I dont know about you guys, i havent played CoH in a good year, but...it looks to me that its kinda losing it? and with the Marvel MMO being made, CoH could die out real soon, what you guys think?
Well there are a few issues here. One would be that as the Marvel one is still very much in Pre Production you are looking at 2 to 3 years from now to start. As far as COH it is doing very well and I still love it all. Go a halloween event comming up in a week and a half and the Vet rewards in November (give or take).
Will it die out ... I really do doubt it very much it is not like WOW, Lineage, Dungeons and Dragons, Dark age of Camelot, or any other of the cookie cutter, fairy type, swords and scorcery out there. It is after all the only superhero based mmorpg out there.
i agree totally i still love the game and if im not mistaken the Marvel game if an Xbox based is it not? If so then i can tell u this im not going to run out and buy an Xobx 360 for $400 just to play it since i already have a comp and COX.

yeah I believe Xbox 360 and Vista is what I read, so you be looking having to have an Xbox or Buying a new OS for a few hundred bucks... yeah right.
im ganna be so angry if people start requiring vista. XP is the first OS that WORKS sense 98. i dont want to change . on top of XP working, its actually GOOD lol
I don't see why not.. there are alot of games now that require XP to play, one is AOE3 I think. and I know there are more. but it will be a year or 2 out probably before it's required.
Dont worry...I dont think this game will be going anywhere anytime soon. Marvel and DC's games are a long ways off. This game is still in the top 10 subscription wise and still wins awards. For gods sake, people still play UO! This game will do fine.
I can see myself having a subscription for both games but, MarvelOnline is a few years away and it propably will have graphics and gamestyle that differs alot from CoX. It comes down to "feeling", how does the game feel.
"Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures."
this is correct Marvel universe on line will be only for the Xbox 360 and for windowns vista, you wont be able to play marvel universe online unless you have vista the reason being is microsofts directx 10 will only run on vista which marvel universe only requires. So if you have your heart on playing the hero/villian comptition get ready to pony up a good chunk of cash cause your going be buying a new OS and if you have an older system new hardwear as well. And if anyone has ever tried going the cheap route and buy an OS windows update you know how frustationing that is your better off just buying the full blown version wihich Microsoft will charge at least 199.00 for.
We don't know beans about Marvel Online yet. If it's a faster paced CoX set in the marvel universe, I'll definitley be onboard. Used to love the old MArvel PnP RPG back in the day. But I can see a lot of ways form them to screw it up.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Actually, the upgrade cd is the same as the "full purchase". Blow away the machine, toss in your upgrade cd and you're on the way to a new version -- it does pause long enough for you to prove you owned an eligible previous version of windows though.
Anyway, if Marvel is 2-3 years away, I think a good chunk of the population will be into Vista by then although I agree with the other poster that XP finally is reliable.

CoX is dying but its a really slow death. They are currently at around 150 - 170k subscribers according to the reports from NCSoft. This number sounds really great til you compare it to WoW (only 1-2.5% of its pop). So, they should be making a handsome profit but in order to realize their full potential they must move forward. Marvel is a great, well known franchise and has the potential to net them a lot of money.
So is CoX dying? Yes, I think it is. But it's going to be a long, slow death as far as I can tell. However, if a next gen MMO releases this can all change. At this point all we can do is speculate til we see how good Fury, warhammer, etc will be
edit- CoX has excellent role playing and character creation. Most importantly its the only superhero MMO out there. So the only thing that can really kill it is that Marvel MMO
Vajuras, that's not really a fair comparison. If you compared every MMO to WoW, they'd all be slowly dying. So it's more like WoW's success is the exception, not the rule.
Anyway, I don't really think the Marvel MMO will kill it. Why? Cryptic's developing it, too. So the profits they get from Marvel MMO can be used towards that and CoX.

A faster game than CoX?
Don't you think you are asking much? CoX is extremely fast, yet it somehow manage to remain a RPG despite all this speed. Many slower games lost this RPG tag and where rightly named ACTION games, not RPG anymore. I dunno, you really ask for a LOT, considering that no other MMO is even close to be that fast, not even action-MMOs.

i'm willing to bet that a huge percentage of COx's population are US-based with some euro-based. no $2/month shared accounts with cox.

Actually I was going by CoX quarterly reports. When it first released it was almost 200k. Now its down to 171k. It just seems to be declining rather than growing. In addition to that the Devs seem slow to release new content. So yeah, maybe it'll slowly decline / slowly rise but it doesnt appear it'll expand significantly. So, I was saying if they want to really compete with WoW and the next gen MMOs coming up they'll need to come out with something strong like the Marvel MMO cause the statistics indicate CoX isn't growing.

or
they can do like wow did, and when they see they're losing tons of US subs (which i'm not saying is happening to cox yet), they can release in china and pick up tons of extra subs (albeit for a lot less $$ than US/euro subs) and balloon their numbers!

Except that WoW has perpetually gained U.S. subs since it released. Unlike COH which has dramatically lost then gained then started to lose again.
New content for COH, is going to slow down. There are no new expansions planned for the next 18 months, and Statesman and presumably many of the other develpers have stopped working on it and moved over to Marvel.
Expect the new content rate to drop.
.
I'm not sure COH will sell in China, it didn't take off in Korea. The superhero theme is a U.S. cultural one. Chinese people weren't brought up on U.S. comic books. But it's a good game so you never know.

The combats in COH are fast paced and a lot of fun. If that's what you though I meant i can understand your confusion.
However, I was talking about the pace of chracter advancement. Assuming you aren't power levelled, the pace at which you advance has always seemed a bit slow to me after the early teens. I know, for example, that I can hit level 20 in less time "played" in EQ II, DAoC, AO, and even EQ these days (just off the top of my head). Maybe to you those are "action RPGs" but I think most players consider them reasonably methodical MMORPGs. I'm not saying I want something like Guild Wars where you hit the cap in about a week, but I would like to play something that seems like less of a grind than CoH (to me). Of course one man's jackrabbit is another man's snail, so make what you will of these comments
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
CoX allows your creativity flow out of the box by having a high customization and freedom in teams where items isnt something to worry about. The unique part is you can have your own heroes / villains and be porud of it.
We are not sure how would marvel online turns out as its being announced recently. So why worry? love what you have now and let the future predicts itself.
All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.
its still hazy for Marvel Online and i wouldnt want to play anything i read. CoX redefine the super-hero genre and i would say Cryptic will still preserve the game. As quoted somewhere " Without CoX, there wont be Cryptic Studios "
IMHO, i would pay for CoX and Marvel Online if it have the flexible game system and the no-items rule.
All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.
This is a generalization about games but here it is. Once the devs said they were not going to expand characters beyond 60th level, that pretty much gives you a fundamental limit on the game life for many players.
In reply to the OPer only, I don't think CoX is loosing anything. I think it's only getting better with each issue. Customers are listened to and asked what they want. The only way I would go to a Marvel MMORPG is if it was better. I'm not a fanboy of anything or at least try not to be, I like to judge something on it's merits and failings. And in it's current state the only failing I see CoX having is shallowness. If a Marvel MMORPG was released that had everything CoX has covered and was deeper then I'd switch. I can't help but get a feeling a Marvel MMORPG is going to be much of ''You just reached level 43! Now you wipe the Hulk's nose and bring Thor his hammer and cup of tea''.
