you make a new second character and equip him with some items from your level 30 character. Because we know you have a level 30 character, we will reward you for creating an alt and experiencing other aspects of Vanguard (different areas, different classes, different races, etc.). How will we reward you? In Vanguard, items are scaled such that if a lower level character gets a high level item, while it is slightly better than an item around his level, its not as powerful as if it were wielded by a character closer to the level of the item. With the Veteran system, the item scaling isnt as severe. While your twinked alt wont be godlike, he will be a bit more powerful, noticeably so, and thus you are rewarded and encouraged to play through the game with multiple characters and also play the game longer.
I hear this system has been DRAMATICALLY changed.
* Crafting grind -LOL... er uh... no.
LOL ... er uh I dunno what to say so ill say "uh er um daaah"
Crafting not a grind... was what I was saying.
* Best items Raiding - This is just Trolling. Not even close to true.
/yawn Here is another reply from Brad
Q Will the best loot come only from raids?
Aradune Mithara: Many of them will, but many will also be available to groups. Often the very best items will require a long time commitment
Long Time Commitments does not mean RAIDING... According to the Dev's & Brad, 30% will be available solo, 30% grouping 20% small grouping and 20% Raiding. There are other posts here with info, so you can look it up...
* harsh death penalty - WOOT!!! But seriously, it's really not harsh...
I personaly might agree with you here, but the majority wont. Either way its nothing to "WooT" about.
OH YES THERE IS!!!! Seriously, it's not harsh. Read up on it.
* limited soloing - Read above, lol....
What would i read...? Most of your comments have been off base and irrelevant, clearly showing a lack of education on Verant and Sigil.
ROFL... Dude, I'm far from uneducated... I pointed out holes in this above and you insult me... seriously, go read the Vanguard Resources post above...
* harsh grindish death penalty - No even close. Gotta love commenting on something that's not even true.
Facts? O you have none so i guess ill take your word on it..
Errr.... A "fact" is claiming there's a "harsh grindish death penalty" with no proof is not a FACT... Tell you what, go read the Sigil FAQ and quote it here when you find proof of this...
* multi boxers prosper - ??? If you mean those that use 2 Comps to Camp, then laugh at them.... they're dead...
Obviously you have had extensive experiance with 5-6 boxers. I mean these guys are all complete "noobs" and would never gain an unfair advantage with their hardware and use of 3rd party programs.
Well, you're assuming something there isn't even evidence of. There IS evidence that Sigil is taking MANY steps to stop all exploiters & cheaters.
* long camps, 72 hour ragefire anyone? - If you mean Spawn Camping, Vanguard has several systems to stop it.
Not talking about Mx13 and his noobie group camping the same gnolls for 12 hours. Im citing rare spawns for epics etc, taking upwards for 24-75 hours to (re)spawn.
Now you're being an Ass... Seriously, go read up on the game, then come back and insult people...
* casuals, 2nd rate players - LOL... wow, now your just making stuff up.
Really? Im glad you cleared that up. Lets take a look on Brads opinion on it.
Aradune Mithara: The most powerful items will likely require contiguous time commitments involving a lot of people.
Show a link to this quote, because this is the opposite of what Brad has posted in these forums... go check... I'll wait...
* soloers, worst loot in the game - LOL... Again, making up things that aren't even close.
Ill let Brad take this one for me.
Aradune Mithara: Some of the best items will come from conventional raiding (large groups of people participating in long contiguous adventures). Some will come from long adventures consisting of less people and more importantly, while a lot of time will have to be invested, the content will be such that all of that time doesn't have to be contiguous.
You're leaving out the part that says 30% of items will come from Solo Quests. Go read, seriously...
* kill stealing - There is no kill stealing in Vanguard, they have a system to stop it.
NOT even a grey area where a person camping rare_gnoll for 6 hours cant have it instantly taken on its spawn by a passing threw mage? Then pass it off as legit since he had first strike?
So happy you could help clear up this up with your Insightfull examples.
Go read.... it's all there... it's not my job to point you to information that's already easily available...
* training - OH NOES!!! IT'S NOT INSTANT!!! Sorry, but I like having to do quests for a MAster to unlock an ability... it's FUN...
Wow this one went righttt over your head. In any case maybe someone else can take this one from jr Einstein.
How exactly? Using trainers? I'm refering to the fact that some of those trainers are quest givers, and not all abilities can be learned, Einstein... Reading... try it....
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
I must admit I forgot what 'training' was. That is an old EQ1 thing whereas someone coul;d pick a fight with some mobs and drag them to you.
This exsists to a point. Mobs don't follow you for very long.
In WoW this could be done too. It was a popular tactic to pick a fight with a boss and 'train' them to a lowbie town. Was great fun watching those old movies whereas this elite end game boss would destroy every lowbie in sight. In WoW this wasnt a big deal cause no harsh death penalty but in any game that has DEBT Training becomes a problem. EQ2 fixed that by locking encounters I believe. I think they also fixed kill stealing too. I canceled EQ2 after a few months only made it to 20 on two toons so my knowledge on EQ2 isn't the best
This poster points some other things tho that concerns me greatly. So, back to the original topic, I think its those issues listed above that will detract the faithful WoW crowd. However I dont know the future so I can only wait and see how Sigil handles this. I wish them the best though cause I'd like to see some new MMOs hit the market
Thanks for the info, I hated EQ so never played.
Read up on the game, the resources thread above has some starting points. It seems they were prepared for these concerns, because they're all talked about. Enjoy
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
Yeah I've read the FAQ, watched a lot of movies, and read a lot of the beta reports. I'm no VG expert by far but yeah the materials I've seen so far havent alleviated my concerns. I was aware though that they promise raiding wont be the only way to get the end game gear. What I am looking for is an optional for casual gamers to earn equivalent loot via pvp (like WoW has supposedly just added in the latest patch).
graphic texture and animations in vangards are so outdated that it hurts to wach it , no idea how you think that this graphick could compare to wow no idea ,, even if i dont paly wow nither is my cup of tea , i have to confest that wow graphic is one of the most polished out there..
well i will still have a go with Vangard ,, apparently gameplay will rock ............. hopefully i d get usud to poor graphic

