I can not see the logic in seeing of why people are saying this game sucks. It does have it lows. But it is the 4th most payed for mmorpg in the world. Only games that has more payed members is WOW, Lineage 1&2(mmorpgchart.com). Also I can not understand why people say runescape has terrible customer support, if you look at the credits about half of the 100 employees are support staff.

Part of the reason they have so many is that their reporting system sucks. Having to deal with 10 million 12 yr old kids can get pretty tiresome on its own, but with such a craptastic support system in place to make it even worse... I definitely don't envy those people.
I played Runescape for quite a long time, and it has done a lot of things right. However, it's beginning to move in the same direction as WoW, by basing all of its items and character progression on killing monsters. It was much better in the original version where everything was hand-crafted.
Having said that, I quit the game due to the ban placed on my character by mistake. When I appealed to Jagex, they refused to even investigate the matter. I filed three separate petitions, all of which were ignored. They did not use ANY of the four different methods of keeping track of bannable offenses, and refuse to even speak with me. Such abuse is unheard of in all other MMOs, and I won't touch Runescape ever again.
ive played rs for about 2 and a half years and frankly ive wasted my time, do not judge the game on non member, because it is crap, members is okay, but if you are playing it, quit now before you waste more of your life on it, it is not a bad game, but it is dangerously addictive and people can waste alot of years playing it. not all people that play it are greasy nerdy little 10 year olds, some are, but some arent so dont generalise, the people that play it are normal people that get hooked to this game and turn that way. the game is not hard but it is extremely time consuming, alot more than any other game. ive seen normal people become so addicted to this game. i know a good game, real life, so dont play rs and go play football or soemthing before you waste your life like so many people have.

I've been through this game as a noob and made my way to become a respected high level player in my early years on the internet.
I've recently quit on the game due to what I've learned, and here are my comments:
1. I despise their corrupt moderators and machine operated Customer Support.
2. The community is filled with a bunch of unintelligent noobs who don't understand sophistication and logic.
3. The graphics are terrible, I don't care if it's Java, that's their fault. [ If you want to argue with me about graphics and Java, you better know how to code C++ and Javascript ]
4. It's so childish, there are too many restrictions on behavior.
a. Word Censoring
b. Scream Filter
c. Music
d. Jokes
e. Language
5. The stories are lame, that includes quests.
Overall:5/10

It's average.. i still play it now and im not bad on it, but i do find it boring sometimes, which is why I started playing Guild Wars abit more lately. Yes the graphics are abit..well..balls..() and they need MAJOR improvements, but it is playable.
THe amount of quests, minigames, features is a bit higher now (10k + items, 22 skills, player houses, 14 minigames etc...)

*Cough* wonk, WoW has uhhhhhh almost 3k quests? Battlegrounds, raids, instances, actual PvP, more than like 5 classses, none of that mage>warrior, warrior>ranged crap, healing class.
1: The graphics are awful, and if you believe the bs that Java is limited to what Jagex can do then I suggest that you take a look at Wurm Online, it's Java, and the graphics are a thousand times(exaggerated) better than Runescape.

I reported a huge amount of pass scammers and item scammers in my two years of playing, and not one of my reports got any feedback from Jagex. And I observed the same people doing the same things on several occasions afterwards.

You can't got anywhere without someone yelling "noob lol wtf i pwn j00" alright, maybe that was an exaggeration, but the noob calling in this game is extreme and the amount of immature people is unbelievable.
4: Pest control ruined the combat skills, now people can max out in about 1/3 of the time it used to take before, some have been able to achieve up to 1 million xp per day, which is way to much if you intend to have some difficulty in the game. Some level 120 guy once asked for directions to Camelot, me being only a level 98 asked him how come he didn't know that, and he answered, because he played pest control all day and didn't have time to go anywhere else, and what I found more irritating is that he had only been playing for four months(according to himself)
Besides that, you can now grind with melee and get both money and xp in all the combat skills. What annoys me however is that you can gain xp in range/magic by using melee, which pretty much ruined the effort that rangers/mages before pest control, put into their levels.

By the way, a pentagram has no relations with satanism, it's an old symbol that represents the five elements: Idea, Air, Earth, Wind and Fire.
That's my opinion on the game. I dislike it to the bone and would never, ever, go back.

after you start to get into it.. say level 15-50 you need to buy stuff based on increments of 1k(1000 gold).. now most people are to lazy to earn even such a low amount of money so they think. something like"ill just beg for it" or" i can scam 1k"

as you start to hit the 60s and up runescape loses the little amount of fun in it... the PVP in the game(castle wars, duel arena, fightpit) is horrible, revolves around being high level. the problem is, your to tired of sitting for an hour to gain a level to go do it some more.

i hit level 81.. then sold my account for $115
the reason i quit was this, im tired of pve(this game has actually affected me so much i barely pve in any other mmorpgs) and it takes to much time.....the armor i was gonna get(veracs full armor, i had the flail) costed 6 milllion gold.... not hard at level 81 right.. WRONG... my main cash earning skill was woodcutting... which was 77... since it took me 30 minutes to get a full inventory of 28 logs... i figured it would take me a few months to get 6 million. soo i considered fletching! turning those logs to bows gets me 5k each instead of the normal 1k for just the log...
thats when i realized theres no point.... i take another few months to get it to the right level, to work for another month, to buy my armor and train for a few more months, repairs need money(barrows armor needs repairs) so i need to spend time on that
so.. its to time consuming for to little.. so i agree

I know you may all be surprised to hear this, but personally I love runescape. I am a 16 runescape addict, and I still renew my membership every month. I could probably have gotten WoW for the same price as I pay for runescape, but the truth is that I'd actually prefer to play runescape. I am generally on runescape for at least 2 hours a day, and I dont even have friends on there who I talk to. To all you people out there who hate runescape so much let me just say that if 1.5 million people pay to play a game online it musnt be as bad as you say
