I highly doubt that the change will be that drastic, especcially since the PC and the console versions are going to be very different, with the console game being released a year or so after the PC.

Do us a favour, and dont post again. This thread was just that stupid.

Technology is advancing, games are multiplatforming, MMOS are being introduced to console, only person who doesnt seem to be evoloving is you. Change isnt that scary, and what failed before doesnt mean it will fail again, trial and error kid, trial and error.

And its usually the console version of a game thats dumbed down, not the pc verson.

    QFT...

And the combat system works great on a gamepad, even when playing using the the PC and the PC version, so little will be changed there...

The only problem I have is the with people that will be playing on the Xrots, not the game itself

Instead of remaking on the original poster (that would just be too easy) I would like to state how much I am looking forward to this game. The graphics, setting, and game play will make this one of the best MMOs to come out in years. This type of Mature Sword and Sorcery Fantasy is exactly what I've been looking for since my first days of playing MMORPGs. I'm also glad to see that (for the most part) the community is very intelligent and mature. I simply can not wait to get to meet and make friends with some of these great people in the game.

I agree that it's stupid to think that because it will be developped on 360 too, this game will suck... Why that ?? The pc development is totally different from the xbox one, and we won't play on same servers...

    It's really 2 differents games ...

    Gamepads, yuck! image

I share the fear of the op. Lots of games released for both platforms have been real lousy on the PC. Lets just hope Funcom can make out something good.

In my opinion it is good that the developer considered to bring this game on 360, because
a xbox is cheaper than a whole new computer and you can play other games with a nice
graphic, too. Another advantage is the Game Pad. I think that it will be more user-friendly.

Releasing this game for the 360 is a hugely positive thing. Not only does it expand it to another less expensive platform that is widely popular, it brings in a whole new audience of people who otherwise may not have even played the game. A new AAA title MMO releasing for PC and console (they mentioned after PC launch) is a huge step for MMO's and their popularity. As for the gamepad, I will argue a keyboard and mouse at this point in time will always be better and more functional to use than a gamepad. Age of Conan is truely one of the only new games for 2007 that is introducing truely innovative material and content, not just reworked items that have been done before.

Since the game was gamepad friendly at the start. I really don't see the big deal.

ya this game seems like it will work great on a console, i mean with the directional attacks and whatnot, that would work great with a joypad, just as long as they dont do anything like FFXI, the controls in that game pissed me off greatly

mind you this game was first concieved and developed for PC so if anything the xbox version will be "dumbed down"

which it of course wont be due to the XENA development suite being utilized

Where you are getting this information? I haven't seen any developer interviews, quotes or other official information that is saying anything like this.

PC players bad experience from multiplatform games is based to games like Deus Ex 2. Deus Ex 1 was - and still is one of the greatest PC games ever. Deus Ex 2 was total let down. As a consequence of XBOX console-oriented development, the game's levels were significantly smaller than those seen in the original Deus Ex. Console-oriented development also has had consequences for the game's graphics: the game's characters were slightly less detailed and have somewhat lower polygon counts than those seen in, for example, Unreal II.

Also these changes are commonly thought to be result from the DeusEx 2's multiplatform development (source wikipedia):

    • Character development was simplified. (Most PC players are just thinking that they are more interestested from complex strategical thinking than console players.)
    • Combat was also more action-oriented than in the original Deus Ex. Weapons no longer did have a varying reticule to simulate weapon inexperience or inaccuracy while moving — a player simply needs to point and shoot. (Because of console's control pad is not suitable for samekind controlling method as PC mouse-keyboard).
    • Damage was no longer modular. Instead of having separate health for the player's head, torso, and appendages, the player did have a common pool of 130 hit points which varied based upon the selected difficulty. Similarly, enemies did sustain the same amount of damage regardless of where they were injured. (Again console's control pad vs. PC mouse-keyboard)
    • The inventory system was simplified. (Console's screen resolution + control pad  vs. PC's screen resolution + mouse-keyboard)

I am not saying that XBox 360 version is necesary making game bad, but some hardcore PC players are going to pessimistic mode automatically when they hear news like this. Common arguments:

    • TV's screen resolution, sharpness and color management (even HDTV) is less than typical PC monitor's resolution, sharpness and color management. (NTSC 720x480, PAL 768x576 and HDTV 1280x720/1920x1080.)
      • User interface need to be simplified and this will lead to simplified game
      • In PC version typical console user interface is using too much screen space
      • There is going to be less text, because it is harder to read text in console screen. This is leading to simplified gameplay.
    • Console have less available memory than PC.
      • Game areas are smaller.
      • Textures are smaller.
      • There are less character customization options.
    • Console's controls don't allow similar gameplay as PC's keyboard+mouse.
      • Combat is simplified - no modular damage.
      • Combat is more action oriented - less decisions - more 3 button action.
      • Inventory and other systems are simplified. For example Oblivion's save file dialog that doesn't allow you write save file name.
      • There is no chat commands.
      • There is going to be less shortcut key commands.
      • Console players doesn't necessary have keyboard that she can use for chatting and they also can't read chat text very well. This makes communication harder some cases and forces to communicate with voice chat, which is immersion killer for some players. (You are not going to understand my broken english.)
    • Console player's are not ready to patch they game and their hard drive space is more limited.
      • Patches are less frequent and bugs will stay longer time
      • Free and small feature updates are going to be less likely
      • There is going to be less client side customizations options.
    • Common misunderstanding (?): Console players are more casual
      • They might get some snack during raids or they are only playing during commercials.
      • They are not so dedicated to guild affairs - instead coming to prearranged meeting, they might be watching new TV show instead.