Not sure which videos you are speaking of but I have seen Vangaurds graphics and they kick WoW's to the curb. EQ2's graphics are far superior to WoW's in every way except personal taste. Get a good computer and you will see. Graphics in Vanguard are very pleasing, wait till release or NDA lift to see.
Originally posted by anarchyart Imagine WoW with more realistic graphics, Gryphons you can fly anywhere you want, Ships you can craft and Pilot yourself, Player Housing and NO INSTANCES! This is Vanguard! www.joinvanguard.com
I can't wait til Vanguard comes out! I just hope I make beta so I can try before I buy
Personally, I feel Vanguard went with the realism approach which is very difficult, and they did not pull it off to today's standards. No the graphics aren't bad, but you really feel like you've gone back in time gamewise with Vanguard. Id talk about the gameplay, but that might be saying to much...
Originally posted by suske it might be fun, untill soe takes a dump on the fanbase.

SoE servers are rock solid compared to other mmorpg including WoW.I have played EQ 1,EQ2 and planetside and have the say this 3 games had the most stable servers in the game.
Originally posted by Mdkt0 Like a typical SOE game, its probably gonna strt really good then take a spiral downhill after first expansion
Not being developed by SOE though. This game is Brad McQuaids dream game, he won't let it get ruined by anyone but himself. I'm sure it won't be all games to all people like WoW, but it will have a quest based system and a lot of fun yet rewarding things to do.
For everyone saying it is a SOE game you can stop. They are merely co-publishers. They are only responsible for the servers, billing, burning, and printing. Nothing more. They have ZERO control on the content of the gaem. Sigil is made up of many employees that left SOE to make the game they want to make. Without a money man over there shoulder. They even left microsoft partnership because microsoft pushed them into beta way to soon and lost them a lot of PR funds.
As for that big list going back and forth. To the one with the negative feedback about Vanguard. Maybe you should read about it first. You have absolutley no idea what you are talking about on half of those issues. Camping for one. I'm not going to bother explaining. You should jus put as much effort in your research as you do your post. As for the quotes you dredged up. Those must be very old. In the past weeks I have read just about every recent article, interview, etc. None supported your quotes really.
Like the raiding for the best gear isn't true. The best gear will be crafted from rare loots and drops also. Like SWG. Even then your looted gear can be enhanced by a crafter of that type item. The game is centered around grouping and loot. This is no secret. It is still solo-able but, if you wanna get that uber awesome helm or need to get that rare monster to drop the pearl you will need a group.
There is also much more to do than fight also. That's all in there FAQ though.
WoW lacks depth true but your missing one thing there are 2 completly diffirent types of combat systems...twitch-fighting vs. semi turn based
i've seen the combat videos and im not impressed really but thats just my 2 cents and my real problem is that graphics ISNT everything! i love good graphics as much as the next person but its about the gameplay look at the old school games

im not bashing VsoH but im just saying that im tired of people saying that a certain MMORPG is BETTER then another because of this or that...its all personal ikes and dis-likes
and about the fear of sony dropping a load on the fanbase DONT WORRY!! sony is just a server provider for this one and they have NO SAY in what happans other then how many servers VsoH is willing to pay for
i play WOW,CoH,CoV,VsoH closed beta,9 Dragons closed beta
and all i hear from people is that i hate games with high graphics because i cant play them on high so ill let you in on a little something:
Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 OC'ed to 3.8ghz 4 gb DDR2 800 Corsair xms2 Dual 8800GTX running in SLI
Why are people saying things like "typical soe game"? Sigil is in control of the game design and development. SOE handles the server environment and billing/support. This is actually a pretty good combination if you ask me, because SOE knows how to run servers well. As for Sigil, they'll have to prove themselves worthy but things seem to be shaping up well getting closer to beta 5 & release.
Nobody's saying Vanguard is going to blow all other games away. But it should be a pretty fun game, something new, something a tad "more" when compared to some other MMO's out there today. If you don't want to try it, that's fine, just wait until after release to hear the reviews. All this talk while the game is in beta isn't gonna matter after the game launch. I imagine it'll probably take 1-2 months for things to settle in and for them to fix the initial bugs & usual release issues. But after that, if the game proves to be fun and worthwhile, you definately will hear good reviews and who knows, you may even give it a try then.
I understand the hate for SOE. But I don't hate the original EQ1, and I still think Kunark & Velious were 2 of the best MMO expansions ever released in like...ever. And Sigil is headed by the person that was in charge of those 2 expansions, and he openly stated that when Vanguard has expansions, they'll be to the size of kunark/velious. Hooray, no more gimply crappy SOE Dessert of Flames EQ2 expansion releases. As long as SOE doesn't take over Vanguard, I think the game will be fine
So is the end game going to be anything more then more and more LOOT GRINDING? like WOW? If all you do is hunt or raid over and over just for better and better gear then the game will suck as bad as wow. Ill take a game where at max lvl you pvp or rvr with your guild and friends. a real war against your enamy like DAoC ( pre TOA).

Well, the thing is, it's going to take a lot longer to get to max level than WoW. And there will be PVP servers. They haven't disclosed what rulesets they will be using on said servers, but I have a feeling it will be RvR and a FFA server. I would really like full looting but I doubt I will get my wish.
Take this for what it is worth but the two games have very very little in common game play wise. Just reading the games FAQ's will show you that. WoW is very soloable to 60, VG is group oriented, WoW has almost no death penalty, VG has a harsh one. VG has been designed from the beginning to appeal to the hard core make it tough crowd. WoW is simple in comparison. I would have to say that if you love WoW you will hate VG and if you hate WoW you may love VG. Or you may want to find something more middle of the road.

They have more in common than not, Jack. Vanguard is soloable also, although more group oriented. However there is not one instance in WoW you can do solo at the appropriate level, I mean finish completely. Vanguard death penalty has not been set in stone yet, although I would prefer corpse runs. Gives death more meaning but corpse runs may not make it in.
As far as Vanguard being truly hardcore, you need to try the finished version before you can determine that. I loved WoW and I love Vanguard also, so obviously neither of our absolute statements are absolutely correct for everyone.
If you loved WoW but want something deeper, you will LOVE Vanguard.
Originally posted by anarchyart They have more in common than not, Jack. Vanguard is soloable also
I don't think so. That is not how the game has been designed. Soloable only if you want to grind mobs and progress very very slowly. This game is for the hard core, it about 180 out from WoW which was designed as the McDonalds of MMORPGs. Not saying VG is a bad game, just that it is not for lightweights or casual gamers.

Dear Synyster777, If you want to be taken seriously you should try reading entire posts instead of the last page and/or one line. On a side note paragraphs, sentences and point of context are your friends. Thank you, -The Management
Why thank you sir, and if -you- want to be taken seriously try staying on topic instead of being an english teacher. Even better try replying to my post or quoting a small part of my post so next time you give me an english lesson I will know about it.

Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 OC'ed to 3.8ghz
4 gb DDR2 800 Corsair xms2
Dual 8800GTX running in SLI

I miss DAoC
If you like pork, you will LOVE vegemite!
I miss DAoC
It has been designed so that all playstyles can find a home. At release we will both find out just how much a solo player can enjoy it.
Why thank you sir, and if -you- want to be taken seriously try staying on topic instead of being an english teacher. Even better try replying to my post or quoting a small part of my post so next time you give me an english lesson I will know about it.
Thank you,

How much are SOE/sigil paying you?
This might shock you into incoherence, but I'm actually paying them.