I also recommend reading article The Console and PC: Separated at Birth, Cross-Platform User Interface Development and Prey: PC versus XBox 360

Personally I dont see much of a problem with the fact that it was announced for 360. From E3 2005, when Gaute (game director) played it with a game pad we all knew it was going to come to a console.

Its quite likely that PC players wont be playing with console gamers. This game will not be compromised for console gameplay. The game is primarily being developed for PC, once the PC version is complete THEN they will work on the console version. No compromises, no worries. :)

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

Dumbed down, does that mean no more "1111133333111222444411111"  flashing across the screen.

Eh, I bought a refurbed dual-core from Dell for less than an xbox 360...  PC gaming isn't THAT expensive...

True that there will be more people, but haven't you ever played a console before? Remember how much easier it was to kick the crap out of monsters with a controler? Now what I fear is that the console crowd will have an advantage over the PC crowd since they have those handy little controlers while we are using archaic keyboards. Plus you have the stereotypical "younger" generation crowd that plays consoles that we will have to share the game with. I much prefer to keep servers seperate or keep the game only for PC's, but I don not fear the game being dumbed down, just because it is on the console too. I've played some excellent RPG's on consoles that are very complex or fun. Best thing to do is to go with this with an open mind and hope for the best.

I dont think that you can play this game with your new pc on high graphics... Ace of Conan will be released in Direct10 and there are
no Graphic cards which can handle this ;). So if you want to have a good graphic youd better buy a Xbox360, its cheaper and you have a phantastic graphic!

  • VhattiVhatti Member Posts: 52
I'm pretty sure the new 8 series fleet from NVidia are being developed to handle and run DX10 when it arrives. Also, give it some time after Vista initial hype dies down and they will update DX9.0 as well as release new drivers and software for newer cards to handle DX10. You won't have to buy a brand new graphics card post launch to run this game on high settings. Also, if you don't mind using a desktop, you can spend about $1000 and buy an awesome new computer through seperate parts (of course you would have to assemble it yourself to save labor cost) and destroy and XBOX 360 in computing power. Not only that, it's not just a console, it's a computer! You aren't limited to just playing AoC on it ;) Also in the future for newer games you're just replacing new parts instead of an entire piece of hardware. The console is NOT flexible like that. Say you hate AoC and you bought the XBOX360, well I hope you like XBOX games because it can't do anything else. The computer if you hate AoC can play every other MMO, FPS, RTS, etc. as well as other great Windows functions.

Perhaps, but you're also assuming that the 360 will be able to handle conan's high end directx 10 graphics without a problem.  Remember, the xbox 360 was released in November 2005 meaning that you're expecting 2 year old equipment to run it as well as cutting edge.  In a nod to the xbox though, the gpu has 48 shader units and runs at 500 mhz although apparently it only "can do 4x FSAA, z-buffering, and alpha blending with no appreciable performance penalty on the GPU." (per http://techreport.com/etc/2005q2/xbox360-gpu/index.x?pg=2)

    So we'll see ( ' :

There is nothing to stop us PC users from using a gamepad even if it did give the 360 players an advantage, personally i think melee combat should be pretty equal but when it comes to archery, seeing how its fps style aiming than a good old mouse will be alot more efficient and accurate than a gamepad.

I think it will be a great move and it will help push mmorpgs in the console dirction, which only opens it up to even more people and i think that can only be a good thing.

I'm sure Funcom know what they are doing, they know how much hype is following Age of Conan right know and there is no chance they would want to do anything to ruin a game that has so many followers and so much potential. It would be like ripping up a winning lottery ticket and throwing it away.

Its true.  The Devs have already stated (offical forums) that the xbox360 and the PC will be different.  It is unclear at the moment if the two platforms will play on the same servers but its doubtful.  Anyway, I dont think the 360 will change the development of the game since it will be released a year after the PC version (also stated on the offical forums).  Anywho, a mature game for mature players.

Glad there is one less kid (

well the only thing i  know is that  the game will pull through

in case some of you havent noticed  this si one of the only few games commign on in 07 that will be different from mmos now

when it comes out of the 360  i think it can only help the game gain more players

however the only thing i worry about is about little kids comming on the game and ruining it for everyone  by just by being little winny kids

but  who knows  mabey none of them will be on the server i will play on
